At your level, these are questions that you absolutely must ask and clarify with your instructors. Going into your 2nd jump with a cloud of information is a good way to make the wrong decision. blank

Thanks for the input.. you seem to be one of the only other people that seem to know what we're talking about. It doesn't happen on every jump and will pretty much clear itself prior to releasing the brakes. It just seems more happy overall when it's in full flight. Maybe it doesn't matter, but what is the DOM of your Spectre? DOM 2009 ~500 jumps. FWIW, the trashier I pack, the better it opens - God help me when I get onto something more twitchy! - Do you do anything extra in your pack jobs? Rolling the nose, excessive flaking etc.. blank -

Canopy stalling just after opening, brakes stowed

Does this happen on every jump? Does it clear eventually, or only when you release the toggles? I jump the same canopy with a similar, but slightly higher WL. Not all that irregularly I get a bit of funk on opening. Perfect Spectre snivel, on heading etc, but the center cells sometimes take a while to properly inflate. It causes a lot of shuddering, searching and general instability much like a stall. This clears well before I've touched the toggles, but sounds like a similar thing that you're experiencing. Inspections reveal nothing untoward and flies fantastically otherwise, so I just put it down to my packing! This wasn't of much use to you, I'm sure, but I'm interested to hear what people say about your experience :) blank -

I mean, why would you want a phone to do anything else other than ring, and transmit a voice signal.... yet here you are, on your smart phone, challenging a company who are trying to advance the capabilities of an otherwise simple device. Irony 101. If you don't want it, don't buy it, but if we all stayed stagnant in technology, we'd all still be jumping ex military WW2 roundies - thankfully we've progressed :) blank

I had to send mine back for alteration. It was mainly due to my measuring errors but I feel they made the suit a fair bit tighter in some areas too. The suit relaxed a little, but not much, so don;t rely on that if the suit is uncomfortably tight. Vladdy is also super helpful so I'm sure you'll get it sorted :) blank

What's the deal with the Parasport F Series jumpsuits?

So there's NO reason to get a custom as a beginner, but you SHOULD wear a jumpsuit for all the reasons you listed... If you're going to buy a jumpsuit anyway, and you can afford a custom that fits perfectly, why wouldn't you? Unless I'm missing something, it seems that affordability is your only point here? blank -
I'm very inexperienced, so take this with a grain of salt, but I see nearly every jumper practice EP's regularly at my dropzone. Along with pin checks, EP's are drilled before boarding, during the climb, and just before exit. Maybe it's just the culture of safety bred there, but as a new jumper (without a chop), seeing everyone doing it certainly helps to develop the routine. blank

Yeah that's basically what's going on. Pretty sure they're vector risers but on a G4, puts the ring on the outside left as opposed to the inside right. It's not being jumped yet and I have mirage risers organised. Obviously factory spec, as tested is a more fail safe route, but I was just more interested in the RSL being outside causing problems you otherwise wouldn't face if it were on the inside. blank

Hey guys, quick question, is there anything inherently wrong with having the RSL on the outside of the riser? Apart from adjusting EP drills and ensuring the routing is correct, is it ok? I did a quick search but couldn't really find much info... Cheers blank

My exact thoughts. Don't come to my dz. [This is only a side topic for this thread] Guess you guys' DZ's doesn't care about decent horizontal separation. How can he make things worse than normal? If he pulls low, he's safely away from others. If he pulls high, well plenty of noobs pull way high anyway. If flies up jump run, well, he could do something dumb like that at 'normal' altitudes. If the next jumpers are closing the gap horizontally, then a higher pull reduces the time available for them to do that, so that's a benefit. Heck, if he pulls 10 seconds out the door, its almost impossible anyone else on the load could conflict with him (by removing any horizontal separation so quickly), so a really high pull would be safer. Anyway, maybe you can think of some scenario I wasn't thinking of. But jumping without an alti once doesn't seem like a huge crime. Yeah the chances of something going awry involving others is slim, maybe he backslides up jump run, pulls low while other canopies are slotting into pattern... idk. Considering how much precaution we take to mitigate problems, knowing you havent got an essential piece of gear before you jump just highlights a general disregard of safety. But I'm a noob... so... :p blank -

Did you ever consider how jumping with out an altimeter could kill the people jumping after you? And when you say "don't try it at home" why wouldn't you heed your own advice? I understand after 50 jumps you have the whole sport dialed, but just realize your actions can kill someone else. My exact thoughts. Don't come to my dz. blank -
The data presented at the link is incomplete enough to be misleading. Their data for skydiving is easy enough to understand, as it makes sense that it is per jump. But it gets somewhat ambiguous for activities like football, canoeing, or hiking. Let's take canoeing for instance. The data says 1:10,000, but it doesn't say in 10,000 what. Is this per year? Per trip? Per hour? Skydiving is per jump, so figure that's the risk for about 5 minutes skydiving. Data from American Whitewater puts the risk of mortality from whitewater boating's most deadly year (1998) at 1.15 for every 100,000 user days. Which means 1 person dies for every 87,000 days spent boating. So let's translate that to skydiving. 1 jump is statistically safer than a whole day spent on whitewater (not by much, 1:87,000 vs. 1:100,000(according to the infographic at the link)). But if you, like most skydivers, usually go for 5 or more in a day's jumping, than a days jumping becomes a little more dangerous than spending the day on the river. Not by a whole lot for this example, but the same issue exists with the data for most the activities on that awful little infographic, so it ends up being pretty misleading when it comes to some fairly benign activities like hiking or driving. I plan to do it at the Nagambie dropzone, 1 hour north of Melbourne (Australia) . It is where i did my tandem jumps, i felt comfortable with the guys there and hve heard pretty good reviews about the place - and its really close to home Anybody else jump at Nagambie ? I think Don was the name of the guy who i jumped with - head honcho there i think... Cheers Guys blank

Hey guys and gals ( i must be politically correct haha) Just signed up. Im very new to Skydiving, having only done 2 tandom jumps, but as you could guess - im hooked. I plan to go for AFF and A lincense etc as soon as i get home from my overseas trip (in February). Cant wait! the forum looks good and i hope to get lots of useful info out of it - cheers people!
