The problem with rules like this i.e. differing rules for differing people is that accidents are likley to happen from it. I work moving large heavy machinery around in the dark in ports etc (mostly containers). We have a "one rule for all" policy so that if I expect all big igs to turn right and reverse under the crain I am directing then they all do that. Some guy just shunt round the yard and wanted to go the wrong way round the one way system as it was quicker. This was just going to lead to problems as I would then be dealing with vehicles from 2 directions. It stayed as it was...safe. ------ Two of the three voices in my head agree with you. Now I have NO experiance of teaching people to skydive and NO experiance (other than 1 tandom) of skydiving per se but this comes from my experiance of teaching people to drive trucks (stay with me folks). The hardest thing in a truck to do is reverse. With artics some people get and and some just "dont get it". What ever you try to do for some reason they are just not wired up to reverse these things. The best advice we do in a situation like this is give them to someone else who doesnt do it a different way but that change makes peoples brains register something so they then can do it. Maybe leave the DZ you are at for 1 or 2 jumps. Go to another (with log book) and ask just not try to pass AFF level just to work on what you are getting wrong. No pressure, different instructors. Maybe they will phrase something differently so you will just click and get it. ------ Two of the three voices in my head agree with you. Well I disagree. Its not a job until its finished .. as in job done. I am assuming that the paraglider has a way to cut away the main parachute and I know they have a reserve so why not use it? If you see yourself going over 20,000ft and feeling faint do they not think gee.....better chop this and land the reserve. ------ Two of the three voices in my head agree with you. Ok so I was bored and surfing the net. Stumbled over to apex base and saw they were advertising a round canopy for water jumps. Can someone (you guys) explain to someone stupid (me) why would you prefer a round over a normal canopy in the water? I just can't think of any reasons why. Cant be much safer as there is still fabric above your head. Ok so you could get away with a higher decent speed on impact but a reason for a whole different canopy? ------ Two of the three voices in my head agree with you.
