  1. This year, it's not about trying to win the Cup.......it's about trying to pry it away from the Wings. Ain't gonna happen. Don Don, my friend, your wisdom, insight and sagaciousness is always refreshing. aloha.
  2. and it's HAPPY 1234567890 !! It's an EPOCH party!! aloha.
  3. It's good to hear that it worked for them to fix it. Though asking most alcoholics to just quit drinking is like asking them to just speak Russian. I personally haven't heard of any other self help groups with a success rate even close to AA but am interested to find any. At the risk of violating any of the 12 AA traditions I'm going to bow out now but thanks to all for your input. My personal program of recovery is working for me so I'm probably going to stick with it. Some day I wish I'll know the right words to share with the still suffering alcoholic that's completely turned off by the spiritual side of AA. I've just heard too many folks say that rehab, pyschiatrists, priests never worked in the long run and I don't know of many alternatives. If something works to keep them alive and to prevent them from hurting or killing others then I'm all behind it. My heart goes out to the OP's uncle. 'BEER' PM me if you'd like. aloha.
  4. And that is encouraging to hear. So I'll pose the question again. How? What successful alternatives are out there? I'm truly interested to learn. What can we recommend as a possible solution for Derek's uncle? aloha.
  5. Fair enough. I'm sure there's many others that feel the same as you. Are you an athiest? What alternative then would you recommend for the OP's uncle? aloha.
  6. Wendy's answer is dead on. I believe there's a chapter (4?) in the Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book directly addressing Athiests and Agnostics. For many their "higher power" is the AA group fellowship and it's experience, strength and hope in and of itself. AA is NOT a religious program, it's a spiritual one. Religious people are afraid of dying and going to hell. Spiritual people have already lived there. aloha.
  7. That's a real thing? I thought they were kinda joking. Must only be big in the pornstar and gay communities? Yup. Been around for awhile. I read somewhere (on the internet) that Pamela Anderson get's it done frequently. So it must be true. After pic attached. aloha.
  8. If I was younger. The entire staff at Raisins in South Park, Colo. aloha.
  9. Don't get me started. I've been using the attached doodle with my signature in jumpers logbooks since way back in 1994. Look familiar? aloha.
  10. It would be fun to have Clay ba-aa-aa-aa-ck. aloha.
  11. Sorry d123. Although debate is healthy, I guess we have diverted from your OP. aloha.
  12. Then that would mean I'm rich!!! Because I currently don't have anywhere to spend my (condom) currency. aloha.
  13. ...and the grandfather clause was a beautiful thing. I could still get my 15 round RUGER P95 a year later in 1995.
  14. The only other difference I would add is the 'overhang' of the top skin along the leading edge. Giving an accuracy canopy the ability to sink "straight down" in zero ground wind condition or even down wind while still maintaining it's full inflation. Not unlike a ROUND aloha.
  15. I guess we'll agree to disagree. Sure, with enough wind, a velocity will sink straight down. But aerodynamically, it's completely different from what an accuracy canopy is doing. An accuracy canopy can sink in zero wind. Even downwind. A Velocity 238 wouldn't be able to sink like a Classic 238. An Icarus 330 will not sink like a Parafoil. It's not about size, it's about canopy design. davelepka- pilotdave has described the reasoning for my response to your original statement that acc. canopies are designed to fly like every other canopy and the only difference is they are huge. While I have not flown an accuracy canopy, I have observed many fly and land. I've also guided and landed thousands of students under FC Manta 288s as a radio operator. My personal observations indicate to me significant flight characteristic differences between the two. Regardless of size similarity. Viewing the attached picture of an accuracy canopy, I see pretty apparent design differences from a Manta as well. Just my .02 cheers aloha.
  16. Not sure if you are replying to me but my comment was towards davelepka's post. aloha.
  17. It's a bit unsettling for me to read that statement from a jumper with your posted experience level. aloha.
  18. In response to #3. Because the internet masses are still reeling from the Bonsai Kittens? For those who were appalled by the video and "want to help", how did that web address referenced in the video work out for you? Come on people. Aren't there more important things to focus on right now.....like UFOs at the Obama Inauguration? aloha.
  19. I believe it's called SPAWAR today. aloha.
