granted, i have only jumped at Elsinore, i love it there. the people are great, and a large landing area for beginers, goot thing too... but thats another story. .. the one time i did go down to perris, to buy my helmet, i was a bit intimidated by the size, after being at elsinore. .. but perris does have that wind tunnel... those animations sure did help me know what was coming next, and the videos of each level jump they have halp too. with the sit exit, i think they did that to help with the back flip? when i did my l7 there, they had me do that and go directly to backflip from it. You will get ground training that will prepare you for malfuntions. I have 3 more jumps to get my A, and i do a few things on the ground, and plane before each jump, check my 3's .. three rings, chest strap, leg straps, as well as, placing my hand on my pc, cutaway, and reserv. I will do that during ascent, and as i am getting to the door of the otter. Is it bad that when i read bowling, the picture that came to mind was something like... and i know this is strange, and pobly possible, but i'm too new to know.... A 10 way, in the shape of a triangle. and another jumper, exits after, goes into a cannonball toward the 10way, and as he gets closer, the 10way breaks off like the bowling ball hits the pins. haha. that would be cool to see. After reading about stalls in SIM, i had asked one of my instructers about it, what it looks like and such, he told me that it would be nearly impossible to stall the canapy i was under using breaks, but possibly would stall with rear risers. *good thing at this point i didnt have any experience with rear riser controls, or i probly would have tried it. .. now, when i learned about rear riser control, i had been having fun witht them. butg one time, i pulled both to a flare, felt a sudden change in my velocity, looked up at my canopy and saw what the begining of a stall looks like. seeing the tail going under the rest of the canopy scared me, so i quickly let up the risers and was relieved when i finally felt the canapy acting 'normal'. .. thats my story. I agree with both sides on this, i think it is crazy for us newbies to be trying to intentionally stall, but at the same time, i think it is an important thing to experience/know how to handle early on so it does not surprise you later. I'm not saying i dont have any fear, it still strikes me now and then.. but dang, i must really really love jumping out of planes.. cause when i am going down to the dz, I am so anxious to get htere I am swerving in and out of traffic, going as fast as i can, constantly staring at the sky, telling the one cloud i see to get the f**& out of there. i heard once, that we are born with the fear of loud noise, and FALLING, well, this sport takes falling to the extream. I think the tandem idea is a good one, also, possibly look online for some ways to do self meditation, do one before you get in your car, another at the dz, and just relax.*** (i used to do something similar before marching band competitions) . Well, i wouldnt say I jump out f a 'perfectly good' airplane... but i do jump out. I am not sure i will ever consider myself a skydiver, yes, i participate in the sport of skydiving, but i think i am more of a ... prefessional faller. but then, by no means do i consider myself a preofessional at falling yet. maybe a few thousand jumps from now? ohhh, i just drained my skydiving fund i keep, payed for 2 coach jumps, grad jump, 5 solo, and packing class. *looks at his bank account* darn, going without dinner again.. no wait, thank God i work at Disneyland foods.
