  1. A first jump students #1 priority after deployment is to make sure they have a good landable canopy and get it under control, most students have a very difficult time using the rear risers for anything on the big student canopies because of heavy riser pressure and high stress levels after deployment ,and they are usually hanging in the saddle by 4,000 feet and are exiting in the back of the exit order as well.First jump students are not doing anything bigger than a 3-way and maybe with video, and the other two in the 3-way are AFF-I's and a maybe a video person who should be pulling lower and watching for the student and each other as well. I am not saying they should not be aware of other canopies and avoidance, but a first jump student needs to do their CCC and get control of their canopy before they can be effective at avoidance maneuvers.
  2. Right. Students are taught that after deployment, look up at the canopy, check altitude, unstow brakes and do CCC while watching the canopy to look for any problems, then check air space, locate DZ and fly to holding area. The only difference for an experienced skydiver would be to use rear risers to steer quickly away from potential collisions immediately after full inflation is achieved. If someone can't take care of the slider, flip up their vizor, undo booties, shut off camera with their canopy in full flight, then maybe they shouldn't be flying that canopy. If there is a problem with plan A,then plan B should be implemented while altitude is plentiful, because you may need to fix plan B if it doesn't work as planned, since plan B is just another parachute.
  3. A 30 cal battle rifle with selective fire from semi to full auto is alot of fire power to be allowed for citizens in a battle zone occupied by foreign military forces. Sounds like they have far less restrictions on weapons under our military over there than the people who were in the part of the US (new orleans) hit by hurricane Katrina had. I hear the cops and military were confiscating every weapon they could find in new orleans after Katrina.
  4. 100% If for whatever reason I end up with a screwed up main below 1,000 feet,I personally would not cut away, but would activate the reserve to get more fabric out. I do not have a skyhook, but even if I did, I would not want to bet my life on it giving me a fully functional reserve below 1,000 feet either. I could be wrong, but I believe the skyhook is designed to help get the reserve to line stretch faster, but doesn't guarantee the reserve will be fully inflated at line stretch. The skyhook sounds like a great backup but still no guarantee, since there are no guarantees, but rather there are disclaimers in this sport.
  5. >or making releasing your chest strap the very last thing you do.......... That would be how I would do it,since I like to have easy access to red and silver, just in case.
  6. I wouldn't bet my life on a reserve being fully open and controllable within 3 seconds. A reserve is just another parachute, and can be subject to slow openings or fast hard openings, just like a main can be. I've had a few reserve rides, and from my personal experience they usually open quickly and on heading, but sometimes they snivel, open in linetwist,or open spinning with tension knots. There are no guarantees that any parachute will always open as planned, thats all I'm saying.
  7. >All the more reason to grant them less power and control over our lives. You got that right! I personally dislike republicans and democrats, and feel they are all crooked as hell, but I'm far more suspicious of democrats when it comes to being subjected to a nanny state.
  8. >If the standard is 3 seconds it misses by a long shot. Since when is it that a reserve should be expected to be fully open and be controllable within 3 seconds? Hell there is no guarantee that any parachute will open properly at all, even a properly packed reserve. Having an AAD open your container at 750 feet is an absolute last ditch chance at life, and heavy emphasis on the chance part.
  9. >A criminal anticipating using a gun in a crime is not going to agree to undergo a background check. Only the law-abiding people, for whom background checks are a waste of time, will bother to comply with such a law. Thus it accomplishes nothing to stop crime, and inconveniences and cost many innocent people. That's a bad way to create laws. That is the reality of it,but the hard left doesn't care about the reality of it. The hard left here in the USA has wanted to disarm the citizens for decades just like leftist nanny state governments throughout history have sought to accomplish around the world. Hitler did it,stalin did it,Pol pot did it,north korea, china, ect. People should not fear their government, but rather their government should fear the people. If the people have no weapons to defend against a tyrannical government, then any resistance to tyranny will be extremely hard to say the least. Total control without threat of resistance is what socialist regimes and dictators need to come into, and to stay in power.
  10. >Gun purchases going up,crime going down. Funny how that works isn't it. But some say that an armed society is a polite society.
  11. Yep,if it wasn't for oil they would just be a poor backward dust pit of a place that no one cared about.
  12. >call me when you get to Mecca I would most likely have to text you from mecca since I would probably have my tongue cut out by the locals before I could call. I would catch alot of attention with my large nordic build, blue eyes and blonde hair. That along with being very outspoken, as you probably already know, and even on my best behavior would be sure to offend some of those dear sweet, tolerant folks in mecca to the point of religious frenzy.
  13. I've always loved the idea of visiting the middle east, just like I've always wanted to pour gasoline in my eyes. Ahhh the oppressive heat and desolate desert sand of dubai. There is the sea to deal with as well, but hey no place is perfect. And how about all that tolerance for other cultures and religions thats so famous over there in the middle east. Oh yeah, don't forget about all that freedom of speech and the fair and just legal system they enjoy over there. The equality shown to every man, and women is also world renowned as we all know. I'm torn between dubai or north korea.
  14. >never bothered pulling the kill line all the way back into the channel to hide the tabs. Wow! I can't believe people wouldn't take the few extra seconds to fully set the kill line and stow the tabs back into the channels. Doesn't the saying go "If it can happen,it will happen"? So these unseated kill lines hanging out are entangling in the suspesion lines, imagine that. Even if every fold is right, and every line is properly placed and stowed, and everything else that go's into a pack job is right,it can still go bad, right? What if the slider ends up being collapsed as you are packing the canopy because you end up unkowingly pulling out more of the kill line you left hanging out? People have had brutal experiences from collapsed sliders on deployment right? Why are people so complacent about this very simple thing that takes only seconds to do? Hell,I do it after I land, along with stowing my toggles before I walk in from the landing area.
  15. Would the government training be free? Would they supply the drugs and booze? I've trained extensively with vodka and coors light, but would be very open to some professional instruction and I try hard to stay open to new things.
  16. >In that context the word coon would also be appropriate. Speaking of coons,I seen one eating cat food off the old lady down the streets porch last night. It was pretty good size,I would guess about 35 pounds or so. What was really funny was the lady's cat sitting there watching the coon eat all the food while the lady gave me the evil stink eye through her window because she thought her dog was barking at me through the screen door while I walked by. From the size of that coon,I bet she buys alot of cat food.
  17. Drugs, guns, cars, ect,do not hurt anyone without human influence. People are hurt by other people by either a conscious intent to do harm,or by lack of a conscious effort to avoid potential harm while participating in a potentially dangerous activity. Life is and always has been dangerous, but I'm sure it is much safer here in the US than it was thousands of years ago anywhere in the world. We are pretty damn safe from things like epidemic diseases, and starvation here in the US. Those two threats kill alot of humans worldwide. Back to the original topic again. I know some people who worry about AIDS exposure from gay people. They do not realize that you are just as likely to be exposed to aids by a hot girl who looks very, very healthy. I'm sure there are a few macho dumbass players who might still be worried about exposure in the locker rooms or close contact on the court from a gay guy,but not think twice about the guys who are players with the ladies. I wonder how Magic Johnson is doing?
  18. I would like to apologise for participating in drifting away from the original topic of this thread.
  19. And how do you suppose we stop it? Should we give up all are freedom and liberty? There are places in the world where they have stopped most drug and alcohol related crimes, like say North Korea as example. Would you like to live there? You can't protect everyone from everything, unless you take total control of everything, and then you have a place like North Korea. Most deaths from drugs by the way are self inflicted, and more adults and children are probably injured or killed from non drug related events than from drug induced rage, neglect,or driving under the influence. How many people are victims of distractions while operating motor vehicles alone? Texting, eating, talking, yelling at the kids, adjusting the radio, fatigue, speeding, ect, while driving is very common behavior without drug involvement.
  20. If you drive while intoxicated or beat people up because you are a drunk asshole, and you get caught, then you are punished. If you neglect your kids you will also have problems with the law. Punishing everyone for what some people might do while under the influence is classic nanny state philosophy. You can not prevent assholes from being assholes by legislation. The use of non prescribed drugs is illegal under federal law,the act of operating motor vehicles while impaired by any substance is illegal, child neglect is illegal, beating people up is illegal, murder is illegal, ect, ect, yet these laws are broken all the time. Laws that protect people from themselves are stupid, since they punish them for victimizing no one else but themselves. Humans have used drugs from before recorded history, and there have been addicts and assholes for as long as well,it's not going to stop. Instead of legislating against what people might do to themselves,we should enforce legislation on what bad things they actually do to others with more severe punishment. If someone wants to victimize themselves with substance abuse then let them, but do not fill up all the prison space with them, but rather save that needed space for those who victimize others. Back to the main topic. If someone wants to be friends with someone who is gay, thats their right. If someone doesn't want to associate with gay people, then thats their right as well. I have gay friends who are cool as hell,I also know a few assholes who are gay,it's no different than dealing with straight folks,or people of different races and religions. If a private business or citizen doesn't want to be associated with gay people, straight people, white people, black people, christians, jews, muslims, ect, they should have that right,it's their loss. You shouldn't force people to think and do what they don't want to do in their private business in regards to personal beliefs. They have the right to refuse service to,or segregate themselves from anyone, and you have the right to avoid there business and spend your time and money elsewhere. The government on the other hand should not discriminate against anyone for religion, race, sex,or lifestyle. It's supposed to be a free country right?
  21. >Peoples private lives are theirs to live as they wish. I agree,as long as a person doesn't cause harm to anyone else or anything else. What happens between consenting adults is none of our business. I think people should be able to use drugs and alcohol as long as they are not under the influence while operating machinery,or if the substance use might dangerously impair their ability to care for children or others under their care. If you want to get paid for sex,or pay for sex, that should not be the business of anyone else either. If you want to live on double bacon burgers at the heart attack grill and be fat it's your life and no one else should have a say in it. LIFE LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS! I am surprised that this guys revelation of being gay is even news in this country in this day and age. There are alot more news worthy events taking place around the country and the world.
  22. >What a load of bullshit. Couldn't agree more.
  23. I received my pellet gun when I was 7,and my 22 rifle at 9. The ammo was always locked up until we went plinking. At age 14 I was allowed to shoot unsupervised, but still had to ask for the ammo. It was second nature to never point the barrel at anything other than targets or game, and all guns were considered loaded and ready to fire no matter what.
