  1. My IR Thermometer may not accurately read the temperature of my burning house, but that failure doesn't change the reality that my house is burning and getting worse as time goes on.
  2. Sounds like the FAA would want to know if you intended on remaining as PIC all the way to the desert floor. If so that would be totally copacetic as long as your next of kin files the right accident reports.
  3. On average jumpers will do nothing, just like the general population. You may have some individuals boycott travel or take other actions, but it will be the minority and while those individual actions may illustrate individuals' characters it will be gnat on a windshield in terms of swaying state policy, same goes for drop zones and skydiving manufacturers too. Even if we could be impactful, you are assuming that the powers that be have enough intelligence to recognize the impact. I am 16 years in, and skydiving has cleaned up a lot from the stories I used to hear about the good old days, but even in my more recent time I still have seen plenty of evidence that skydivers will in general tolerate a lot of "bad behavior" if the jumps are fun, the lift tickets are cheap, or the creep can really shred.
  4. Good, religion shouldn't be in public school beyond teaching theology light, that different people have different imaginary friends and that is ok. There isn't really much to teach there because kids inherently understand that, it is the influence of their parents and communities that fuck up that virtue. Communities and families should teach religion at home and at church, temple, satanic den, etc. All of the above are already subsidized heavily by taxpayers, so it isn't like we aren't already give a massive handout to religions already. Is the issue that Priests are too busy scamming money and diddling, so they need to outsource teaching basic bible study to public school teachers?
  5. That looks like way too late of a deployment altitude, it almost make you wonder why they bothered with the use of the BRS at all. I really wonder if that was the intended altitude, or if it was supposed to deploy higher but was impacted by the flat spin. Non pilot, non stunt coordinator, but why wouldn't you set the deployment of the BRS at a more reasonable hard deck? Human hard deck is say 3.5k, giving time to clear the plane, and then the BRS hard deck is 2k.
  6. For a second there I thought I clicked the wrong link and was in Speakers Corner! Brilliant back and forth about Engineering and Dentistry! Don't know if I needed to capitalize the name of both of those fields, but I am sure some nitpicker will come along soon to correct me if needed.
  7. The bonehead aero may fit the bill? I seem to remember it having a lower profit chin than my Kiss, and others G3's.
  8. I am confused. Why would the USPA have any awareness of the medications that a Class 3 medical holder is taking, allowed prohibited or otherwise? When you say Compliance Group, you are referring to a USPA governance group, and not an FAA medical review board? Forget the USPA, I am curious how did the FAA get on the scent of a prohibited medication in the first place that was actually not prescribed or used? If you didn't take it you wouldn't disclose it during your medical, and if it wasn't prescribed it shouldn't have been in your medical records.
  9. Sorry, your request for insurrection has been denied. You only purchased the non-profit volunteer membership organization revolution package. You will need to upgrade to the Federal Aviation Administration package to change the cloud regulations through an uprising.
  10. The hits will just keep coming, as long as certain accounts remain active.
  11. Yeah, that definitely falls under the general observation that people are irresponsible idiots or jerks, or D all of the above. I have seen videos of unprepared/unexperienced shooter have an "accidental discharge" on these larger caliber revolvers after their first intended shot because there were multiple rounds in the cylinder, and they weren't capable of handling the recoil. They almost shot their own heads off! It is fun to watch an experienced shooter fire the revolver, but I only load one chamber for a first time shooter, and it shoots the "smaller" caliber 45 Colt so you can have someone work their way up.
  12. You mean 460 S&W? It is way more fun to watch OTHER people shoot my S&W 460 revolver if it is loaded with a 460 S&W magnum. I wouldn't enjoy hiking around with it! Thankfully I live in black bear territory and not being a complete idiot is your best defense against black bears.
  13. Did I state that traffic laws or warrants shouldn't be enforced, or that he didn't contribute to the circumstances that led to his death? I will go back and check! Traffic laws are already constantly under enforced at the individual discretion law enforcement, and the main driver of improved road safety over the past few decades is because of vehicle technology, not more dedicated enforcement of traffic laws. I won't argue that we shouldn't be stopping reckless drivers, or impaired drivers, but what percentage of stops fit into that category versus having your number come up when you are driving 10 over like 95% of the other people on the same highway as you. I didn't know any of the background that you are stating, and I may not have had him over for dinner, but it doesn't change my opinion that it tragic that there is a person dead, and there is a cop that will be haunted by this for the rest of her life. I am speaking out of ignorance, but I just think we can probably figure out a better way to skin this cat.
  14. I really struggle with getting to a solid position on this. She made the direct error that resulted in the death of this young man, but there are a handful of things the stacked the deck and made a terrible outcome more likely in the first place. The two years pale in comparison to the regret and anguish she will live for the rest of her life, and no amount of years in prison would make up for the loss of this family's son. I think the bigger sentence should be handed down to our laws and policing institutions which encourage traffic stops and other police interactions over minor infractions, with error prone undertrained cops that are following play book that is practically designed for escalation. I would trade the 2 years for a re-write of policies that would have avoided him being stopped in the first place, or that would have resulted in the cops letting him drive away because they were trained that it is safer for everyone involved.
  15. A $100 million dollar contract with Trump... that sounds highly legit, totally going to get full payment, and unlikely to end in lawsuits and skullduggery. Is the My-pillow guy planning on jumping in on this too?
  16. People don't want to think for themselves, the ability for reasoning is at an all time low, and it is a bi-partisan phenomenon. My wife was outraged that Joe Rogan was an anti-vaxer, because that was what she gleaned from the 2 minute news blast. I told her that I didn't listen to those exact episodes but I was fairly certain that he wasn't personally making those claims, and that people were probably outraged because he gave facetime to some controversial guests. Ultimately that was my take on the recent events. Besides if you get your medical advice from his podcast you are a fucking idiot, and you are probably making the supplement companies rich! If you don't die of covid you will probably just OD on Alpha Brain and Athletic Greens instead. People are outraged because of 1 minute sound bites from the nightly news. I see the same phenomenon with issues that make conservative's blood boil. People are mad as hell, but 9 times out of 10 they only know that their tribe is mad, and they haven't spent any time reasoning out their position themselves.
  17. Cool idea! Thanks Found this first error, but maybe it is just a difference in expected terminology. On the side spin with drogue side up. First attempt side spin recovery, correct. Next, unable to recover from side spin. Deploy drogue aggressively was selected as the next EP step, which was marked red as incorrect. It looks like it wanted deploy drogue, but in my opinion if you find yourself drogue side up and still in a heavy side spin, you really want to huck that mother so it clears you and your student.

    covid-19

Heard recently about an acquaintance whose unvaccinated 39 year old brother died from his Covid infection. He was married with kids. Apparently he was in overall good health. What a stupid selfish way to prove a point.

    covid-19

Agreed. He was fully vaccinated and boosted. He has been a big proponent for vaccines and personal responsibility in general during this pandemic. Real personal responsibility, not the new age version that translates to "fuck you, I am going to get mine".

Great conversation you folks are having here. I appreciate how much this titillating back and forth is adding to the discussion. It was only a few months ago that I thought that contributions from our resident immunologist Westerly couldn't be toped, but here you all go raising the bar.
  22. That would be a plus for me. Now that I have a kid it would be great to get in two hobbies with one hall pass.

  24. In rural areas they could stick them right on the utility poles. Make a curb cut and pave a little spot next to the pole.
