  1. Matt, It looks very nice, thank you for sharing!
  2. I hope by the time I have the budget for the digital sytem (hopefully soon) Teradek Clip will be available in h265 too. Half work load (meaning half band width) more range for the given transmitter power... I read up on h265 yesterday... :) I hope in the next month or two I'll have some positive results either way. Thanks again!
  3. Thanks for the HEVC info! Right now I'm tweaking with existing and affordable systems like Teradek Clip (not even the higher end Bolt...) since nobody really wants to pay for skydivers, therefore there's no real broadcasting budget... So right now I would be happy to put together a simple h264 1080 30p helmet mountable system for $2-3K. Even that amount seems far out of reach when I tell people about it's cost. 4K live feed using HEVC would be awesome though...
  4. I rigged a few live view systems for both airplanes and free fall with outstanding successes. (including live view demo jump at Yankee Stadium's jumbotrone! ) Unfortunately they are all analog SD 480i video systems... Now I'm trying to get a few grand to start experiment with digtal 1080p h264 streaming... If I get the funds I'll make it happen significantly cheaper than HeroCast and should be able to work to 4-5000 meters.
  5. Yes I agree 100% about the editing and the work flow... Last year I owned the Cine 4K for a few months and made some jumps with it. The final result can be incredible, but it is definitely lot of work in Davinci Resolve (which itself is a series project just to learn to use the basics...). The shooting isn't that simple either... Image stabilized lens helps a lot with the shake in freefall, maual exposure is definitely difficult to change and set properly in a crowded airplane :) Equipment like BMD only makes sense if there's a definite budget for its utilization I should "revisit" those test shots for further post production just for fun and learn more :) The attached picture is a "processed" 4K frame grab from BMD Cine 4K
  6. The other new BMD announcement seems pretty cool too for the price... https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicursamini
  7. "The "bad things" you are speaking about is pretty general. As it applies to what I said what would be an example of something in the Bible?" A few pretty "bad things" in the Bible: Deuteronomy 20:16-18 16 However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. 17 Completely destroy[a] them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—as the Lord your God has commanded you. 18 Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the Lord your God. Luke 12:49-53 49 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! 50 But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! 51 Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. 52 From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. 53 They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law Ephesians 6:5-8 5 Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. 6 Obey them not only to win their favor when their eye is on you, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart. 7 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free. ...just a few examples
  8. Congratulations Juan! I'll definitely get a copy. Did you find a publisher or self effort?
  9. I can do it Please PM to me to sort out details.
  10. I just saw this long back and forth debate about "manal or auto focus" regarding this 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 lens. Here is the fact using it on Canon APS-C sized (1.6 crop) senzors This lens at 10mm has the maximum aperture of 4.5. This means if this lens at 10mm manually focused to 4 feet (about 1.2meter) everything is going to be sharp from 1.97 feet (~0.59m) to infinity. If the aperture number is is kept above 4.5 the lens actually can be focused even closer to have the infinite sharpness. This 10-18mm at 18mm has f5.6 as a largest aperture. This means if this lens is focused to 10.5feet (~3.15m) at f5.6 everything is going to be in focus from 5.13 feet (~1.5m) to infinity. But let say we use Av mode and maintain f8 at 18mm and we focus to 7.5 feet (~2.3m), then everything from 3.63 feet (~1.1m) to infinity will be sharp.
  11. From 4K (UHD actually ) video you can capture an approximately 8MP frame which is NOT necessary going to be an 8MB file size. GoPros's 4K video is highly compressed, so the 3MB file size (I assume jpeg) as a frame grab sounds very reasonable. Check the resolution of the image which should be 3840x2160 pixels.
  12. Nice! if you have a chance to shoot with a RED then you don't need an DSLR...
  13. AAD, pull high, and have a good hook knife or two!
  14. I just wrote a quick review/blog on my photography FB page yesterday about the Samsung NX Mini which I use for a month now. The link for the post: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=341258856052882&id=155523361293100 And everything loads from the side, so the camera doesn't have to be taken off from the helmet to change battery or SD card!!!
  15. We used manual focus, shutter, and aperture with auto ISO. We also shot the video at 60 frames per second, so the shutter was at 1/120sec. In the past I shot some production stuff at 24p and one occasion the director specifically asked me for 1/48sec shutter... Works great on the ground, but can be too jittery in freefall. (It is possible though if the jump is smooth and don't have to chase the subject constantly). So the 1/120sec is a better option IMO (director liked it too).
  16. Alright.... Here's a mirrorless camera so far the most suitable for skydiving IMO. I just got the Samsung NX mini with 9mm lens which provides 24mm wide view. Full specs and description of the camera can be checked out here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1039835-REG/samsung_ev_nxf1zzb1hus_nx_mini_mirrorless_digital.html I've been using this camera for tandem stills in the last two weeks and it works great. The major advantage of the Samsung NX mini vs. other mirrorless on the market are: -Battery and card loads from the side -Wired remote option, utilizes its micro USB port -8oz (250 grams) total weight. -High burst rate for those who wants them -RAW files too! -Pro level setting options, including full manual. Of course the 20.5MP resolution compare to my Canon 5D Mark-II 21MP can't even come close. But it's understandable since Samsung NX mini has a significantly smaller sensor (2.7 crop factor) with a small and cheap lens. But overall for a $300 camera its is very impressive! Ebay deals: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-NX-Mini-Mirrorless-Digital-Camera-with-9mm-Lens-White-/321405452386?pt=Digital_Cameras&hash=item4ad5420062 If anyone is interested about about adapter for an existing bite, mouth, and blow switch, or need a mouth switch made for Samsung please PM to me! See attached pictures of the camera in my hand Also a few links for shots I took with the NX mini: http://www.laszloimage.com/2014/August_2014/#CAVU_Aug_29_14%20028.JPG http://www.laszloimage.com/2014/August_2014/#CAVU_Aug_29_14_056.jpg this one was taken at 3200 ISO! 17. This music video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvhUvgpV2x0 was shot with Canon 5D Mark-IIIs I shot wit a 35mm lens the other two camera guys were shooting at 24mm
  18. It has good reviews on the internet. So it's probably worthy. For twice the money, but for sure high quality Canon 8-15mm f4 L....
  19. I agree. For everybody: UPT (used to be Relative Workshop) requires 500RW jumps to go chase/do relative work with a tandem. Addition to that 100 camera jumps to video a tandem. So it means 500 RW + 100 camera jump required to film a tandem! By some reason this part of the tandem manufacturer's REQUIREMENT is ignored a lot, while it is just as serius as geting a tandem rating! Further more here in the US tandem skydiving is regulated by the FAA (FAR Part 105) which clearly requires to comply with the tandem system manufacturer's standards and requirements. This means (now I can only talk about UPT's Sigma system) if a 150 jumps wonder goes out with a tandem here in the US is a violation of Federal Aviation Regulations! I still need to look up Strong's rules (I can't exactly remember them) but they are similar too.
  20. While my move was definitely a partisan action, I wasn't rude or unprofessional. Never called any of those guys duchebags or dicks, not even a thief which they would have actually deserved. As an expert of this specific field of photography I simply and firmly pointed out the facts. Also gave solid explanation about the "why" of those images couldn't be taken as they claimed. I don't think it's a bad thing to do. As you might noticed one of the shots (the one got removed) actually got the attention of the editor, received some nominations. The other one got a fair amount of compliments. Both claimed they took the image while they made only one jump in their lives. If something was misleading about skydiving then those two definitely were. Yes I was surfing the NatGeo images since one "our" well recognized photographer Brian Buckland was published in the March issue. (yet I really don't need to explain myself why and what for I'm browsing the net ) Matter the fact is I'm going to write the letter about this "skydiver impostor/pretender" issue to National Geographic. NatGeo is a organization with the goal of educating people about science, culture, and generally about the whole world through the camera lens. But not even National Geographic can be aware of every single details, just like this one about skydiving photography on their site. They have to rely on the honesty of the photographers when they submit images (all those little questionnaires in the online submitting process). Hopefully my notes will help them to display skydiving images only by those who can actually explain how the images were taken, which will/can provide real educational value to other non skydivers. RMK and DSE explained the rest. Thank you! Laszlo
  21. Yes indeed I made that public post on NatGeo site, since the site allows to critique the submitted images. The comment doesn't always have to be positive either... I expressed my opinion in a professional manner. I pointed out the fact the image wasn't taken by the person (his name is Parth Patel in this case) who submitted it. And as RMK said that in his respond to your post the whole point is to upload images on NatGeo's "Your Shot" page is to show "what you can take" with your camera vs. "what you can get or buy" taken by others. Therefore even if this guy somehow has a 100% copy right ownership for those handy cam shots and the TM/I guy absolutely doesn't care who uses the images for what, the point is Parth Patel did NOT take it while he claims that he did. Outside video or handy cam either way it takes a lot of effort to gain that level of experience in the sport to be able to come up with a descent shot. Unfortunately most people don't have the concept of that based on reading their comments and compliments. Addressing this issue publicly hopefully can educate the public a little bit of the aspects of skydiving photography. Further more just because someone doesn't know copy right laws (most people actually don't) it doesn't mean it can be ignored. It's just like any other laws... ...and don't mind to be a douchebag to stand up for the skydiving photography community and publicly (but definitely professionally) make comments against impostors! 22. Thank you Lisa for the compliment and all the info! I wonder why would people claim things what can be busted so easily. A "kinda celebrity" gave an interview after his first jump. He told to the camera he was so cool during his 1st tandem jump the instructor actually released him and let him skydive by himself for a bit... :) The link appears to work for me, thanks again anyway. Laszlo
  23. Yeh, NatGeo had a quick reaction and removed the photo. But I'm surprised they didn't ban the guy (Siddhartha Khandelwal) from the site. It's also a great to hear some of you found the real photographer. Thank you guys! Laszlo
  24. I found this skydiving photo on National Geographic's web site: http://yourshot.nationalgeographic.com/photos/2532629/ The problem is the guy who claims taking this picture also states that he made only one jump in his life. So obviously he couldn't take a freefall shot like this with a DSLR. This means he uses somebody else's photo, which is a copy right infringement. Besides that he also fooled a whole bunch of people including a NatGeo editor. Please read his statements and postings about this photo. By the way does anyone of you skydiving photographer fellows recognize this shot?
