  1. hmm, never thought of that but I actually like the idea!
  2. You're not considering double counting the ones having multiple licenses which is not unusual (and actually quite common) Also you write about license holders/members - you can't correlate same ratio of active skydivers as you do not know all variables and licensing rules are different from country to country. Lets take a look at populations too US - 319,000,000 people - 33,000 active license holders (not active skydivers) Germany - 80,000,000 people - 17,424 license holders (seems more less reasonable, but how many have USPA membership and is included in US number?) UK - 64,000,000 people - 30,000 members (really? - 5x less people same number of members? Also how many hold USPA license therefore count toward the US number as well?) France - 66,000,000 people - 45,825 license holders. So 1/5 of population but 1.5x the licenses. Do they count military members? Also, how many have USPA membership as well? I'd be surprised if there were significantly more than 50-60,000 active skydivers in the world. Maybe 75,000 if I were to stretch it .... but who knows.
  3. Some people believe what they want to believe. The industry will continue evolving regardless of any of the major manufacturers going out of business, Robi included. After all they are building inflatable dresses, not spaceships... Let's not forget that we are not that special... mmkay?
  4. I truly doubt it. If you think Robi is the only one designing suits than you need to get your head out of your ass
  5. from PF site: Lead time and Rush orders The current lead time on a new Phoenix-Fly suit is around 16-18 weeks. During less busy periods when lead time is around 6-8 weeks, Phoenix-Fly offers a rush order service for those in immediate need of a wingsuit. This cuts production in time by half. When lead time exceeds 6-8 weeks we are unable to offer a rush order service to ensure no further delay to other wingsuits in the production queue. It would be good to know when is the less busy period. A friend of mine got his havok is just under 6 months. Great suit I hear, long waiting time I hear as well. No hate, just fyi.
  6. If you want it for next summer, I'd order now....
  7. uhmmm a friend bought a Safire2 with dacron lines. It was a used canopy but with only 10 jumps on it (still very, very crisp). It was originally made for some demo/or was sponsored as it came with a logo. So they definitely make them with Dacron... Did you email/call them? (I guess it's possible they say no to you anyway which would be rather puzzling)
  8. Oh man, this guy is full of batshit crazy! Run! Better yet - istall HideHeid extension from Chrome store and block his incoherent ramblings best chrome plugin
  9. Well, if you leave your main or reserve packed for more than 6 months those will definitely start disintegrating from the lack of oxygen supply. That's why there is a 6 month cycle period - canopies have to breath in order to maintain the integrity. Ok, I was joking. Keep the main packed and enjoy the nice opening when you go back to jump next year. Give your container to the rigger to have your reserve repacked when you're ready to start jumping again.
  10. I would even go further than this. Disappointed is going easy on Mirage. It's also very amateurish. The way I see it - video with only 4 cutaways of canopy flying mostly straight and not malfunctioning, bad music that was used without owner's permission, "get it while it's hot!" quote that is just hilarious to me because: a) nobody knows anything about it b) no manuals, informational material about length of testing, parameters of testing, etc So all Mirage's got is "get it while it's hot"? Hey everyone, it's new and cool and you should get it woohoo If I were their customer I'd wait 3-4 years to see how it works out in the field on other test jumpers. /I'm not a hater - just find this "release" quite comical. Wish them the best, I am in favor of MARD in general so I hope it works well. /edited to add: It's called a trap system? Seriously? I know it's just a name but when going for my last chance at staying alive I wouldn't want to rely on a "trap".... Now, Can my reserve get trapped somehow and never come out? I'm joking, but if it ever happens they are screwed - no amount of marketing will be able to reverse that.
  11. I just thought what you wrote was a bit inconsistent but I think you gave very reasonable explanations. I agree and I prefer my odds with skyhook. I also jump camera (but nothing too bulky) and I always have my skyhook-rsl attached.
  12. So I'm just a little puzzled by what you wrote - not attacking you in any way. You said yes to Skyhook but no to RSL. But Skyhook can become a normal RSL in certain situations. And that is okay for you? FYI - I have a Skyhook equipped rig and my only cutaway so far was a standard rsl reserve deployment on a spinning mal that had me on my back
  13. You know it's called Skyhook-RSL right? If you're using a Skyhook you are using a RSL as well... There can be a situation where Skyhook will disconnect from the bridle during cutaway and the rest will resemble a standard RSL cutaway.
  14. but he's not going to investigate himself since no accident ever happened... it was the bench that fell onto the spectator. bad stuff happens
  15. From a political standpoint (and for someone who does not live there) this would an interesting thing to happen. Quite fascinating, to be honest, to watch a country separate from the UK. But it's easy to just watch from the sidelines, not having any vested interest ...
  16. Do I? Skyrad understood and answered my question (addressed to him) quite well, unlike you trolling for meanings. His posts made impression that the rest of UK (after Scotland leaves) would be much better off since Scotland is taking more money than it contributes. So not sure why he would be against them leaving if it meant less of his tax money being wasted on the Scots. Hence my question. Also, I wasn't aware the United Kingdom would just magically disappear - Wales, N.Ireland and England would not be united any more or something? Okay, so I will call them PUKoK, better? (Partially United Kingdom of Kallend)
  17. hmm.. so I don't understand one thing - if Scotland will be so much worse and the UK will be so much better without them then why are you against the Scotland leaving the UK and getting independence? /Not that I care one way or the other
  18. I should have included wl. I was good 15 lbs lighter back then (now I'm 200 including gear out the door) So that put me at 1.25 wl on 150. I didn't think that was aggressive, I was also pretty competent, taking canopy courses, landing in all conditions. I essentially skipped 170 (only 30 jumps) as it flew just like the 190 at the time for me - couldn't tell any difference... I've now also taken 5 canopy classes, 4 with PD/Flight-1 guys and started ripping some nice swoops on my KA135. Anyway, at the rate I'm going, I won't see a velocity for another hundreds of jumps - I really like to push my current wings to the max and dot have too much money to throw on new stuff every year
  19. this is approximate as I don't have my logbook with me. 1 - 30 Navigator/Spectre/Sabre2 in sizes 210-260 31 - 300 Sabre2 190 301 - 330 Sabre2 170 331 - 750 Sabre2 150 751 - 1000 Sabre2 135 1001 - 1130 Katana 135/ (Sabre2 135 on wingsuit jumps) Something tells me I'm not cool enough as I don't downsize quickly enough...
  20. So let me understand this better - the injured student is also to blame because ... he didn't foresee that an experienced tandem instructor would hook turn into him? ... because he jumped out of a plane? That's quite an outlook you got!
  21. I don't know man - that's just comedy. I met her once, she was a super nice lady so I can't say anything bad about her.
  22. They serve the pizza they fly with
