I don't see me on a x-brace anytime soon. But this thread has shed some light on the performance parameters for me. Thanx to all that replied. I'll stick to the ol' 245 for awhile and cherish those soft slow landings awhile In the meantime, at my lvl I'll stick to workin on consistant accurate landings, and my fall rate. I'm tall and tend to "float". Just trying to glean all the info I can on all types of canopys before I really set to buy. Thx again I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

Near as I can tell...you are right! Billvon is indeed a duck. perhaps I will get to jump,er, um, FLY with him someday... I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

Ok! Here goes! 42 yr. old carpenter(should'a finished college!). 1)Ramen noodles are much better these days. 2)You never go wrong with mac-n-cheese. 3)Hot dogs (splurge on coney sauce here). 4)Treat self to a whole pound of bacon! 5) 30 dollar electric bill,100 dollars jumping, hmmmm(keep candles around 4 a week). 6)Keep the ol' beater hoopty truck. 7)dog gets Pedigree instead of Alpo...$20 a mo. 8)GF split on my lvl6...savin ALOT there! 9)"surplus"? gear? 10) "Light" beer. (I know, I know,) Spank me... 11)Go easy on the "light" beer. It may lead to a GF that will cost more than jumping next summer! Things to do: Learn to pack. Skydiving all next summer: PRICELESS! I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

Thanks, makes sense. I am an avid rc modeller so I understand wing loading, span and chord etc. However, these are rigid wings compared to canopies, which flex . I love doing high spirals and have jumped a 245 and a 260. I noticed a significant difference watching the lower skin and end cells flexing doing rear riser spiral. I would think this is affected by loading, span, and chord, and total area. I wonder, does crossbracing have any effect here or not since spiralling is essentialling stalling half the canopy? Probably won't have any bearing on what I end up buying...but evidently it will not make any difference in the flight parameter of doing spirals either. Tell me what you think....I like the idea of flatter and more lift, that just makes since.(sense)* Thanks again for the info guys. I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

Thank you! I see this now, looking at different photo angles. Thanks for the explanation! Quite helpful. I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

Looking at canopies since snow is ready to fly here. Just exactly what is the difference between conventional and a cross braced canopy? Even manufacturers sites are vague on this. However they are heavily referenced to in the forums. Is a cross braced canopy stronger for doing spirals and not necessarily faster if the same size or wing loading? I'm sure someone can enlighten me here. Thank you.

Saddam had the luxury of helicopters with spraybars,to decimate a whole town. He didn't build ovens to dispose the bodies. Not comparing apples to oranges. He did'nt bring them in on trains. YOU STUPID PEOPLE! WASN'T YOUR TOWN! IF! it was 3000 jews or prostant christians the war wouldn't have taken 10---TEN--years to start. Who the hell are Kurds? Who cares? GENOCIDE WAS'NT ENOUGH OF A REASON? Screw you,you deserve to pay 10cents a gallon more. Hmmm, so many have such short memories. They supported(Saddams regime)Terrorists in at least 9 countries. Guess it's ok if it is'nt your church. Bet yer ass if he sprayed a town of ...FINE CHRISTIANS or JEWS, the occupation in Iraq would be all but over by now. But thats all BS,thanks to the democratic process, and the hairy armpitted gals from France, who lost a couple bucks. (freethefly not a personal attack here)just my 2 cents. Blues... Ask a vegan to remove all the plastic from their car, then take them hunting and teach them survival. they WILL cut a tree, they WILL eat meat or fish. They WILL smoke a puff when they get a sprain. It's sad that people don't teach that it's a med. as many other plants...If it's not their children, it helps or hurts as they are taught to see. It obviously hasn't created the axe murderers we were told in the 60's. They already existed. The illicit trade is more dangerous than the product. To those that deal, and those who persecute. I don't think that anyone(edjucated)can say it has killed more people than the nature of the trade its'self' Remove the plastic from your life...Then tell me about the "NEW" hemp canopy....just can it , shut the hell up an go burn 1. MAN! I'm a new skydiver. And I'm really pissed at my timing! I love skydiving! I like beautiful, slow, soft, professional landings. IF you are someone likely to hook turn into the ground....PLEASE! Take up my old hobby of speed inverted rappelling!| NO DITTER there dude. Play the stretch of your line to touch and kiss a rock headfirst, from 200'ft. I've done it many times. IF YOU WANT to swoop, they (THE PRO'S) use A POND! I should also warn you of line "wave". The resistance of your accelleration causes a "wave" ahead of your braking hand that will catch up and "SNAP" your hand off of the rope.WAY COOL WITH NO BELAY! Been there done that and survived.(with rope burn). Man,I guess my age has tempered me(I hope)I still am enjoying every minute. NOT that I would'nt want to learn to swoop. But there are alot of dead idiot rappellers that were my friends also. I really appreciate the cool feedback on this site,But i also hate that all the flamers are here to do just that,FLAME. Speculation on incidents....is just that, Thanks mods, you guys do pretty good. Anyhow, the main of my post is QUIT TURNING INTO THE GROUND! You are the FRIGGEN IDIOTS HURTING MY NEWFOUND LOVE OF SKYDIVING! Can I get an amen? Blue skies Wanna go fast close to the ground?>gokarts kick ass! edited to say,yep,20 jumps sooooo...I expect to carry my balls with me for many more...and die peacefully in my sleep, hopefully on a plane full of friends that will push my body out and deploy for me. IS there a waiver for that? I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

I got a good tip. I was told(and have) put a big pillow under your chest, pelvis to the floor, with feet propped up on the couch, Belly down of course. Then place a tennis ball in the small of your back and do practice rip cord pulls. If you roll to 1 side or roll a hip the ball rolls off, thus no touch. Or try a golf ball, being smaller puts hand exactly there,BUT, tennis ball rolls off easier, thus better for good form. The object of course is to stay in form to a visual (minds eye) horizon. I think it helped a little. I am much more aware of my cg and stability at pull time. Good luck and Blue skies

Had a really sore one from a slight roll at deployment-see post ,bad 13th jump). I put ice on for the rest of the afternoon and slept on my right side for a couple days. During that time a really hot! shower massage kept things limber. But are'nt the colors really cool!? Just rest it best you can so you don't aggravate it. I'm certainly no DR. Hope you feel better soon, AND DO! show off the bruise! Blue skies P.S. I also wrote "I will be stable at pull" 100 times in my logbook might lay off the upper body exercise, rest it. I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

A ferret can squeeze his whole body through anything its head will fit through. Which is just a little smaller than a gerbil. Your gerbil problem will be eradicated! The ferret , however, oooo, good luck with that! I'm fine...crazy people don't know they're crazy...No,Really!

Nothin against SaaB. But parts and maintenance will hurt you pocketbook. I like Volvos and mercedez also. The best mileage in the world won't put brake pads on em for 14 dollars though. and if your in the states...those 14 dollar brake pads become 140 dollars real easy. I've changed many of them. Not knocken em,just a little frugal. Get what makes you happy if you can afford it! I've changed alot of brakes and other misc. for many friends. (from a family of over the road proffessional drivers). Get a bright red one and drive with the top down I'll fix it for you if you come jump with me!
