Been there, done that, learned my lesson! Scared the crap out of myself a few weeks ago by letting myself get 'bullied' into jumping. I was first out with another fairly inexperienced jumper, and when I opened the door we could see nothing but cloud. There were loads of shouts of GO and EXIT followed by someone physically trying to push me out, so i went.......... 9000ft of solid cloud later and I was reaching for the pilot chute just as I came out of the bottom, soaking wet and fortunately close to the DZ. I took it as a warning and promised myself I would listen to myself next time and just ride down with the plane no matter who was yelling at me! Hello! We have a fairly large number of relatively new jumpers around at our DZ and I was thinking of trying to run some sort of 'accuracy' competition for people with less than 100 jumps, blag some newbie related 'prizes' discount coupons for gear etc , take some pictures, write and article for Parachutist and generally become rich and famous in the process. But I haven't got the foggiest on how to run an accuracy competition! So to avoid some sort of horrible novice skydiver freeway pileup at the X i'd like some advice please! I was intending on placing a mark in the landing area and measuring distance to where they stop and totalling up three jumps to determine the winners. Would it be fairer to move it to an alternative clear spot than usual so the guys with higher jump numbers would have the same experience in landing at that spot than the lower jump number people? Or is that just going to end up with the local trees looking like some sort of Skydiver ornament laden Christmas decoration? How do I avoid a load of people all trying to land in the same spot at once? Some sort of stacked pull altitudes to try to stagger the landing pattern? Soooooo, how do you go about getting a helicopter / ballon / skyvan type deal to come to your boogie?? My GF is trying to put together a boogie and wants something to draw people apart from the usual 'beer and food' type stuff. Hey peeps, I just finished my 7 AFF jumps at ASC in Atlanta. But got sent back to work before I could do my first solo. Signed up on here 'cause i'm stuck in Africa for a month and need my skydiving addiction fed SOMEHOW!! :) That and i can at least read some safety articles and stuff while i'm here!
