  1. I posted this in another thread already, but all my last weekend clips are with CX7, two freeflying http://youtube.com/user/kaidokert Yes, there is shaking in sitfly, none noticeable in tandem shot. I can upload the original HQ files on demand.
  2. Just uploaded my weekend videos ( first ever, by the way ;) ) Two freefly clips and one tandem, shaking is there in freefly attempts. http://www.youtube.com/user/kaidokert All done with sidemounted CX7 on padded l-bracket. Blurshot of the setup attached. I wouldnt call the camera bad as of yet, the only configuration bit i ever touched in the menus is set focus to manual, didnt try stabilization settings or anything.
  3. You are not alone. I've seen the shake on a top mounted CX7 with the OIS turned on. It only had a problem in a sit fly though. Head down and belly were good. Once I get a Cookie box, I'll be trying to sit with the OIS turned off. As far as other ideas, I'm at a loss. Im seeing the same thing. I have CX sidemounted on Tonfly CC1 with padded L-bracket ( still waiting for Cookie box ) and in sitfly it had some vibration going on occassionally. My first weekend ever jumping camera so i wasnt sure if its me or the equipment. A test tandem film was fine, and then other sitflys were more or less fine too.
  4. Just for quick viewing, latest nightly builds of VLC player and MPlayer recognize MTS and M2TS files and play them. Mencoder can recompress them to a more edible MP4 or whatever easily too ( i tried faster remuxing as well, but this wont help with older players as they dont have all the H264 codec extensions supported like interlaced coding )
  5. I loved it for shooting snowboarding. So i have to figure a way for reattachment.
  6. Just received my Tonfly helmet with L-bracket for CX7 prefitted ( waiting for Cookie box to arrive still ) .. excellent fit and everything, almost ready to jump this weekend .. apart from one silly problem : how did you guys non-desctructively remove the wrist strap ?? I cant get the rear end to open. Do i have to unscrew the right bottom part of the cover ??
  7. I was there too, trying the helmets on, and thats where i got a tip about CX6/7 in the first place, but didnt see any Tonfly camera boxen there. Just helmets. And now they wrote in the email that they dont have a box for it. I think i'll go with Cookie in the end. Any opinion on the quick mounts on Cookie vs Tonfly ?
  8. replying to myself: just got an e-mail response from Tonfly, they say: "we have not any cover available with the camcorder you mentioned." They recommended either making my own mount or just getting an L-bracket from them. I could do that, but still would prefer to have camera covered.
  9. Didnt see CX6 box on Tonfly site, nor in their resellers stores. i suppose i will e-mail and ask. Who are the others ?
  10. Cookie Composites has a box ready for that camera for their MXV helmet. Im torn between ordering a Tonfly Fuego Converter Pro and figuring out my own camera box, or ordering a Cookie MXV along with their camera box and other bits. I had the opportunity to try Tonfly on and liked their Converter system, but Cookie Flatlock seems to be similar in functionality so im not sure now. Anyone seen other camera boxes for CX7/CX6EK yet ?
  11. European Sony consumer site has nice feature-wise comparison of all the current models they make, but it only lists CX6EK. North america has only CX7 listed. Comparing these webpages side-by side they indeed seem almost identical. I'm planning on getting the CX6 as well.
  12. Its got a removable microdrive card, but its not the drive that died on mine. Focus system flaked out, camera still works but it wont focus. I suspect its completely unrelated to the fact that i jumped with it from 4km a couple of times, as it died weeks later. To me it just means stay away of that brand, if you want rugged.
  13. Thats the general idea. Look at the dvinfo.net threads on this. Its apparently using a protocol similar to LANC, but the jack is different and there is apparently some extra circuitry to interface. At least start/stop and recording indicator should be doable. On the microdrive, i learned it the hard way. I initially _thought_ its solid state flash card, not doing proper research, as i had a quick opportunity to get the camera secondhand for cheap. These things never work out.
  14. I was recently recommended CX6EK ( which i think is the european version of CX7 ) and started researching this thing, read through most of the threads here. It looks like there might be a LANC kind of port on this thing after all, see here: http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=100933&page=2 http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=110755 I'll definitely keep an eye on this. A small backgrounder story: I wanted to start jumping camera with a solidstate small thingy last year, and bought a relatively cheap and compact JVC GZ-MC100. Very nice slim form factor for side-mount, made an L-bracket and mounted it on a random cheap helmet with DIY gear. The thing didnt work at all for jumping. Every time i got out of the plane, it stopped recording like 5 seconds into the jump and when i landed it invariably had some "recording error" prompt on LCD. Tried lots of fixes, condom, taping it up etc, still no luck. IOW Crap. A few weeks later the thing died completely when i was travelling and trying to do some sightseeing shoots, the focus stopped working. Dunno what i will do with it, its good for a doorstop right now. So i was thinking i need to still go with miniDV, but a guy in Empuriabrava last week recommended this Sony which looks promising. I'll probably pair it with Tonfly Fuego Converter Pro which has both side and top mount, should have enough flexibility for future. I got a chance to try it on and to me it felt like good helmet. As to the LANC, im a electronics hobbyist myself as well, so i guess with a little hacking i ought to get it to work, especially if it already works with Sony HCC sports pack.
