  1. There's no way we can get rid of the Great hall! I say poll that on a new forum. There are far too many skydivers who have had great memories in there. I remember this one time someone left a mattress on the floor and I totally got naughty with this cute chick I jumped with that day on it. Then RTB walked in on us. That's probably why the mattresses get burned. I hoped nobody slept on it afterwards. 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  2. I'd say going an inexpensive freefly whole body suit would be best. When learning freefly you will probably start sitflying (should anyway). To just start with freefly pants and a shirt (as you mentioned due to heat/humidity) you'll have more drag on your legs than on your upper body. This is opposite of what you want to start sitting. Not only that, you can't take freefly pants in the tunnel, has to be a full body suit. Really if you want to start learning freefly and you must wear a piece of freefly clothing (if a baggy longsleeve shirt and shorts isn't cool enough) getting a cheap fullbody suit is wisest. I bought from Kurupee, they offer suits starting around $180. Some have said nasty things about Kurupee but I've had a great experience with it. 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  3. I fell in love with the skeleton design and ordered it almost 2 years ago. The customer service chick was very helpful and responded quickly to emails. The suit was very inexpensive compared to others out there. I never did get that tracking number I was promised but whatever. When the time was about done with when I was supposed to get it I sent an email asking about the suit. She told me there were a few delays and customs but it'll be there soon. It was about a month late (but what skydiving gear have you EVER ordered that got to you on time?) When I got it everything seemed to fit great. The cuffs were comfortable and effective. I have some hard times getting the cuff on my right hand on because I'm not so good with my left hand (you'll have to see the cuff to know what I'm talking about). After freeflying with it for about a year I'd come to the conclusion that it should've been a little tighter around the torso and thighs but I'll just order a less baggy suit next time. I haven't had ANY of these problems other people seem to have with material quality. I got about 800 jumps and an hour of tunnel time out of the suit before it was time for a new one, this time a bit tighter. It came maybe 3 weeks late (not bad) and it was a little snug in the crotch (I did ask for it to be tighter though). So far it's holding up great.
  4. I put most of my jumps on an original sabre and got used to canopies that like to dive. I tried the Stilleto 135 but didn't really like how reluctant it was to really dive. So I was also looking into a Katana. I did some jumps on a Hurricane 135 and a 120 and decided it was the one for me. Some of these PD/Icarus/Precision canopies were over $2000 for a new canopy! My new custom Hurricane 120 cost me just over $1100. The zero porosity coating is different than other companies too. The Hurricane comes with a coating that is not slippery like other new zero P's. It was super easy to pack the first time I packed it. No slippage at all! I've since put 500 jumps on it and it is quite a ride. The toggle turns create quite a dive. You'll be able to see the horizon OVER your canopy when you spin it. It'll keep the speed up longer too. I'd say it has a medium to light amount of front riser pressure. You can really make it float too if you're out on a long spot. It offers you soo much control. The flare is really nice and powerful. You can flatten the canopy and pull out of a dive fast any time you want. My only con is that some canopies can be really forgiving with sloppy packing and body position. Not really this one. If you pack sloppy and don't keep nice body position for and through the open you can get whirly off headings and maybe a spanker (had 2 in 500 jumps on it). It's not too bad though. Just don't expect to be getting those promised nice on heading openings if you pack and pull like sh*t.
  5. I wanted to get into flying video and bought a Sony PC-1000 when they were brand new to the market. I ordered a RAWA through Aerostore for it. Since the PC1000 was new Aerostore did not have it readily available or something but they worked with me to figure out what camera it was. I heard from Larry at Aerostore that my order was of the first two the RAWA company received for a PC1000. Apparently as a result the guys down at RAWA bought a PC1000 so that they could make molds for it. I got my helmet ALMOST exactly on time (a little late but what skydiving gear isn't?) It fit perfect and comfortable. It had 2 slots for audibles which is great for video while freeflying. The chin cup works great and is comfortable. I just recently added a Canon rebel XT to the top without too much problems. The helmet proved great for begining to fly video since everything was contained and molded round. Nothing poked out or stuck out to get snagged. I think it's a really safe choice to go with. Great price too!
  6. For my video lens, I put one of those cheapo UV filters on it (by recommendations) to protect the expensive lens from getting scratched. If the sigma 15mm does not allow for filters to be on it, one should one do, if anything, to protect it? How much difference is there between brands of fisheye 15mm anyway? Is it really worth paying a bit more? 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  7. Jump in Connecticut! I live in Connecticut (this year) and CPI is my home DZ (this year). If you want to be absolutely safe in this sport, jump at CPI! This place is amazing! We have the S&TA: (fist name) you're grounded till you're dead" (last name). You may not learn too many advanced skills but trust me, you'll be grounded for sooo many absolutely stupid things for at least 2 weeks at a time that you won't feel any safer anywhere else. There is one drawback though, you won't jump very much (unless you have thousands of skydives) and you'll be told you're just not good enough a lot. By the end of the season (and 20 jumps later) you'll feel you've taken an absolutely SAFE approach to the sport, simply DON'T JUMP! It's sooo easy! It's a little bit of an exageration, not much (just a bit honestly), but this DZ is sooo safe it'll make you nauseus and wondering why you ever entered this sport in the first place. (Break your pinky on a PLF? Grounded for 2 weeks, NOT KIDDING!) 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook

  10. Well I don't want to give up on him so easily, If ANYBODY OUT THERE is from the Ranch, NY (My home away from home) or from MVS/DSC please call him and invite him to stuff/events. Keep him in it! Help me since I am 2 states away. He's a great guy. Thanks! 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  11. But here's the wierd thing, HE GOT ME JUMPING! I did a tandem with a video, when he saw it, he said: I will not rest until WE are doing that! when he saw my video. (THAT's what got ME started on AFF!) It was ALL his idea! Now I'm hooked and HE is only interested (apparently) if I'M there. I really want to keep jumping with him, some of the funnest jumps of my life! But it seems as though he only got started becuse he thought it could be something we could continue together. In the military though, we had to split from MY move, and now it seems as though he's not interested, even by the local DZ's! 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  12. I've got this great friend... we started AFF together, we got our A-licenses together... but then I moved away. I always seemed more interested in jumping and I continued jumping... but he, got some gear, let it go out of date, and kind of quit jumping. If I ever call and present the idea of coming back and doing some jumps together, he sounds like he needs to get his reserve in date so he can do it etc... and really wants too. The local small DZs in his area don't really appeal enough to him to keep jumping regularly (or maybe it's just the people there). But in 3 years he's got about 60-70 jumps because I wasn't there to continue jumping with him. He's a great guy (who learns fast) who really should continue to jump but doesn't have the "friend" connection to really do it. It's sad for me to call him up and tell him I'm coming up and have him tell me he'll try and get his rig pencil packed for my visit so he can jump with me (since I guess continuing skydiving on his own doesn't seem interesting enough on his own to keep his reserve in date). We went to boot camp together, some military schooling together, and I wish he'd continue jumping like I did. He lives in the upstate new york area, any ideas I can present to him so we do not lose a great guy from our skydiving community? Please help all you more experianced skydiving folk! 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  13. Unfortunately growing up I was not exposed to anyone who knew much of anything about photography. At my home DZ there isn't really anybody anymore who has a strong knowledgable base in photography (we've got one guy pretty much who does stills). I saw and liked the idea of taking a local course on photography from a community college, however, I'm here in Connecticut active duty in Groton in the Navy stationed on a submarine. We go out on patrol a lot and are out to sea sometimes for months at a time with not much notice ahead of time. As much as I would like to take a communtiy college class, it's not in my cards right now. I respect your opinion about getting photography experiance before jumping it, however, I am extremely limited for resources. This is why I ask you guys on DZ.com about what kind of wide angle lens to start out with and why. It seems as though the only way possible for me is to figure it out for myself with any help you guys can give me along the way. I'm just trying to avoid making a dumb mistake and spend needed money on a lens I shouldn't have bought. Any advice you can give from your experiance would be appreciated. Thanks!

  15. I took a look at the sigma 15mm lens online and it looks like a good buy. However, someone recommended to me to take some shots with a circular polarizer filter and it seems from the description that the sigma 15mm won't really allow for that. I guess since everyone else is using that lens, nobody else is using any kind of filter. Does anybody else use filters? If so, what is a good lens like the sigma 15mm that will give the option for using filters? And just to make sure, the sigma 15mm will fit the Canon rebel XT right? 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  16. what does the f/2.8 mean? why the different lenses for ground and air? What does the mm size mean? 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  17. I'm in the same boat. I recently bought a Canon Rebel XT (my first still camera for skydiving) and want a wide angle lens. I've shopped around on B&H and read peoples advice on these threads but to be honest I don't know the first thing about lenses and what all these numbers mean. I want something I can put filters on and that isn't rediculous in price. I don't know what any pros and cons about what mm size is what and what that means or this F1.8 thing. I'm not doing professional tandems or anything, I just want to take good pics with friends with a wider angle. Please help! 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook

  20. Now to become a skilled player you would (when presented with the balls by surprise) keep direct eye to eye contact with your attacker no matter how elaborate their surprise is. If not you'd get a stiff kick in the ass. A skilled player would also be able to catch anyone by surprise even with the most difficult and creative moves. There are variations to this game, mostly male lockeroom shenanigans. 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  21. Has anyone else seen the movie "waiting"? If not, here's a brief description of "the game". Think of a creative way to get a friend or cooworker to look at your male genitalia. If you can outwit and get them to look, you earn the right to make fun of them (namecalling, etc) and boot them in the ass. Number of boots depends on how difficult the move was to achieve. My friends/cooworkers have been playing this game long before this movie came out. It is a sick game and we're quite surprised it's leeching out to the mainstream. So I'm wondering how far this game would go in the skydiving world since it really does take a sick group of people and if anyone else out there has been playing this game too. We're obviously not the only ones anymore. (Go rent the movie, it's hilarious) 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
  22. WTF? What's wrong with all you losers? A 30 minute skydive is totally achievable, if you're cool (like me). Let me teach you all something (losers). You gotta get one of those cool new (not as cool as me) birdphoenixmanfly helium wingsuits. The wings are filled with helium, DUH! Since you're so floaty, you even help the plane get to altitude quicker. We're talking a C182 to 20,000ft in like 2 minutes or something. Then in freefall, you're only at a downward speed of about 5 MPH but forward speed of like 600 MPH or something. You'd all know that if you were cool like me. The suit comes with these cool wheels on the chest so that you can land the suit on the runway and only need your parachute to slow you down after landing. In feel like I'm talking to a bunch of whuffo newbies. God! , 108 way head down world record!!! http://www.simonbones.com Hit me up on Facebook
