  1. Shark (Mark), Marie and AC are all from Elsinore. Both DZs have great AFF Is and great RW or freefly coaches alike.
  2. I understand what you are getting at, but do you really believe that AFFIs at both Perris and Elsinore rarely tunnel? I was in the tube with Skylord last night. AC had a couple after me, while Marie (DippyMoo) took a student for an early morning skyventure. Edited: I can understand if your DZ is not in proximity to a VWT, so an option would be to use tunnel coaches. Our students know that the VWT is a part of the learning syllabus. We often recommend tunnel time whether the student is having issues or not.
  3. Drinking beer at 6500' is cool, too!

    Top Gun??

Looks cool, but also looks "NOLO." Seen the FA18 fly and IIRC it costs $400k?! I may be off by a zero or two.
  5. I haven't done any of the Tunnel Leagues this time. I was sick and didn't fly for about a month! Are you flying in Tunnel League, Mark? I don't think that I am going to do it because I could always do it next season and can do it more than just one week, but I want to watch it, especially Open division. Probably not. I tried to schedule it in, but work has been getting in the way. Hence, the girls calling me a tunnel flake. Bottom line is that the competition has scared me away. I make a better spectator.
  6. When I'm in the tube with a student, I like to think that the tunnel instructor (rat) and I are a team. I can concentrate more on correcting the students body position while they are in there for safety. In fact, I think the guy or girl in the booth is an integral part of the team as well. I've had a student who was ground bound because of weather. We did the FJC, then decided after a week to do the 15 minutes in the tunnel. After the 2nd session he was able to have great hover control and do great 360s while stopping on heading. These were 2.5 minute sessions. When we finally jumped he was so stable the level 2 was practically a release dive. Other than the exits he was flying very, very well. I was concerned with his altitude awareness, but that wasn't an issue as I have him do "altimeter checks" after each manuever or every few seconds in the tube.
  7. Wait, isn't there a party at Elsinore that night? I am debating whether to go to Elsinore or to the tunnel on Saturday night. You are supposed to party before Tunnel League!!!!
  8. Yeah, don't forget The Gravity Games! Then Tunnel League Saturday night.
  9. I hope it gets to you in time! BTW, you might want to have some shipped down to TX, too!

    Top Gun??

And one of my all time favorite movies...I wasn't trying to knock it. I wasn't trying to knock you, either. To the fighter community it's kinda like Drop Zone or Cutaway.
  11. Idiots are everywhere. ....and some where bars and stars. Do you mean "wear" bars and stars? See what I mean?! I wore bars at one time. No, I cannot blame the beer at lunch time.

    Top Gun??

Did you know that he is the original Viper and a Mig Killer in Nam? Did you know that the bar scene serenade was not filmed at the "O" club, but filmed at a club called "The Roxy?" Did you know the inspiration for the movie was taken from Duke Cunningham's career? Yep, same Duke, congressman from California. Dude, it's Hollywood! I know several of the pilots. They had some good laughs and a lot of fun.
  13. Hey Bill, I think the same should be true for somebody shooting accuracy. I've see some newbie B license holders sashaying and holding in deep brakes to shoot the peas while there are other groups flying in the pattern behind them. I remind them of pattern etiquette, discipline and safety. Shark

    Knights DVD

If it wasn't free they'd bitch that it should be. I got some video, I think called "GK 2000" which was very cool. I'm putting in my order for the DVD, too!
  15. The tunnel rats are good friends, superb fliers, and several are AFFIs. (SVP) I have total trust in them to fly with my AFF students, however I'm just over the hill and will go with them myself when I can. It's my job. Getting back to the original question of will it help a student pass Level 4? Probably, but it's only half the picture. If the student cannot fly a simple landing pattern under canopy and/or lands downwind or on top of a building, the student has not met ALL of the performance objectives in order to progress to the next level. I doubt many instructors would sign off on a student to solo whom couldn't fly a basic pattern, nor land without JM assistance.

  17. My Neptune has "swoop" alarms which only confirm my altitude sight picture.
  18. To all my friends and citizens of the UK, you are in my thoughts and prayers. The perpetrators will soon receive some British steel.
  19. Ever wonder why so many 4 way freaks wear goggles with their Oxygn A3s? Get the Mamba. Made locally, too.
  20. Bet everyone remembered to wear their gloves, too.... ltdiver Yeah, it has been pretty cold this week.
  21. I disagree with this statement. Just because someone is AFF qualified does NOT mean that person is also qualified to teach anything in a wind tunnel. True. That is why Perris (for example) uses only tunnel trained AFFI's to work with their students in the tunnel. This not only allows the student to progress the way the school wants (body position, hand signals, etc) but also can instill confidence in the student when he's able to use the same instructor to transition into the sky later in the day. ltdiver As does Elsinore.
  22. You wanna pay for the price difference? atleast I'm not the only one that thinks that!!! Ya get what ya pay for mine was free, does that make it less valuable than your $5000 dollar rig?
  23. I bet Dug actually had to wear a helmet.
