1. I bought an LG Lightscribe drive a few months ago and I like it. About 12 min for a label but everything comes out very light. Text comes out crisp but pictures are very hard to make out. Did I just buy crappy discs? Can anyone post a scan of one of their finished lightscribe discs?
2. Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good source to get a good deal on a wide angle lens for my Rebel TI., (24, 28mm) any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
3. Thanks, Lew. Very good information. I'll Just have to try it when they get the 135 out and make my own decision. Openings were a strong selling point for the crossfire along with power of the swoop. The Katana will have to swoop a lot harder than the crossfire for me to want to give up those sweet, sweet openings.
4. I really want to jump the Katana 135. Had my name in for a demo since they started advertising the thing. As far as being very similar to a samurai, I couldn't imagine it would be. PD says it fits between a Stilletto and velocity. I recently sold my samurai since I switched to a crossfire of similar size. I loved the flight characteristics of the Samurai but the crossfire is much more high performance. The speed generated from a dive on the crossfire is incredible when compared with a samurai. I have a pre-conceived idea that the katana will outperform the Crossfire. Anyone got any input on that?
5. I had a problem with my suit that I ordered in Dec. From Jump 1 in it the zip off legs (that I didn't ask for) were coming unzipped. I tried all kinds of crap to keep them closed but nothing worked. I took them to my friend that owns a sewing machine dealership to see if she could sew the legs together where the zippers are. She said she could but she said the zipper was installed improperly and that's what was wrong with them. So I sent a long winded email to Kurupee complaining about the problem hoping they'd offer to fix them, and then I recommended that they light their remaining supply of Taslan on fire because it freakin' sucks for a jumpsuit. I chose it because I thought it would be more like the stuff other suit makers use but I was wrong. After I rec'd it I looked into the fabric. It's the same crap that is used to make Ski bibs. (If you like to go for swims in the pond it's great, damn near waterproof!) The stuff does not breathe. It's hard to fly because it balloons up from air entering the arms and legs and gives you a shitload of surface area! It's kind of uncomfortable at first because when it blows up it will float your rig off you back and really make you question whether or not you forgot something important. Anyway their customer service was great. They offered to make me a new suit out of cotton, with no leg zippers, and keep the old one. Just got the new one today and it's great. The leg and arm closures are the best i've seen. For the person that asked in an earlier post, attached is a photo of the same suit made in taslan on left, cotton on right. Got kind of fuzzy sizing it down so it would fit on the post but you'll get the idea.
6. Vote #3 for Freeflyhol. Absolutely incredible.
7. I bought my first complete rig, 3 mains and a d-box for my camera all right here on dropzone.com. The classifieds rock. I have yet to have someone do me wrong.
8. Look into having a lip sewn onto the slider. My Jedei has one and that thing opens so slow it's almost scary. check out the attachment. That little pocket on the front of the slider does wonders, keeps it pushed up against the canopy longer during opening sequence.
9. The Caravan returns to Desert Skydiving Center in Buckeye Nov. 1st for the season. That weekend jump tickets are only $12 to 14K!! Come out to play and experience one of Buckeye's unrivaled Saturday parties. We are the closest DZ to Phoenix off of exit 109 Palo Verde Rd. Then 1 mi. south. Come on out and see what you've been missing!
10. I guy at my drop zone was involved in a 3 way horny gorrilla when the pilot chute slipped out of his dolphin. Blew the sidewall out and blew some stitching out of the left lift web. If you're gonna buy a dolphin stay flat with it. My mom does only 2 or 3 jumps a month in her dolphin and it's fine for some recreational small way skydives. If you think you might want to push the envelope someday go with some of the other choices, And don't you think the mirage is sexy?
11. You mentioned the Lotus as a prospective choice, if you can get your hands on a demo definitely jump on it. Brian Germain's airlocked canopies are amazing.
12. Thanks, Mick. That's the best answer I've got on the subject. The only reason I brought it up with you guys is because all that have seen it in person say "whoa, you'd better have that checked out." Then the first reply from mirage was as follows: "Good morning, We looked at your picture and we have seen this on regular hardware. This is caused by the slide bar going back and forth and what that is the finish coming off. This is not a problem unless you see a groove wearing into the hardware then we would be concerned. Keep an eye on this and let us know if wear begins to show. This was shown to the designer of our containers and this is his explanation on what you are seeing and from what the picture shows to us. Thanks, Connie That's what kind of got me going because a groove did appear. I'll quit bitchin' now that mick has put things into perspective. There was just something about the idea of falling out of my rig that didn't sit well with me.
13. I am one of those peole who inspect their hardware very closely. From the beginning I was taught to check hardware for cracks, and though I will admit I don't check it before each jump but at least once a week or so. I am positive It wasn't always there. I'm not too worried about it but it's something I keep a close eye on now. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this experience and what the outcome was.
14. I have sent the attached photo to Mirage for an assesment and I have been told by them that this is normal wear on legstrap hardware, or a defect in the mold. I ordered this rig a year ago and the problem just showed up a couple of weeks ago. No one I have shown it to has ever seen it before, what do you guys think? Anyone else have this happen to them?
15. Before you make the purchase, consider the Big Air Sportz LOTUS. It incorporates Brian Germain's Airlock system and fits right inline with the Sabre2 Safire2 canopies. Slightly tapered on the trailing edge. I jump the Samurai from the same manufacturer. I love the airlock system. It feels like a solid rigid wing over your head. PD is contracted to build the canopy so there is no reason to be concerned with quality. Read about them at www.bigairsportz.com
