  1. "facts don't change, truths about facts change" swap truth with fact in this sentence and then I agree. Truth doesn't change, facts do. It was known as a fact that the world was flat, the truth has always been there. Facts must be proven, truth, clearly does not. Whether or not I proved the world was round with facts would not at all change the truth, which was there before it was proven by the mind of man. "We didn't start the fire"
  2. You are not going to like this. I do not beleive you are right at all. Your trying to make something fit your disbeleif is all. For all I know you have never thought about the difference between wisdom and knowledge at all before. So let me get this straight. I beleive a fact exists because we do, you do not. Fair enough. I beleive that truth belongs to wisdom, not human knowledge you do not. Fair enough. Where I get a little confused is how your telling me to leave facts and truth out of Discussions about God, where you are free to use them in regards to the theory of evolution? How about one of you brilliant scientific and political minds explain the deeper mysteries of life for all of us who only use mumbo jumbo when we think and speak? So arrogant is the human mind without humbleness. It's no wonder life has not shared all it's mystery with us yet... We're clearly not ready. Beleive what you want, but don't pretend to have the answers so much that you would even resort to arrogance. I have a sound mind, as imperfect as it is, this is your conflict not mine. But it should be known in regards to wisdom and knowledge, I don't beleive what your saying is true. The biggest example I gave is still that a man can have all the knowledge in the whole world and still have no wisdom. This example differintiates the two at least enough for further exploration in the open mind. "We didn't start the fire"
  3. A fact would not exist without the human knowledge of proof. Truth on the otherhand exists whether man does or not. A man can be given 1000 facts and still have no wisdom. Some things do not need to be proven to be true... Look at the theory of evolution. It's an absolute rock in some peoples view. But they don't have "the basic problem". "We didn't start the fire"
  4. Wisdom is the ability to optimally (effectively and efficiently) apply perceptions and knowledge and so produce the desired results. how can too much knowledge be a detriment? unless you mean, the more knowledge we aquire and apply, the less we believe in the supernatural. I don't agree. Wisdom was here before you and I and it has been teaching it's creations and maintaining the balance of life. It is the movement and it's always doing something... Seemingly to serve the purpose of good, as anything not good doesn't seem to last long before something radically changes. In reply to your other comment I'd say that there are people who need to know to live, and there are people who don't. A man could have knowledge and still have very little heart. There are plenty examples of too much knowledge being detrimental. Take the knowledge of nuclear energy for one. Do you really think a nuke is not going to go off again? The world is going nuts and nature is simply making room for something better. We are nature, we are in the realm of the wisdom of life... We know only what we are taught to know. Wisdom is the teacher, knowledge, aparently, is not. This is just what I believe.[email] "We didn't start the fire"
  5. I don't beleive that freedom comes from knowledge, I beleive it comes from wisdom, and wisdom is the understanding of knowledge. Too much knowledge can be detrimental at times. Consider this, when the human race is gone... Or "evolved into non-existance", knowledge to us will no longer matter. But, wisdom will be around forever... Charting life in a way. The real fascination to me is with life, not knowledge. Others of course beleive differently. "We didn't start the fire"
  6. Its actually a spirit in discernment of truth. If we dont eat, we will die, but also, "man does not live on bread alone, but every word that comes from the mouth of God". I just eat and dont worry about it. I think you'll agree its a pretty foolish argument. However, some people take traditions waaaayyyyy too far..... even some modern day evangelical Christians have been known to hang on some traditions aye? But the truth of the Gospel is very clear... Jesus said to them, "I did one miracle, and you are all astonished. 22Yet, because Moses gave you circumcision (though actually it did not come from Moses, but from the patriarchs), you circumcise a child on the Sabbath. 23Now if a child can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing the whole man on the Sabbath? 24Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment." "We didn't start the fire"
  7. "One of those" Yeah, Im one of those. I try to shed my dependency on the world, but it is a double edged sword isnt it? Someone is great at saving, but never spends... someone is healthy, alive, and energetic, but never makes it to 40. Some people have it all figured out, some live in wonder. Whos right, whos wrong? Who cares! The truth is that every day could be your last day on earth... Too much planning for the future may inhibit the ability to live in the present. Too much fashioning to an "image" may make some miss who they truly are. Some might say that a bum failed at success, others might see that a bum as a man who sees through the systematic nonsense and refuses to conform to its trappings and therefore lives off the land in creative and even desirable ways. Who is to say who is right? "Cause its when your backs against the wall, and everything is pushing you to fall, you know you do not always have to have a plan... there is a heart in man" Right now, America and the world is following the tradition of success. What a tradition it is too. But, is it the one that is most important? Only you can answer that one. "We didn't start the fire"
  8. Yeah, I use way too many words to try and express whats in my heart. I hate it, but its how I write I guess. Id trade all the words I have ever written or spoken for someone to meet the Jesus I met. In his power, not in my expression of it. "We didn't start the fire"
  9. Ill stir... How much difference does it make? I think America was founded to be a free country, for everyone to be free. Its a great idea and it shows that when it works, it is worth dying for, but when it doesnt, it teaches us why. True freedom comes from understanding, something that many pretend to have. Freedom, with genuine conflict, discussed in a "non-hostile" enviorment, with people of great character, some Christian, some not, is what America was founded on. Beleivers or not, I think any one of them might be shocked to see some of the things we have compromised on, however, America was founded on compromise. So what we are seeing is the idea of compromise evolving, not necessarily the idea of freedom. Freedom is found in the heart, and its reward is greater than compromise. "We didn't start the fire"
  10. It seems as educated scientific minds continue to evolve and reveal, so do spiritually minded minds, and so do other types of minds. But, I wonder what a thousand years would do to the "tendencies" of both of them? No matter what the wise and the learned find, there will always be a heart in man... And humbleness is a great reward in life. I personally dont think that life was not intended to be greater than that which it gives life to, its not going to reveal everything is it... that goes against its survival "codes". But, if the truth is eternal, then it can be found in our minds and in our hearts... right now. The wisdom of God lives in the heart of man, but we refuse to see that it is in repentance and faith. As weak men we refuse to see that humbleness is a greater reward than self pride. My only question is why? I still maintain that life "evolved", "changed" "adapted" certain minds for certain things, and that is why we all dont understand each other, but in the meantime, the future is being uncovered. It could mean that something too bright for us to look at is underneath it all. But again, certain minds for certain things means there is a purpose to it all, and I cant avoid that in my mind. I got a frieind who is very scientific, really good mechanic... personally, I think hes brilliant. (Kinda goofy looking if you judge by appearances) but a real genuine guy. So, a 20 yr old, genuine, scientific, brilliant freind adamantly believes there is no God, and is incredibly relying 100% on the mind of man... is this just a coincidence? He's not the only one who has shocked me with scientific wisdom. I like it alot, especially cosmology, but I dont study it becasue my mind is trained elsewhere. Lately alot has been on skydiving to be honest... its no secret that Jesus is the ruler of it all though to people who know me... at least I hope not. So in short, I think it is fascinating what our minds have been able to do. Skydiving alone is made possible by so many great minds, believers and non-believers alike... I personally just dont think its all coincidence. Not only that, I believe that grace is the greatest secret and that nothing will ever come close to it, not even skydiving. Grace for me makes everything that much better, even in the sufferings. God wants our hearts and it seems he gives us whats in our minds. My mind is trained to speak so that others may hear, thats it. Its wild to me how much negative attention the Gospel attracts, and it is a great message of peace and love. I mean what message are we waiting for to see the truth, if not a message of love? A message of sin and rebellion? That was already given to us through the law, to find grace. We can put Heaven back on earth, but it has to come from within our own hearts and minds, and there has to be a King. Just as life bears life, there has to be an origin and therefore a purpose. Etided to add a bit... "We didn't start the fire"
  11. I had a reply ready, but I think if you havent read a Gospel yet, read one. Thats all you have to do. I get everything from the Gospel... or at least the spirit behind it that is. It may take a slow reader 4 hours to read one Gospel. For scientific type people I would think the effects of the Gospel on the human mind would be quite intriguing... definitely worth studying... or at least reading. "We didn't start the fire"
  12. If something came from nothing, how exactly do you conclude it cant happen again? That is, if life was to be completely eliminated from the universe, and you maintain that something can come from nothing, how do you conclude that life can die? It seems more likely that something came from something.. sort of like life itself is an eternal force that sustains its existance even in space... Isnt it a bit curious to know that life in you had to come from life? A quality of life is that it can create life... it does not come from nothing, it comes from life itself. "We didn't start the fire"
  13. OK! Now that the bickering is mostly done… Let's go back to the Founders. Shall We? ...be my guest.
  14. ...and much more efficient and expediant travel... he was/is a very wise "man" to say the least. He may have even been more wise than you? We are not too far off from everyone in the world hearing and seeing the same thing at the same time, as one eye, one ear. A message can go very far in todays technology... just imagine 20 or 50 years from now. I didnt even have the internet till 2001.. may have been 2002. All im saying is that just as you cant ignore certain things, neither can I. That is, you cant seem to ignore the need for evidence to believe, and I cant ignore what is in my mind. "We didn't start the fire"
  15. I answered your question in bold, but ended up writing alot. I have no reason to believe that anything with life does not have purpose. It seems it is all connected in some way. It is even possible that you and I are related. It is probable that in war, families fight against each other without knowing they are related in blood. We learn from suffering and death and also from love and joy. The learning can be, and often is strong enough for a revelation. A revelation will change a perception, and a perception has the power to transcend space and time... which makes it universal and eternal. Yes, I believe there is a purpose in/to/of our lives. Consider an absolute perfect circle. Take away even just one portion of it... just the smallest brush of the line, and the circle is no longer perfect. Life is this circle, and all peices have there place. Another thing to consider is two completely different civilizations. Even without influence from one another, there will be incredible similarites in love, that is if fear doesnt provoke ignorance, intolerance, and agression first. Have you ever heard the saying "If you dont understand it, get rid of it"? That is all fear. But, it is through this understanding that we find the revelations of love and peace as well. dz.com is not the first time I have been confronted about aliens. I often wonder that if life is truly all about survival, as many scientists maintain, then if life (intelligent or not) is found in another enviornment, more likely than not, they would be as hostile in thier ignorance as us. I would look for a connecting force on their planet but also one that beckons survival, and therefore, some type of defence, such as fear and aggression. But, I have no reason to not believe their connecting force would not have incredible similarities to ours... do I? I view love as a universal force and just as powerful as it is invisible. I view life as the mirror that reflects its light. sorry i wrote so much "We didn't start the fire"
  16. Life seems to be about revelation. In the flash of an instant the light can be revealed. God is love. We reflect this love, and everything in the balance as well. Nothing is "set up" by God... everything is God. All we can do is follow our hearts. "We didn't start the fire"
  17. I have a sound mind, thats it. Everyone here believes what they want to believe... including you. I approach these "conversations" (some might consider many of them attacks) like anyone else who challenges their own mind. Many of you do not like that i dont believe what you believe because it challenges what you believe. Just as what many of you do to me. Surely Im no more offensive to you as you are to me? More likely than not, I am on the defensive side, having to defend what I believe against people who continually believe that I am a ridiculous waste of a mind. Just paraphrasing... sort of. Many times I am told by people on here that I have no communications skills, no reason, no logic, no understanding, ect... But I say "YOu and I simply disagree" and im the one accused of being condescending? How about adding something to the conversation instead of just expressing your frustration with me? Respectively. "We didn't start the fire"
  18. I agree. Yes and No. Im merely pointing out what many Christians have been pointing out since Jesus told us of what was to come. I am fully aware that these things have been happening since the beginning, and there is nothing at all unique about it to me... at least not yet. Even the Apostles thought Jesus would return in their lifetime... that was 2000 years ago. The point is not to predict, but to recognize, wait, and be ready. Thats it. But make no mistake about it. When someone tells you the world would be better if we just eliminated God by eliminating the believers... that is the budding spirit of the anti Christ, and people need to know that. "We didn't start the fire"
  19. You and I simply disagree. The voice of life is going to continue to speak throughout eternity, so also is the voice of death... apparently, they need each other, and you dont have any "evidence" against that. Respectively. I hope that one day we can all live knowing there is more life around every single corner... like when we were children. If life came from nothing (as many of you suggest), I think it is safe to say that life by its very nature, can never die. I am trying to show you the difference between living and life. Living is obvious, life on the otherhand is much more miraculous in nature. "We didn't start the fire"
  20. Sorry, I stand by my post. A man who believes this life is it has no hope. Sure, hope is experienced in this life without believing in God, but that is so that we might know what hope is, and know that it is good. Grace is also experienced without faith in God, usually closer to our infancy and childhood ironically enough. Also protection and comfort, and the list goes on. Is it only a coincidence that these are also qualities of goodness? Penn jillette is also operating on the premise of fallacy is he not? In fact it seems he was quite enlightened under the same premise. Its just too bad that his enlightenment is based entirely on evidence. Anyone can believe something they can see, touch, taste, observe... thats extraordinarily easy. Our minds are built to challenge what we hear, so, naturally, my mind is challenging mr jillettes, and I still say he has no hope, and, is leading others into the same pit. Hope is a right of life. Only, we can freely give it away, and, we can freely keep it. The choice is ours. "We didn't start the fire"
  21. That is one way to see it yes. Another way to see it is that the prophesy is being heard by greater amounts of people, really than ever before. With the advent of the internet and the worlds biggest legal militia... the media... we hear the rumors more quickly and more emphatically. In otherwards, we see more of the signs than ever before as one world eye. However, the Gospel is clear that the biggest sign will be the anti Christ. He has not yet appeared, but his spirit is definitely inspiring his "chain of command." This isnt me being a pessimist. This is me telling you the prophesy in the Gospel, thats it. Believe it or dont believe it, its not like Christians are called to kill you... unlike other "truths" out there. "We didn't start the fire"
  22. Ive read this exact article before. Here on dz.com actually.. about 2 years ago. It seems this man has forfeited his right to hope. So, while his intellect is quite inspiring for some, his spirit is leading the dead. I know many dont like me using that word, but, a man who has no hope is already dead... just not in the ground yet. Its sad to me how many he is leading away, and how many cant wait to believe there is no God. "We didn't start the fire"
  23. I got this before from these forums and it does hold alot of truth. JCD I believe spoke of a song by someone talking about the idea of love. He said, "was it love or the idea of love". I dont remember what I wrote him back, but that stuck, in a good way. I mean, it is a very interesting and provocative thought, or idea even. The thought being that love could only be a strong idea in someone. Anyway, I have kept it in my head and incorporate it in different places ect.. Its cool... and it doesnt stop with love. I noticed that basic song about Love just being an idea, could be used for many human expressions and emotions. So, it seems the only way to truly be satisfied with the answer to that question is by asking yourself if you believe that love is an idea, or something more. I mean, is hope merely an idea.. faith? At what point does an idea become real? At what point does the light turn on and you recieve a change of perception? At what point does that idea become real? This answer is only found in your heart. It cant be found anywhere else. "We didn't start the fire"
  24. That is exactly the point. Its not that these things have not been happening... I think we all know that. Its that at what point do they begin to be seen as prophetic fulfillment? Jesus is speaking about the time he will return again... he's not giving us a geology and history lesson. He is telling us that when we see these things happening, that the end is near. "We didn't start the fire"
  25. Its not what they are saying, its what they have said. If you listen, even the rotting dead speak. But I know, I know, this is crazy. "We didn't start the fire"
