  1. The time you spend fumbling with ill fitting gloves during a malfunction, might be your last before making a huge divot.

I had trouble getting a pair of goofy gloves into my toggles once. Never again, it was a real wakeup call! Thank god I didn't have to do E.P. wearing those stupid things!!! [:/]

It would seem that today with AFF and tunnels and such, that competence would come sooner rather than later.

My AFF instructor mentioned something once when we were in the tunnel. It impressed him how well we stayed relative with our numbers of jumps, in comparison to when he started jumping.

I think we may be competent quicker, but the records keep getting larger and more awesome, so do the people setting them.

Does a jumper have more or less in air ability at 30 jumps than his counterpart in the 70's, I don't know. But we are a little further behind the curve when the next record jump is going to be some crazy 400 way.

I don't think it matters. I try to earn respect as I go, if you want to jump with me awesome, if not there are certainly no hard feelings. I am just having a good time, the rest will fall into place.

I hope you're not painting all of us "newer, less-experienced jumpers" with the same brush based on a single poster's opinion.

    Here here. :D

Seems they take advantage of the milder winter days, but they are heartier people than I!!

I assumed that you would end up with frost bite by the time you got down. I guess the exposure time isn't long enough.

Truely what is the difference between tampering with my reserve vs tampering with my ability to decide for myself if sharing airspace with someone is drastically increasing my risks of injury or death due to their mis-calculated risks?

One is bad judgment, one is premeditated attempted murder!!!

No one is saying this is a good idea, but it is far from tampering with some ones reserve.

No laws are going to change the fact that you may be getting on a load with people that might kill you. It might be some one with 300 jumps, or it might be the guy who just got done with AFF and doesn't understand danger tracking up line of flight despite being instructed not to.

  7. That seems a little pricey, but it is purpose built. A dog tracking system will run you around three hundred dollars on ebay, that is a receiver, and a collar that I am sure can be sewn into a dbag.

The big difference that I see is that it would be on all the time, and you would have to keep changing out batteries. (9 volts, get a set of rechargeables for rotating into the system).

The range on the dog systems is advertised at around 7 miles, though I doubt you get that with elevation changes in terrain, and trees and stuff.

So if someone cuts my lines on my reserve, packs me a line over on my main and I jump it , it would follow under this catagory as well?

Now your just being facetious. :P

  9. The thread about colors, and all the talk about easy to locate pilot chutes in the event of bag lock made me think...

Why isn't there a system on the market that uses radio signals to locate cutaway mains?

I used to build model rockets when I was younger and there was a system that you could purchase for your rockets. It was pretty simple... transmitter that beeped over a radio signal, and a directional receiver with head phones. Walk toward to beeping, if it gets stronger your getting hot, if it gets weaker you are getting cold.

The unit itself was just slightly larger than a AA battery, and I think it could easily be sewn to the bottom of a d-bag.

    Any thoughts?

  10. Please don't take this the wrong way because I only intend on being constructive, but have you considered having some one look at your website for a redesign to make it easier to view and navigate. A solid background and a better layout would do wonders for it.

Otherwise I am looking forward to a product that will be safer to use, and more in the range of a non pro jumper!!! :D

I'm going to guess it IS illegal, based on perpetating fraud against the business that provided the lift service. You can't jump anywhere without telling the DZ how much experience you have. They lied to them while entering into a business arrangement with a faked logbook, and no doubt lying on the waiver.

That is a civil issue, not a criminal one.

I don't agree with making laws to fix an almost non existent problem. If it was a big issue we would be reading about it frequently in the incidents forum wouldn't we?

    Hi

My friend is selling throws. You know what they are - those things you throw over your bed or a couch. I only have the one attachment sample to show you. I'm ordering two, one for my bed and one for my sofa. :)
    Great Christmas Gifts!

Thanks, I am so glad I opened that in class. :D

This thread has some serious comedic value.

So do you have the PISA kind, or the sting your arse kind. ;) Used or new. I am of course looking for the deal of the life time, just like every one else.

Richard, when can I arrange shipping for that canopy. :P

  14. How do I know?

Ask the suit maker what they think, or at least asking in the freefly forum.

Even better, why don't you just wait until you have your license and figure out what you want to do. It doesn't seem like the best idea to spend 300 bucks on a suit without even having a license, or any jumps in a specific discipline.

  15. Did you call them and ask what they recommend?

Tony suits offers suplex, 4ply, and polycotton.

Polycotton was the heaviest fabric so it is the slowest, but on their fabric discription page they mention that it is less durable.

Suplex was the fastest of the the three. And 4ply was some sort of suplex that was more durable than polycotton, and heavier than suplex.

  16. Dave that is awesome! If you could take some stills for me I would be happy to pay your slot.

I was also planning on doing my B license in air exam with Jess if we can work it out. :)

I know you are on safe gear but I am sure you will want to down size pretty soon yourself.

The fact that you have a high performance canopy sitting in the closet, and you chomping at the bit to get at it with only 13 jumps; and that you are questioning some ones conservative canopy progression really makes me scratch my head. [:/]

You say you are going to defer to your instructors about your canopy flight and sizing, but have you even been listening to them up to this point??? B|

I am far far far from a safety expert, and maybe I am just interpreting what your posting the wrong way, but take it slow and be careful. We both have thousands of jumps to go if we don't cut corners.

Well it is 190, and I don't plan on using it until I have downsized through the rental gear. Also I wouldn't use it until my instructors tell me I am ready. Plus like you said I can switch it out with an easier canopy for a while if need be. Thanks for the concern, I appreciate it.

If I read your profile correctly you weigh around 220 pounds right? So figure 235-240 with gear. So that puts your around 1.29 wing loading on a fully elliptical (that they nicknamed the spinletto) canopy.

So how many jumps do you actually intend on doing in this rental gear downsize progression? :P

Oh, wait...no they don't...I suppose if you can afford a new rig, then you can afford to hire a packer.

Dang...I need to go find myself a Daddy Warbucks!!

I don't mean to be rude, but this is your second post that seems like you have a chip on your shoulder against people that have financial means? What gives? [:/]

I am sure every one that went through AFF instead of static line progression, or bought a new ZP canopy instead of some clapped out F111 job, is a spoon fed spoiled brat!!!! :o:|

Just because you chose one road and they are able to take another doesn't make ones experience better or worse!!! Just different.
