  1. I agree that skydiving safely is far more complicated and takes a lot more skill than shooting a gun safely.
We all love skydiving, but I bet that a gun owner who is an active skydiver(100+ jumps per year),and is able to drop a few thousand bucks of income per year skydiving,is more likely to be badly injured or killed skydiving than by their own gun. I know, and have known a lot of skydivers over the years, and almost all who were badly injured or died violently did so skydiving.
Just my opinion, but I feel that skydiving is far more of a danger to myself than having a gun in my home.
That being said,I love to skydive and will continue to accept the risk for participating.

  2. >they use chopsticks...

Chopsticks could be deadly if sharpened up.
Then put then in a high capacity belt pouch and you basically have a high capacity chopstick magazine.
Chopsticks should be banned along with all knives, forks, sporks, spoons that could hold an edge,pencils,pens.rocks,sticks.... ha ha ha ha ha I actual watched an interview of a progressive liberal who said all of this minus the chopsticks, but I'm sure he would have wanted them banned as well.

  3. So you are saying if the kids with the American flag threaten the kids with the Mexican flag, then the kids with the Mexican flag should be ordered to put the mexican flag away for their own protection?
Or, are you saying the American flag should always be put away if there is ever any threat of violence on behalf of any group towards any group involving the flags of nations?

  4. A katana and a cross bow like the redneck uses on the walking dead would be a nice combo. A nice high capacity gun would work well for when you find yourself cornered by a bunch of progressive liberal zombies, since just the sight of the high capacity guns would most likely make their heads explode without the need to fire a shot.

  5. >Agreed. But if SHTF guns will the the least of your worries.

When people start dying of thirst and hunger, and they get cold and angry, they will revert back to survival of the strongest,or in other words the best armed.
This is when guns will become very important for self preservation.
But natural disasters aside, what if social and political events led to SHTF.
I bet the jews who were rounded up by the nazis wished they had some guns when those nazi thugs were kicking in the doors.

  6. Who is talking about doomsday? Disastrous events both natural and man made have occurred throughout history, and not just ancient history. Not since mankind has been around has there been a end of all life doomsday event, though it has happened in the past.
Both natural and man made disasters and social and political unrest happen all around the globe. These things might not be the end of the world, but it would be hell for those in areas hit by them.
Most people forget about the bad stuff and think it could never happen to them.

  7. There are several events that could lead to chaos in any society.
Natural disaster events like storms, earthquakes, volcanic events, solar flare disruption of the grid, just to name a few, could take place, and in many instances give little if any warning.
Then there are threats of social unrest leading to mass violence or attacks upon infrastructure by terrorist, as just a couple examples of human caused events that are very possible as well, and could also take place with little warning.
If someone wants to wait until SHTF before thinking about survival then good luck scrambling to find ways to to do so.

  8. I've hunted elk and deer, and my dad used to hunt black bear(which I see no good reason for since bear taste like hell in my opinion) and when a shot is placed properly with a good penetrating round, all animals drop in their tracks. This holds true for all animals, including intoxicated humans.
Brown bears have been killed instantly with .22 cal long rifle rounds straight on through the eye at close range. Is it a good idea to hunt anything, especially bear with a .22 or a handgun? Hell no it's not a good plan for success.
But even cape buffalo, elephants, and other hard boned large animals are easily killed with the right shot placement and proper penetration.
Comparing any handgun less than a 500 magnum or 454 casull with a high powered rifle is like comparing a moped to a crotch rocket, and comparing humans to any large animal is like comparing tissue paper to cardboard.
Hand guns are close range personal defense weapons, that are easier to pack around than long guns, and should only be used when at close range, and they are designed for use against soft targets (humans) but are better than punching, kicking,or trying to run from dangerous large animals, and I've personally seen bear run from the loud report of a pistol without being hit, which is a win win scenario in my book.
As far as defending against mass shooters,I agree it's best to stay out of the cross hairs and out of range if possible ,but once targeted trying to hide behind doors and walls of normal building materials will not afford much protection if they are blasting away at your location. If the shooter has you cornered, and you have a handgun, at least you have an equal chance of shooting back and making solid hits on your attacker, which in my opinion is better than just sitting there wishing for mercy from a nutjob.
In the case of home invasion from a stronger, faster more effective individual,or individuals, then the gun can once again be your salvation.

  9. The question was"Does having a gun in the home make you safer?"
This is just one study, and seems to be very slanted towards anti gun agendas.
From my 51 years of personal experience,I've known 5 people who were victims of accidental shootings, and none were fatal, all but one were self inflicted, the 4 others were LE officers of which three were using glocks.
I've known a lot of people who have committed suicide but only one who used a gun to do it.
I am from Washington state, and 95% of the people I have known own guns. In fact most of the people I've known who killed themselves owned guns, yet all but one used methods other than gunshot to kill themselves.
I have known several people who have protected themselves from threats, both human and animal, many without actually hitting the threat or even firing a shot as far as that go's.
So this study smells like a pile to me.

  10. Yes! It makes me feel a lot safer to have access to an equalizer in case of home invasion. Kinda like the georgia mother of young twins who used her .38 revolver against the guy who chased them into an upstairs crawlspace.
The mother tried to retreat with her children to hide but the crowbar wielding thug cornered them and she shot him five times in the face.He discontinued his attack.
How about the security camera footage of the mother alone with her children who used her firearm to fend off three armed home invaders in detroit.
It is silly to imply that a gun for the majority of citizens will increase their risk of suicide over the benefit of the protection afforded by the possession of a gun.
First off most people do not want to commit suicide, otherwise we would not have over population. If someone wants to kill themselves then a gun can be very effective in getting the job done, but I can't see how a gun will increase your chances of feeling like killing yourself.
So you think it's a bad idea for lawful citizens to have guns for protecting the lives of themselves and their loved ones
because a small minority of suicidal people might kill themselves with guns?
Now there is always the risk of irresponsible gun owners allowing guns to be accessed by those who should not have access to them, but I feel the numbers of those hurt by accidental shootings are far less than the numbers of people who have been protected from harm by defensive use of guns. You asked the question. This is my answer from my own life experience.

  11. >To what do you attribute that?

    Poverty!
I can understand black communities being impoverished a few decades ago,but since affirmative action, it seems they have far better access to education and employment, just like all the other minority groups in the US.Asians and latinos often seem to have taken very good advantage of it.
I have always been very impressed with both asian and latino family unity when compared to the rest of us in the US,and I think this has a big influence in being prosperous.

  12. >The homicide rate for blacks in America is 15 per 100k.For non-blacks it's 3 per 100k.

The real kicker is that nearly all murders of black people are committed by black people. Most all violence against black people is committed by black people.
On the flip side, there is a significant amount of violence including murder committed against white people by black people, yet black people comprise a much smaller percentage of the population than white people.

  13. Yeah that is some very deep bullshit!
I would like to see Larry Elder tear this woman apart in an interview.
I'm extremely impressed by Larry,he is very intelligent and realistic about what is going on at present.
I loved the last episode I seen of Tavis Smiley that he was on.
He was extremely well spoken as always, and had all his facts straight in response to Tavis Smileys emotionally charged knee jerk rhetoric.
Larry Elder cares about not just the black communities, but about every person weather black, native american, white, asian, hispanic, jews, muslims, christians, and believes that we should see all races as simply the human race.

  14. First off,the wild west was not as violent as some would have you believe. In fact, the wild west was a far more polite society than we live in today.
Second,SYG doesn't mean that you can attack someone and then shoot them when you start getting your ass kicked.
You also can't physically attack someone because they are simply following you.
You can't physically attack someone if they are yelling foul things at you.
If someone physically attacks you, then you can defend yourself.

  15. >Seriously. This is pretty fucked up.

It is very fucked up,but it doesn't surprise me since the public education bar has been lowered for more than a couple of decades in the US.No child left behind, everyone is a winner.
I have met several people in recent years, who were HS graduates, who did not know about the electromagnetic field on earth, or about true north and magnetic north along with the lack of other common scientific knowledge.
There are those who would have us believe that public education is doing better than ever here in the US,but compared to most other developed countries it's a joke.
The older people who lack common knowledge are simply lazy and ignorant, and it seems it is not uncommon for these people to become elected public officials nowdays.

  16. No reason to be sorry at all. I've very little experience outside of traffic court, and have only been called to jury duty once for a non violence realated trial.
You are well versed in the law where as I'm just an old logger/ heavy industry worker/skydive instructor.

  17. >humans as a whole are terribly flawed

Very true and that is why there is always the potential for those who seek and achieve positions of power to abuse that power, and become unjust and tyrannical.
Some people just seek to victimize those who are not as strong by hurting them face to face.
These are just two reasons why we have the 2nd.
SYG can not be used as a defense in this guys case since he was the aggressor.
In the Zimmerman case evidence shows that Trayvon attacked him.
You can't just turn and attack someone because they are following you by the way.
This guy is going away for the rest of his life, which is getting off easy in my book.
If the DA would have sought a 2nd degree instead of 1st degree murder conviction they would have had much better success in doing so it seems.
Trying to prove premeditation seems to be far harder to do.
