  1. You don't read newspapers and you aren't in SOCOM.
  2. A member of the 9-11 comission and former member of Reagan's cabinet says otherwise: http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,200~20954~2484165,00.html http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/10/23/113806.shtml I believe you. I believe the US military can accomplish any mission if they are given the proper equipment and support from their higher command. That I do not have. Please see my second post where I said
  3. I think the timing of the video is intentional, either to influence the vote or to signal any sleeper cells to start their mission, which will also influence the vote. Will it achive his objective? I don't know which candidate Osama wants in power.
  4. I agree with that. The threat will not go away with Osama's death. But I also think that Osama is as big a lightening rod for his followers as he is for his enemies. I do not believe the death of Osama is beyond the capability of a focused US administration.
  5. I think we have the knowledge. Or at least the capability, if we focus our resources.
  6. I don't agree with either of you. I believe the USA knows or should know exactly where Osama is. I also believe the village he is hiding in could be destroyed with no fanfare and Osama could simply cease to exist with little political repercussions. Can he really become a martyr if he is never heard from again and his body is never found?
  7. I don't think it is about oil. My initial post was supposed to be unbiased, but I am getting angrier and angrier. I do not believe it is beyond the ability of the USA to take out one man. I do not believe our relations with Pakistan are fragile enough that it should stop us from killing this man. I think it was a conscious decision by the current administration to allow Bin Laden to live. Maybe this is Karl Rove's 'October Surprise' Conspiracy is easier to believe than incompetance.
  8. I'm not trying to argue for or against any candidate. I'm just an American who would be happy if this man never took another breath. I don't believe the US Government does not know where he is. Well, I don't believe if they had spent 3 YEARS really searching for him, that his location would be unknown. My brother says: "it has a lot to do with keeping a friendly face in Pakistan." That may be true, but I don't think it is a worthy explanation.
  9. The Pentagon is backpedaling, they achieved their objective for this news cycle: http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000085&sid=aWyx6zPKWIVA&refer=europe
  10. I don't think the UN would elect Bill if they thought Hillary might be President. If Bill and Hillary's plan is for Bill to be Sec. Gen., I think Hillary will have to renounce any plan for the White House. If the plan is for Hillary to sit in the oval office, Bill won't take the job. I personally don't think Hillary could win, or any woman or minority for that matter. Not based on my personal choices, but based on my view of the US electorate.
  11. I think Clinton WILL help Kerry. After all, the man defeated 2 republican candidates on his own. I think it will keep Kerry in the spotlight and give him a boost, which will result in a solid victory that even Karl Rove won't be able to contest. http://www.cnn.com/POLLSERVER/results/14090.exclude.html
  12. And they do not believe any US troops abide by the Geneva Convention, because their press has been saturated with the Abu Ghraib and Gitmo abuses of the Geneva Convention practiced by US troops and the US administration. If it were me... I hope I wouldn't beg, But I'd probably do whatever it would take to stay alive as long as possible in the hope I'd find a way to escape, like Thomas Hamill did.

    Death Rituals

The History Channel has a documentary on right now regarding the construction of caskets. Not that I'm terribly interested, but it got me thinking about my father's funeral, nearly 5 years ago. One of the strangest memories is a comment from the funeral director. Pop died on a Friday morning, I took a suit and such to the funeral home that day or the next so he could be properly presented for the visitation. When I went to the funeral home before the visitation, the funeral director mentioned that I had forgotten to bring underpants for my father, and he had dressed him without them. He seemed somewhat disturbed. I thought about it for a moment and quickly decided that 1.) The old man wouldn't have cared. Had he been asked before he died I think his response would have been something like 'Why would I care? I'm dead!" 2.) None of the people paying their respects would see it, or hopefully even think about the possibility. Over the years that comment keeps coming back to me. Did I disrespect my old man by burying him without underwear?

  15. I want one of these that can drive me home from the bar.
  16. DOD and Army Times say it was at her request. http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Oct2004/n10212004_2004102105.html http://www.armytimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-465278.php

  19. There are those that say the extensive call-up of Guard and Reserve troops is a 'Back Door Draft'. I don't agree with that, but I do think a Guard or Reserve enlistment today is much more likely to result in a deployment than it was 10 or 15 years ago. It doesn't seem too long ago when the recruitment commercials said "One weekend a month, two weeks a year..." That sounds like a vacation.
  20. Maybe the army you were in had the proper equipment for the situation? Soldiers that followed the regs? I doubt all of your officers were competant, mine weren't, but we managed to get the job done despite them.
  21. Apparently some of the vehicles were not mission ready, 'Deadlined', meaning that by the regulations they were not allowed to be used until repaired. I read that one of the vehicles couldn't go faster than 40 mph. Bad transmission maybe? I'd hate to be sitting in a 5000 gallon fuel truck when the transmission goes out in the middle of the Suuni triangle. It looks to me like an NCO stood up and refused to lead his or her soldiers into a dangerous environment with faulty equipment. I'm waiting for more details.
  22. http://www.blinders.org/jon-stewart-crossfire.wmv It's worth watching, and easier than reading the transcript.
  23. I'm watching it right now, it is great! He's stubbornly refusing to cede any ground as he calls the hosts partisan lackeys who are failing the public by pandering to their guests.
