Laptop for video editing windows I7 vs Macbook air I5
sdls replied to bodypilot90's topic in Photography and Video
It seems that you may have an issue that your Vegas is using CPU for (en/de)coding of video. That task should be performed on GPU. Normally on laptops there should be setting that which apps are using CPU (integrated) for calculating things and which are using GPU (video card processor). You could also try to disable integrated graphics processor from device manager and then try how it goes. -
Nice and funny video, but I think it was pre-recorded (well, recording afterwards is not possible either :) ).

Thanks! I think we here in Finland are lucky to have unlimited/uncapped/fast LTE/4G networks with fixed fee (~20€/mo).

Compair 8 airplane. Does someone knows...
sdls replied to PauloMSilva's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
There was one in Finland. Please check out the report of the accident (report is in Finnish but summary in English starting on page 9) resulting 8 dead. -
From what I heard is that Sandisk quality is poor. They advertise their cards as "Class 10" speed, but there are few sectors on cards that do not perform that well (and that has caused GP3Black lockouts).

CX410 is OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) camera, so not (most probably) suitable for skydiving.

AFAIK FAI rules say you cannot use GoPro in competition:

Thanks, now it works. I tried this very briefly, looks great! Special thanks for doing this as an open source, I believe this will benefit whole community.

Hi! https://beta.skyproc.com/ says 'invalid captcha' when I tried to sign up. And no, there is no visible captcha. Tried with Chrome, Safari and Firefox.

They've done it already: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=nKOBZSPKvTE#t=180s

Using 2 go-pros for video/stills and charging tandems $120
sdls replied to Mr_Polite's topic in Photography and Video
I didn't understand, what is the problem with that? -
Did someone see video stream and skydivers at the same time and can confirm that it was live?

google io - skydivers jump into SF with google glass
sdls replied to hermosabeach's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I also though first it's spectacular but it seems it's not really live feed from the air. It was prerecorded. -
Ok, google did it? Project Glass: Skydiving Demo at Google I/O 2012. Even though I don't think it was done really live at I/O 2012 today (as they are writing in Engadget) that looks interesting concept.

I'm very satisfied on N3, I've used it now for ~400 jumps and it has never failed. It shows always when you'll be at target altitude. It assumes you are going to the same altitude as you were on your last jump. I'd like that I could manually change target altitude as I almost every time jump from different altitude. Works great with Paralog on Mac too.

Trimming/splitting 60/120fps videos on a Mac
sdls replied to yuri_base's topic in Photography and Video
Have you tried MPEG Streamclip already? http://www.squared5.com/ Simple manual for trimming: 1. Open Streamclip 2. Drag your video file to program window 3. Mark start and end points with keyboard (I=in/start, O=out/end) 4. File -> Save file 5. Done -
NTFS-3G will enable NTFS reading and writing on Mac OSX. I have used it with no problems for a while. FAT32 is not reliable file system. I do not recommend using it.

Hi, install ntfs-3g to your mac, it should do the job. More info: http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/

Hi, I have used for a long time Drobo products (not on video archiving specially, but just general file storage). Few pros about the product: - Possibility to use normal hard disks (user changeable) - Possibility to use different sized disks - Hotswapping of drives - Fast as h*** For example, I could have Drobo FS with 4x1TB HDs and 1x2TB HD, and when it gets full, I simply change two of 1TB HDs to two 3TB HDs. If one of the disks fail, I just take that one off and put new (same size or larger) in and here we go again! You could also easily make rsync synchronization between two Drobos (offsite -backup) (http://www.drobo.com/droboapps/apps-for-drobofs.php, Rsync).

Let's not blame GoPro only, rolling shutter is problem on every CMOS sensor.
