Thefirst time I ever met him, I showed up at the DZ right as the first load was landing....I was walking out in the landing area to take a look around an unfamiliar place and he swooped right next to me and I mean RIGHT NEXT TO ME with a big ass grin on his face and said good morning as he sailed by me at mock 5....................fly free......

  3. Chris was the first person I ever jumped with, wasn't even off of student status yet....we walked to mock up together talking, he asked if I could fall fast on my belly...I said yes. He said "ok, cool, I will follow you out the plan". It also was my "pack n jump it" jump so I was nervous...chris was going from sit to head in front of me and took my mind TOTALLY off my nerves!!!! SO COOL!!!!!

Kelly, in part if it hadn't been for you Chris might have been gone long before this. You are an angel and are loved!!!!!!

Heart felt embraces to you and Chris's family.......

  5. Just to let everyone know,

We are offering for the month of May 50% off the retail BASE RATE ONLY. This DOES NOT include options to all military (active or retired) police officers, fire fighters and EMT's as our way of saying THANKS for helping to keep us safe!!!!!

I wish we could afford to offer 50% off the options too, but a girl has gotta eat too!

Contact your nearest dealer or if in the USA, you may contact Sunrise directly, although we prefer if you go through your local/nearest dealer. There will be no difference in price whether you go through us or a dealer and this discount can apply to our already running special on stock rigs.

Of course the monthly special applies as well and that include FREE cut in laterals, a savings of $150

Since this was posted in here I wanted to make sure that people have the correct information. Thanks!

Or is this because of something like the Pilot packs bigger than other canopies, so a 150 Pilot is equivalent to the 170 sized main that they used for this chart?

That would be correct. ALL canopies vary in size, even sometimes the exact same type and size of canopy from the same manufacturer. I have a pilot 168 and my container fits a sabre 190. My pilot fits in there nicely.

It can make it difficult to size containers and a 150 sabre may fit in one container perfectly and another 150 sabre may be tight in the exact same container. Unfortunately this chart isn't a set rule and it doesn't always work but that is the general rule of thumb. Pack volumes can and do vary.

Peoples preferences can and do vary. Some like tight pack jobs and containers, some prefer a looser pack jobs and care less about the "look" of the container. Unfortunately we don't know that unless it is specified on the order form but when specified we do our best to accommodate the request, otherwise we do what seems to work in most cases.

We welcome any feedback, especially from riggers, about canopy sizing as that is the best way to get good info, especially with all the newer canopies and European manufacturers out there that we have little or no experience packing.

have to brag about the customer service I got from Scarlett at Sunrise. She went out of her way to help with the insurance and even though they didn't pay enough to cover the rig she stepped up and offered me a 50% off coupon to order an new one!!!! I was thinking about other manufacturers but not now. They have a customer for life.

    GO WINGS!!!

    Thanks Scarlett!!!

  16. The usual cost is approximately $21 give or take a buck or two at most DZ's.

Not trying to be an ass here, but with the current economic climate, I think that anything that a DZ or manufacturer is willing to do that is "free" or cheaper should be applauded as times are tough for alot of people and skydiving isn't exactly a neccessity.

Let's face it, if things continue on a downward trend, god forbid tandems slow down as people can't afford them anymore, we will either not be skydiving at all or DZ's that don't close down will become cessna DZ's.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth............

I made over 500 jumps without any AAD, back in the seventies. We didn't consider them to be safe or reliable in those days. Those were also the days when "no pull / low pull" was the leading cause of death in the sport.

I'm even more surprised at your question after what happened last weekend at your home dropzone, where a highly experienced and respected skydiver died after being unable to pull his reserve handle after a cutaway. The reason may never be known, as only he really knew what went wrong. He had made an informed decision to jump without his AAD while it was away for its 8 year service. I'm sure he considered and weighed the risks and made a not unreasonable decision to jump without it for the month it usually takes to get the job done. Lots of people make the same decision with no adverse consequences.

    Tragically, he guessed wrong.

I'm saying this as respectfully as possible, because I know how much pain this has caused everyone, as the memorial service was only held yesterday.

But thankfully, accidents like Shindig's are now a rare occurence thanks to AADs. In the old days we knew far too many good skydivers - and wonderful people - who died this way. I can think of several I knew myself, right here in So Cal (Tom DeMotts, Glory Severt, and jeanni McCombs, to name three right off the top of my head). And I'm VERY please that this type of fatality has ALMOST entirely disappeared. At least now we can focus on how not to do ourselves in under an open canopy.

As we go sailing out the door at altitude, none of us ever knows, "This is the jump where I will need my AAD". Most of us will hopefully never face that jump at all. The rest of us can either thank God we were wearing one that day, or leave our friends and family in a lot of pain and with questions that may never be answered.

WELL SAID!!!!!! I had this "argument" with someone at my DZ that sold their cypress to pay rent. They looked me straight in the face and said "if you feel you need a cypress then you shouldn't be skydiving". I looked them straight in the face and said "I'll remember to put that on your epitaph at your funeral"

They are a personal choice, but one that if needed was most assuredly needed!!! We are but human and prone to mistakes, let alone the fact that we can't control others who are in the air with us................

  21. What amazes me here is that everyone is going around in circles trying to prove a point. I think that the most important thing to remember is that what happened to Rick is a terrible accident, but it goes to show that anything can happen to anyone at anytime, no matter how good you are, how careful or how many safety devices that you have or don't have!

    Statistics are just that, #'s
Anything can happen up there. So arguing over numbers, speed and barometric pressure just seems pointless. The bottom line is you AND YOUR GEAR can do everything right and you can still die..........

replied in kind with two video clips of swoops not gone bad xenaswampjumper, You broke your leg under a lightly loaded canopy. A friend of mine broke her femur under a lightly loaded canopy 2 weeks ago at Zhills.

Those two incidents had less to do with lightly loaded canopies and almost everything to do with two people that had NO BUSINESS being in the sky.......had I listened to others advice......I would not have broken my leg and your other friend should not have been in the air that day, the weather was bad and turbulent.......stupid hurts [:/]

edited to add that my canopy loading that day was slightly more than 1:1, so I would not consider that too lightly loaded and I am not sure exactly on her's, but the winds were up and so was the turbulence and the jump numbers low on both days......I didn't heed the advice given to me....I do now..............
