  3. Skydive Spaceland is great! Nice facilities: A/C bunkhouse and packing area; Very Nice Aircraft: Super Otter, Caravan, and a 182 Super Nice Landing Area: BIG with lots of cushy grass But the real story are the Even Nicer People I spent a weekend at Spaceland and despite some semi-uncooperative weather, I had a blast. I stayed in the bunkhouse which was comfortable and well air-conditioned. The packing area is very nice and also air-conditioned, which is a huge plus. Although, I could see it getting pretty cramped on busy days. The Super Otter was nice as was the climb rate and jump altitude (between 13.6-14.1 on every load I was on). The Caravan was also very nice. The landing area is beautiful…I don’t know how many acres…but more than enough! It is covered in cushy grass and has a well defined experienced and new jumper landing areas. And if you land at the far end…you’ll likely see a staff member rolling up on the ATV to give you ride back to the hanger. The people are great. Literally everyone at the DZ seemed to be friendly and ready to answer questions or just chat. Also a big thanks to Mike and Robert for offering to do some RW jumps with a new (36 jumps) and visiting jumper and then organizing the surprise SCR attempt. I don’t think I’ll ever forget when I first realized that just about the whole load had gone up to join me on my first 8 way! Surprise!! Surprise!! That was AWESOME!!! Thanks to all for making this trip very memorable and extremely fun! I had a blast and learned a lot! I’ll definitely be back the next time I come within a half days drive of Houston! Oh yeah and thanks to Dennis for the Repack!!! I think I still owe some beers to all when I return...
  4. I have been driving the 4 hours to Elsinore pretty much every weekend this summer! Its been worth it. I love this DZ. Thanks to all the instructors and coaches that helped me on my way to my A license. I look forward to many more visits for years to come. Elsinore has an incredible vibe, great staff, quality instruction and coaching (some like the Excel camp is FREE), nice Super Otters, a HUGE landing area, year round jumping weather. Oh and did I mention that the vibe and people are incredible?
  5. Poor maintenance, low tandem jumps/pulls, shady business practices…..Do you think the fact that the Vegas Tandem Mills do not allow fun jumpers increases the risk of such things occurring? Experienced jumpers have the knowledge and courage to speak up and cry foul when things like this occur (or before). Another reason not to send your friends to tandem mills…no commitment to the sport….no commitment to safety. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  6. JT-Your HorseShoe Thread was interesting. So was reviewing this list: http://www.chutingstar.com/saves.php One individual had 15 Cutaways in less than 2 years and 8 were from Line-Overs. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  7. Hey JT. I'll be out to Mesquite when it cools down and the Caravan is back in town. Yes, It looks like I missed a few options in my haste: Line Over, Streamer, Ball-O-$hit, Horse Shoe, etc. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  8. I can't edit the poll settings now, can I? I just clicked on edit, but it only allows me to edit my first post, not the poll. Can a Moderator help me out here? - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  9. Since you didn't place a vote...I'll put that under other. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  10. I know there are stats on 'incidents' but what about stats for 'reasons' for cutaways? If you've cutaway please answer why. If you have done multiple cutaways please answer for each time. Thanks. I thought this would be interesting for a lot of people. Thanks. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  11. HA! LOL!!! I would have posted that...if only I were that clever. Sucks that they damaged their plane. The "dustdevils" here sometime are on the border of being "tornados". - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  12. Quote Been there, done that several times. A total waste. Most American companies have jumped through hoops for ISO in order to get mil/gov/euro contracts. Now the scam for this decade is the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) audit process. Hey Hey now...SOX consulting/auditing is not a scam...that's how a I pay for my skydives!! Seriously, I think that ISO from a manufacturing perspective makes good sense. SOX would be the parallel in the accounting world and has improved the quality of financial reporting (despite some of the ridiculous interpretations and wild costs). While responsible manufacturers (or public companies) might do all that is required to comply with ISO 9000 (or SOX404) without having the certification, the certification shows a commitment to quality and I think customers (or investors) in the know will value that. Hey Bill, I think the $100K will pay off...but you probably already figured that out before you spent it. And hey $100K is a bargain compared to SOX cost... - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  13. I hear yah! I'm a Vegas local and it is silly that we have (on occasion) 3 "DZ's" but all are tandem mills. Your options are to go to Mesquite (1.5hours+) or Perris/Elsinore (3.5 hours+). - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  14. SWEET! If they can retro my Jav...I'm having it done. The video of skyhook deployments on the RWS site are amazing. It looks like the best rig advancement since the three rings. Hmm.the three rings, BOC, and the skyhook...all developed by Booth...what are the other container designer's doing? - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  15. Does anyone know if the Yucca Valley wildfire smoke is effecting operations/visibility at Elsinore? Thinking of driving down tomorrow. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.

  17. I did the search, but most of the post were old and I'm wondering if things have changed. I'm considering buying a new rig and I like a lot of things about the infinity, but did the skyhook/collins lanyard combo of the vector too. Has RWS licensed this to any other makers? Is is possible to get the skyhook/collins combo on an infinity? Thanks, Mike - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  18. Thanks for the input Kelp! - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  19. What are the other differences in the current Tri5.0 and one made in 1998. (other than use/age) Has the design changed and how? Deployment/glide/flare,etc... Thanks for all of your help. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  20. I understand that the fabric used has changed on the Triathlon over time. Does anyone know the years of change and fabrics used? What about one made in early 1998? Thanks! - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  21. , and I'm sure as hell not sorry I paid $700 for a brand new canopy. Well... except that packing it sucks! WHat is this about $700 tri's? How/where? I jumped a rented tri this weekend and loved it.. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  22. Great thread. Lot's of interesting analysis. So what are the main causes of a PC in tow? Are pullouts/puds and ripcords/springloads less prone to PC in tow mals? Why Obviously I could see that a "uncocked' colapsible in you BOC could cause and issue thus increasing the 'risk', but are there other reasons/risks? Thanks. - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
  23. From what I've read and heard, a larger canopy at a specific wing loading is not as overloaded/aggresive as a smaller wing with the same loading. It seems that beginners should start with a .8-1.0 wing load, but what about bigger jumpers. For instance one with and exit weight of 220, would a 210 Pilot be an aggressive wingloaded canopy? Blue Skies! - - - I am not afraid of tomorrow, for I have seen yesterday and I love today.
