  1. "Center 405 unintelligible" Standard aviation radio calls start out 1) Who you're calling --"(Seattle) Center" 2) Who you are -- "(flight) 405" "20.9" would be an abbreviation for "120.9" the VHF frequency to which they might have been directed to change to contact the next controller. "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  2. Let's just say that a parachute dedicated to emergency use (a pilot rig) might be considered more reliable than a sport main. The emergency rig has to be packed by a licensed FAA rigger, while a sport main may be packed by the person making the jump. If Cooper had experience walking around the back of a plane dropping objects, he would have been wearing a pilot emergency rig, not a sport rig. The sport rig would have modifications unfamiliar to a load master. It makes sense to stick with something familiar. "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 3. Good luck finding a lender! I think about 50% of the houses sold in SW Riverside county in the last few months were foreclosures. With the price of gas, not as many people are interested in the long commutes to jobs in Orange or L.A. Counties. It will be years before there is any significant new residential construction in that area "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 4. Bozo- I don't know how bad your back is, but Janna has 3 fused Vertebrae from a skydiving injury and still trains with a team ( 8 - 12 jumps per day). And her DOB is before the DOM on the panel of my first cheapo! Good luck & blue skies. Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 5. Flew with 2 students in one of the school's Warriors today. Added up the total landings: 13! And was able to taxi back to the tie down at the end of the day! Blue Skies! "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  6. OK, I'll chime in. Besides the jump stats on my profile, I'm an ATP w/8500 hrs., including a fair amount of experience flying jumpers both at DZ's with all the paperwork for the planes, and letting them out of 172's with the door on. As Bill Von quoted, there are specific regs regarding jumping (FAR Part 105). Whether you and the pilot want to follow them is something I can't control. Just be aware of the consequences if something goes wrong. If all the paperwork is in order, the FAA will probably just kick some dirt into the crater and walk away. If the paperwork is not in order, you're asking for trouble for everyone remotely involved. That could include legitimate jump operations that get caught in a dragnet of increased scrutiny. For my part, whenever I had jumpers wanting to go to Frans Ranch (do a search in History and Trivia) I got the landowner's permission ("Honey, if you're coming here to business, you can get here any way you want"). I also filed a NOTAM and contacted ATC before I let the jumpers out. I had the FSDO issue the Supplimental Operating Limitations for Flight with Door Removed for my airplane. None of these steps were really difficult or time consuming. Save busting the regulations for times when there is no practical alternative. BSBD Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? 8. 1969 FJC $29.95 (static Line, of course) $4.00 to 7200 $7.50, to 12,500, but 1st load was 1/2 price if wheels up by 8:30 a.m. "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  9. Sounds like a priority problem to me. I had fun @ Elsinore today, probably going again tomorrow. Of course, I'm not on a team. Blue Skies! Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  10. I just got a call from a recently certificated commercial pilot who knew me from a ground school course I taught at the local community college. He answered an ad for a jump pilot and was leaving in a couple of days to start. He wanted to know someplace local where he could get a "high performance" endorsement. So we're going to see a newly minted commercial pilot, with under 300 hrs., and a fresh high performance rating flying the 182 or 206 at someone's drop zone. The best I could do was direct him to Diverdriver's website to get general info about flying jumpers. I also suggested he insist on practicing stalls and take offs and landings at gross weight and the aft c.g. often found in loaded jump planes. I suggested sand bags rather than people for the practice. Finally, I pulled up NTSB reports of skydiver 182 & 206 crashes for the last few years and forwarded them to him. With the info available to him, if he practices the gross weight maneuvers, even with his limited experience he'll probably be relatively safe. I'm glad he called me so he could get some "mental prep" before starting. BSBD Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 12. I had fun at a pilots' seminar on hypoxia. Question: "What causes hypoxia? " Answer: "Tits in the right seat of an Otter at The Prairie." BSBD! "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  13. Even if BOTH parents signed you could still have a problem. As a DZO, it's your call as to whether the benefit of letting the minor jump is worth the potential problems. "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  14. DISTRICT COURT OF APPEAL OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA FOURTH DISTRICT July Term 2007 JORDAN FIELDS, as Personal Representative of the Estate of CHRISTOPHER JONES, http://floridaarbitrationlaw.com/cases/fields_v_thunder_motor_cross.pdf Final statement of the ruling: "Accordingly, we also certify the following question to the supreme court as one of great public importance. 15. couple of things really really bugged me the entire movieQuote Like flying in a Pan Am DC-3 that had a closed door but also a FLOATER BAR ? I sure miss jumping and flying 6MA! "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."
  16. To get this back on track, it is not the parent who is the plaintiff in the suit; it is the estate of the deceased child. The underage deceased did not have the legal capacity to sign a waiver, so the service provider handed the papers to the parent. As a general rule, no one (not even a parent) can sign away another party's right to sue. In some cases, the parents or another party can petition the court to be appointed the power of attorney for a specific instance. The courts have made a general exception in cases in which it would be harmful for the child if no waiver was signed, i.e., the child needed immediate medical attention and the medical provider required an agreement to arbitrate rather than file a suit in court. The question here is not whether a waiver is binding. The question is whether the parent can sign the waiver for the child. Even if both parents did not want the suit to be filed, another party (even a county social services department) looking out for the child's welfare could petition a court to be appointed as guardian of the child and have the suit filed. That's something for DZO's to think about when letting their underage children jump. BSBD Harry L. "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 17. Yep, the DC-3 in the movie had a floater bar. Could almost make out my fingerprints! I've got about 20 hrs. logged SIC in 6MA. Blue Skies! Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." "Your statement answered your question."

  20. I'll bet there were a number of WWII bomber pilots who did that. Remember that 10 kts., was the wind limit for STUDENT jumpers on round back then, 14- 18 was not uncommon for experienced jumpers. What I mean is that the wind conditions weren't really that crappy. As for planning on doing it, it comes down to an individual risk vs. benefit determination BSBD Harry "Harry, why did you land all the way out there? Nobody else landed out there." 22. I was the treasurer of the Perris Valley Skydiving Society which ran the operation @ Perris 1985 - 1987. I guess that gives me some knowledge of what's involved. Although you are using the word "club," are you sure you want that form of management/woenership? There are a lot of different business entities that can exist, all with different ways of controlling the business and limiting the risks of the owner/members. We had a board of governors that included lawyers, riggers, instructors, pilots, bankers. Unless you and your prospective other "members" have that kind of expertise, or some $ to spend on a professional business consultant, you probably won't get the answers you need. Good luck.
