  1. WTF? Can you elaborate? Sounds pretty fucked up. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  2. That is why they get more concerened rather than equally concerned? Debateable, but yes obviously some context might be required. A store owner torturing a shoplifter to death would obviously be a more serious offence than the shoplifting. That said, if a serial rapist out on day parole for the umpteenth time gets attacked by a mob and sustains multiple broken bones I expect the cops to ask themselves if these vigilantes really represent that much of a threat to the public. I am sure you can point out extremes but the perception is that for two equal crimes, the one carried out by a vigilante will get more attention. No I'm upset that when a decent human being gets hurt they are in effect told to "take a number" yet if one of the bad guys gets hurt the system dedicates it's efforts all of a sudden. Resorting to the straw man are we? I want the system to remind itself that most vigilantes who take the law into their own hands are usually decent people reacting to extreme circumstances, while criminals simply do it for amusement or profit. Who is the worse threat? If a man beat the shit out of someone who molested his daughter I will not fear him moving into my neighborhood since he is not likely to be a threat to the average person but if the pedophile moved into my neighborhood I would be afraid for my family. The law should try to factor in the long run effect. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  3. True and it amazes me how quickly people will condemn a doctor for being merely human. Had a tendon cut on a job and the emergency room doctor made a mistake that cuased some pain and discomfort almost a year later which resulted in a second surgury (where the next doctor confirmed that the first doctor had in fact fucked up). I had some pain, didn't miss work because I did graveyard shifts so I went for surgury in the morning. I could not beleive how many people were insisting that I sue this poor guy becuase he made a mistake that merely cost me some minor pain, inconvenience and some time in a bandage and stitches. It never crossed my mind. If he had been drunk on duty or consciously did something that he knew was wrong and caused me real losses then yes but I could not fathom that everyone felt I should sue the guy over this. 4. But that doesn't address the question. Why is it that the only time the justice system takes an interest in aggressively enforcing the law is when a good guy hurts a bad guy, and then goes back to business as usual when we go back to just having bad guys hurt good guys. There should be somne consistency I would hope. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  5. Well everyone knows that's different. She's training him. If that happens you tell your son how proud of him you are, take him to the nudie bar and buy him a beer. 6. I do not agree with that. While I am a big fan of making education attainable for all income brackets since society benefits from it, I do not see how those things are a direct obligation of the government. I do feel the government has the responsibility to try to set the economy up so people have the best opportunity to do that for themselves. I like the idea of having social systems for those who are SOL but once you start looking at it as an entitlement you end up getting all kinds of abusers like up here in Canada. 7. No just comapring my emergency room experiences in this country to the emergency room experiences in others. Went to Saint Michaels for dizziness nausea and chest pains (my boss insisted) and still had to wait for several hours. Maybe you have just had some outlier experiences here because I have not seen our system to be the utopia it is frequently made out to be. Oh by the way, if ever you are having chest pains and it is not a heart attack don't say anything because they overreact, want to hook you up to all kinds of shit and take a trillion tests My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  8. OK it's not quite that bad. We can own guns we simply haver a shitload of irritating restrictions, like if a burglar comes into my house I have to unlock my gun locker, then take the trigger lock off and then get the ammo which has to be stored in a seperate location before he can kill me. We also have dumb limitations on pistol capacity (5 round mags) and assault rifles became grandfathered prohibited. No concealed carry law (just scream at a 911 recording as you die) because apparently we are being protected from ourselves and.......Fuck it you're right....it is that bad up here. 9. I am not sure when you last came up here for health care, but to even get a family doctor I was on a wait list for almost a year. Our system is far from perfect. 10. I seem to recall you mentioning this in a prior discussion on this very topic, and yes that is a grotesque abuse of what the law was intended for. That said I don't think we should get rid of something because it was managed wrong. If the law is used in the manner in which it should be then the registry can be an effective tool to help parents safegaurd their children. 12. Then they need to implement the law better but that does not change the fact that we should be told if a sex offender is movig into our neighborhood. Knowing that in advance can prevent him from harming anyone My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  13. Why? Do you know what happens to pretty boys like that in prison? I hope you are right. My fear is that all they really have him on is disposing of a body not murder. He can pull some chickenshit story about her OD'ing on drugs she took voluntarily and how he panicked and disposed of the body. His rich parents get a good lawyer and who knows what it might get knocked down to (actually i guess you know being a lawyer and hopefully you will tell me i have a vivid imagination). 14. Just a hunch, maybe there is some truth to his story (the part about her suddenly convulsing and dying presumably as a reaction to a drug). Maybe he used date rape drug and accidentally killed her. He comes across as the selfish sort of asshole that would drug a girl. Upon realizing that he fucked up and killed her, instead of manning up and facing the music, or trying desperately to revive her while dialing 911 he looked out for his own needs and disposed of the body. Either way he is a sick peice of dogshit and should be put away for life. 15. To the best of my knowledge they do not inform people every time a felon moves into their neighborhood. It is usually if the guy is a sex offender since they have high re-offending risk. A criminal who has done his time and is not likely going to be a risk to me and my family will not concern me. If I had children I would want to know if the man moving in 2 doors down has a history of hurting little girls or boys. I would not seek a confrontation but I would be better equipped to prevent an incident if I knew about him in advance. I understant the principle of second chances but given the rates of re-offence amongst pedophiles, my right to adequately protect my family should supercede his right to privacy My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  16. I would not be concerned if some guy who shoots pedophiles moved into my neighborhood My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  17. I am not saying that I don't see it as wong. Why wait untill a good guy strikes back before saying "lets do our job properly"? Why not take that approach from the outset (when the bad guy first strikes) and people may not feel the need to go vigilante. By suddenly getting all gung ho to arrest the instant someone goes vigilante they are showing they can aggressively investigate to arrest, so there is no reason not to do that from the outset. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  18. In California just using the information from the sex offender database to commit a crime or harrass a registered offender is a crime itself punishable by jail time. This was written on a note I've received once. Wouldn't surprise me. At the end of the day, I would not advocate going out with the intent of playing vigilante even though I can understand how the parent of a victim will want to. I just feel bothered by the fact that the law seems to place more emphasis on protecting criminals than citizens as is evidenced by their apparent willingness to suddenly do their job once a good guy hurts a bad guy. Either way, if one moves into your neighborhood the best thing to do is keep a close eye on him and coordinate with the other neighbors. 19. People in general are filthy today. Show up to class without showering, don't wash their hands after going to the toilet, and far too many people today dig into their nose (not full plunge, just rim cleaning) and then proceed to carry on without washing their hands. Our society has lost it's respect for sanitary hygenic behaviour. Time to start teaching the basics again at kindergarten. Also have you noticed that people in general do not bother covering their mouth anymore when they cough or sneeze? 20. Pretty much every thing I say here is what I would say in person or at the drop zone. At school/work I am much more reserved in my commentary. My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  21. I'm not saying that he did nothing illegal. My concern is that it at least appears to me that hurting a criminal is taken more seriously than the criminal hurting an innocent. 22. But the general impression I get is that they wouldn't have to go that far to get more police attention. Even if they only beat the crap out of the guy and broke a few bones I suspect the cops might take a harder line on that. There was a case in BC where a store owner committed stat rape on a young girl that worked in his store. He got some wishy-washy probation sentence and when the father walked up to him with a bat and nailed him (not fatally) he did prison time and then the guy sued him ( It was a long tima ago so please don't ask for the link, it did happen) My biggest handicap is that sometimes the hole in the front of my head operates a tad bit faster than the grey matter contained within.
  23. Maybe you're lactose intolerant No, no. I POOP TOO MUCH. Then I get tired. I'm mostly going to be doing the slots...... 24. Why?????? Vigilantism is against the law too. Police do not like having their work done for them. Even with that said, you can still get a jury trial and a good lawyer if you can afford one, who can then spin the case in your favor in front of a jury that just might see it your way. I'm not going to do it though. Understood, but which crime merits more effort on the part of the police? No two crimes are equal and thus the worst of the two crimes should get a larger share of the police resources allocated to them. I have only heard/seen anecdotes of what Warpedskydiver said but I have been left with that impression whenever a case like this hits the media. For example lets go back as far as the Bernard Goetz incedent. What he did was against the law and I accept that, but people got shot, stabbed mangled ...etc every day in New York. Why all of a sudden did it become a huge priority with media attention and the resources of the entire police force (which is what they said at the time) being put into finding some guy who just had enough and hot a few bad guys? If some innocent guys had walked down the wrong street in the ghetto and been shot would there have been as much effort?
