  1. I do sell some GoPros but I really do not think that biased my opinion of the camera at all. HYPOXIC makes a lot more money off of the accessories I design for cameras. If I personally felt the AS15 was a good camera for skydiving I would be poised to make a lot of money off of them. For instance I almost had to production a cage for the AS15 which I scraped because I didn't believe in the camera. I also scrapped looking and reverse engineering the serial data coming out of the connector which most likely provides control and feedback i.e. a HYPEYE for the camera. I feel Sony eventually will have a good solution, I just don't think the AS15 is it. When they release better mounting solutions and pick up the bitrate I feel it is a nice little camera. Besides the blue issue and the bitrate issues, the bottom door cover ripped off right away. Also, I personally have never seem that pixelation on the GP2 or 3 when the frame changes drastically. I feel the as10/15 may be a great camera for other sports, just not ours. Others may feel differently, that's all. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays -Trunk Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  2. After the first day of using the camera, the bottom door of the AS15 broke off and the other half was rattling in side the chassis, I slid off the back to take out the broken piece and of course looked at the electronics. I never ever unscrewed the lens or touched any electronics. I do this sh*t for a living and my surface is esd safe. Yes, it is their warranty and their right to turn me away as a customer. And it is my right to feel and believe this is how every Sony AS15 acts. I haven't seen any decent fast skydiving footage from this camera. Even what they put out looks like crap: Sony AS15 Skydiving footage and you can see the pixelation in this video video when the frame changes quickly. Everyone make their own decision, its just not the camera for me and I rather use something else in my arsenal. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  3. I personally just been using 1080P 60fps for everything. If you will be debriefing with a slower computer/ media player 1080 30fps is decent. 2.7K is nice but can't review directly from the camera. You can change the FOV to medium or narrow so you don't have to me on top of the group so much. Basically, depending on your skill level, debriefing method, and sighting methods will dictate what mode you should be using. Try them all out and see what works best for yourself. 4. I'm starting a new thread since this is not a "problem with the hero3." It appears gopro released a new patch but they have not yet publicized it. The update is available via their website and enables the camera to connect to their updated ios and most likely android app. It also probably fixes a few bugs but have not seen the list as of yet. The exposure lock on stills is not an added setting and the I have not tested the battery bacpac issue that others have seen. [hacking alert - ignore if your not computer savvy or just don't care] If you are updating multiple cameras be sure not to have your camera connected when downloading. Unzip update.zip and then edit the settings.in file to set your SSID and password properly for each camera. It is a destructive update so you must recopy the file update.cmd each time. Or you can edit it and set the Options parameter back to 14.[/end hacking alert] Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  5. I think they just knew there wasn't a "fix" for the issues I was having so tried to weasel their way out of it. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  6. After a few months of this camera and Sony's inability to "fix" my camera I have to say this camera is a complete POS. It does not set the white balance correctly, it has way too low bit rate for skydiving, and the mounting options suck. Any thing with any fast change to it and your image just becomes a pixelized blob. I generally do like a Sony products but now I have a $270 paper weight. I do NOT suggest this camera to anyway doing anything fast in skydiving or any HS action sports where the whole frame is changing from the previous. I sent it in for repair and they said the lens has been touched from the inside. Trust me I know better than to unscrew a focused lens. This is complete BS and was going to give them the benefit of the doubt but now must say they really missed the bar on this one. (End of rant) Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  7. What card are you using? Sure I highly (only) recommend SanDisk class 10 microsd cards. This is very important for shooting at the higher modes. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  8. My rep said we should see an update next Friday. It's not clear yet what they will fix but I still am loving mine. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  9. Good to know and I will add it to the list. Every once in a while I get it locked into a weird mode where I need to remove the battery and then put it back in the camera. I had similar issues with the GoPro HD's when they first came out but it was then fixed in firmware at a future date. The biggest thing I found is to give it a few seconds from stopping it before you shut off the camera. Its a surefire way to create a corrupted file. turning the camera back on generally fixes it it's self but this utility works well if your file gets corrupted for another reason: HD Video Repair Utility I got a chance to mess around with the low light performance this weekend and was very impressed. Of course noise, but man it was nice for my application: Sunset/Twighlight Paragliding tow And some stupidness out of the balloon for testing the 1080P 60FPS: McConkey with Speedwing out of a HotAir Balloon Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  10. I personally use a clay like substance called sculpey. That instamorph looks cool but don't keep it in a hot car for any period of time. The sculpey molds well and then you just throw the piece into the oven, bake, sand and paint if you like. And you can just use double sided tape to secure it down. I generally make it so the mount bolts through the sculpey plate. I wouldn't use epoxy since god knows how many times you will change your setup on your helmet and its a PIA to take off. 11. I do enjoy the 2.7K mode especially since taking screen grabs seem perfect. The 720 is noticeable lower quality but the 120fps is sick. The number 1 complaint I hear is people saying their footage is playing back "choppy" due to their slow computer processor. First try a different player and if that doesn't work, you'll need to handbrake it. I find playing in sony vegas seems to always work fine. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  12. In this scenario, If lines from your deploying canopy do get wrapped around your camera you do have a high possibility of breaking your neck. In this case, you can be screwed and all practice may be null and void. Canopy collisions tend to be a little softer in which case you would clear your helmet and as in all malfunctions the access the situation and perform the necessary EP(s). A bridal would be a HS malfunction and depending on altitude see if its easy to clear, jettison, then asses the situation. There are no hard fast rules for these things, but good to think about what to do if they do happen. I've been caught in the dirt before with something as simple as a larks head knot on my toggle keepers, sh$t happens extremely quick during mals and if its your first one and you have an entanglement, you may just not have the awareness to save yourself. Yet another reason why we suggest people get their jump numbers up. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  13. I don't mind the tether on the contour, but I also practice my EP for getting entanglements with a camera. The nice thing about the contour tether is it un-clips. I've used this before in freefall when a camera got knocked off. Just unclipped the tether and stuffed the camera in my jumpsuit. Took about 5 seconds. No one ever says this cause it's too blunt, but you're doing something really really stupid if you ever get an entanglement with a top mount. Go back to basics, learn how to deploy stable or perish cause you shouldn't be jumping a camera anyway. Not saying an entanglement can't happen, just staying its really difficult. Wing suiters and Crw dogs have a lot higher chance to get lines or a bridle around the top front of a helmet. It's a real sh*tty day no matter if you have a camera or not if lines some how end up there. But if they do, Jettison the helmet, chop and fire the reserve. Hopefully you practiced that, and hopefully you have enough time and hopefully you are aware what you're RSL/skyhook would do if your are snagged. It's a camera, they are dangerous but at the top of your helmet I almost feel they are just as dangerous as someone wearing boots with those damn lace teeth or a gopro or altimeter mounted on their chest or mudflap. That is all... plain and simple, just don't die and think before you mount these damn things. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC

  15. Unfortunately there is not a wired one. It also appears the infrared options do not allow the camera to shoot continuously. There is a possibility to drive it via USB since it does support remote capturing. Can this be done at continuous shot? I don't believe so, but need to test. Is there a market for the work involved with implementing this? Possibly. We'll see, got a bunch on my plate right now Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  16. So after a few hours with support, one disconnection and and an endless loop for a bit, I'm sending my AS15 in for repair. Lets hope they fix it or when I get one back its shoots as well as all you are stating it does. I've been super unimpressed by it and hope its just a bad apple I got. 17. What you are seeing is the exposure setting in the plane and not re-calibrating when exiting. GoPro is aware of this and the only work around is to either shoot in 2fps or look out a window/door when you start recording. Kinda sucks, but sounds like they are at least on top of it and in the past are good at coming up with firmware updates. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  18. Back to your question about a 1/4X20 for the GoPro. Just buy one of these cheapies. They work pretty good! GoPro Tripod Mount Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC
  19. Release dates: Silver - In 2 weeks Black - Late November I'll answer the below as far as the black edition is concerned. 1 second burst / 12MP. However if you use continuous you can shoot at x frames per second until it reaches 30 frames. Good for landings or exits. (Photo ever 5seconds, 10, 30, 60 or manually triggered) One 12MPixel still while recording video in 1440p24 fps One 8MPixel still while recording video in 1080p30 fps One 8MPixel still while recording video in 720p60 fps "Better" - Still don't know but the sensor is more sensitive according to the sell sheets Just like the gopro 2 you can change the FOV. However, on the black you have a nice piece of glass that allows you to do this with less distortion (according to the sell sheets) Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC

  22. You are looking at the screen. Some have an electronic viewfinder as an accessory. Some, like the Sony NEX7 are really nice cameras. Sony is releasing a full sensor one shortly here. The rest are APS-C sized sensors. Trunk's Blog HYPOXIC's Instagram Like HYPOXIC

  25. Good call guys on what is truer footage vs. what appears better on the computer or TV for debriefing. On a side to side comparison most people were agreeing with the gopro at the DZ but perhaps my computer is a bit too cold and we are in a pretty brown region ;-). Here is a screen grab of the Eloy White otter. Does it appear really blue to anyone else? I haven't color matched this laptop but this seems too much to me.
