  1. That makes sense. I can visualize exactly what you mean in regards to problems with the ring being on the outside and running under the reserve risers and the potential hangup that can occur. In my case the ring is on the inside and the velcro runs down the back of of the reserve riser and goes directly to the pin. I was confused as to if there was a problem with it being routed behind the riser because looking at it I couldn't see anything functionally wrong with it and wanted clarification. This helped.
  2. I've got an Aerodyne rig that has the RSL routed behind the reserve risers. It even has a strip of velcro going vertically down the riser and a strip going across to attach it to. Is this wrong?
  3. Thank you for your responses. I ended up speaking to a rigger about it before I jumped it today. He said not to worry about it as it was only in the back seat of the car in the sun for a short time and my garage didn't get hot enough to cause any problems. It is due for a repack soon anyway so I dropped it off for an I&R as well.
  4. Recently, on a hot day I left my rig in the backseat of my car while it was parked in a parking lot in the sunlight. I probably had my car parked for an hour at the most before driving home. Once I got home I parked my car in the garage and left my rig in the backseat forgetting about it until I got back in my car the next day. My garage is always noticeably cooler then it is outside but it can still get a little warm inside the car. In both instances the rig was inside a gear bag the whole time. Is this something I should be worried about? I'm guessing it would take quite a bit of heat exposure cause problems with the reserve but I'm not sure. I normally take good care of my rig. I was pretty pissed at myself when I noticed the gear bag in my back seat the next day.
  5. I just got a $2200 pay off from my car insurance company for a wrecked car and am possibly in the market for my first rig. I am looking for something freefly friendly, with a cypres, 210 main and comparable reserve. I weigh around 175 lbs give or take and am about 5'10" tall. Is it possible to find something like this in the $2000-$2500 price range or should I just wait a few months until I can save a little more and then start looking? One option I was looking at was getting a new container and then getting the canopies and AAD seperatly figuring by the time the container got to me I would have saved enough to pick up the rest but if I can find something reasonable that will fit me I'm all for it. I've been looking on the classifieds here daily and ebay as well but I'm really wary about dealing with Ebay. I would rather deal with somebody one on one. Any ideas, suggestions? Thanks.
  6. Looks like I can be there until late Friday afternoon and possibly be there early on Saturday as well.
  7. Cool I only have a few more things to get signed off on my proficiency card so I will have my "A" by then, I can come down on Wednesday and on Thursday be their most of the day and come back at night possibly and leave Friday morning/afternoon. I could even be there all week as long as planes are turning. In the other thread it mentions that someone just has to be off student status to jump does that mean somoene who is cleared for solo can jump? If so, can they just do solos or are their coaches/instructors to jump with them. I may be meeting somebody down their who will not have an "A" but be on solo status. I'm also going to coming into Jacksonville around 6 is it kosher for me to show up at whatever place I'm going to be jumping at the next day around 8 and just set up a tent or should I wait until Monday morning to do all that?
  8. Unfortunately, I dont' think I'll be able to make the thing at Palatka since it starts on Thursday. I have to pick people up from Jacksonville Thursday night and was planning on going to Tampa. I could show up their in the day and then drive Jacksonville and maybe come back and not go to Tampa hmmm..... Will their be suitable gear to rent for a barely "A" licensed jumper who is still jumping the big boat canopies?
  9. I'm going to be out around the Gainesville area for a week in Oct (Oct22-Oct30). I should have my "A" license by then and I am planning on doing some jumping between the 23rd and the 26th. I noticed that there quite a few different DZs all within an hour or two from where I will be. Which of these DZs will be open during the week and flying loads on the weekdays and are good places for someone with low jump jumpers who has to rent gear to jump at? I want to be able to do 3-4 jumps a day if possible. I've been looking at Z-Hills and Space Center and am leaning towards Z-Hills but if these place aren't jumping I would rather go to one that is. I know that Nationals are going on in Eloy on these same days. Will that have an big effect on the number of people at the DZ's to get the planes up? Thanks.
  10. I'm going to be starting AFF soon. I was going to start in July but I just got a raise so my financial situation may allow me to start as early as next week
  11. Well I went, it was pretty awesome, and was not cold at all(well, it was but I didn't really notice). I'm not sure if I got much sleep the night before because all I could remember was being awake going from feeling nervous to excited like when your a kid and your going to Disneyland for the first time or something and can't sleep. When I actually got in the air I was not nervous at all the only thing I had a hard time with was getting my foot on the step because the wind was so fast. As far as the freefall goes I was far more intrigued then anything just looking trying to make sense of the situation and then realizing how fast I was going before the chute opened. It's interesting how a 30 second freefall can seem like 2 seconds. I'm for sure going again in a few weeks with a friend who is going to be doing his first jump. I'm probably going to go out to Perris this time since it's only an hour or so from where I live in San Diego and looks like an awesome place
