  1. I'd be paraphrasing, but I will get the quotes that I am looking for on line if I can - I don't have my copy of A Brief History of Time, I haven't read it in years. I do remember that there were some issues I had with how it was all tied to gether. While A Brief History of Time is a good book, it's basically physics for dummies (unlike the for dummies series, however, it's well written.) If you are going to disagree with Hawking's conclusions, you'd have to actually look at his technical papers rather than his "putting physics into words for middle schoolers." Science books written like that, while interesting, run the risk of oversimplifying so that the masses can understand. Personally, I can't think of anything that I disagreed with, but there are plenty of things that Hawking has written/said that I just don't freaking understand! More physics for dummies, please! 4. Since spending nearly a year in Detroit, I have met and worked with many folks of the Muslim faith. As I had suspected, it's pretty similar to working with/knowing folks of the Christian/Hindu/Jewish faiths. Most people are decent and get outraged by the things that people in their faith do. Most Muslims are outraged by 9/11 (see here: http://muslimmedianetwork.com/mmn/?p=6771). Most Christians are outraged by abortion clinic bombings, gay bashings, priest molestings, etc. Do I have the statistical analysis to show that everywhere people are people? No. But I also try not to make assumptions for an incredibly large population based on the actions of a few. If the guy wants to burn the Quran, go for it. It won't really do anything, and he puts himself up for risk for an opposing "Burn the Bible" Day, which rolls off the tongue much better. 5. I haven't seen this posted in Speakers Corner yet: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2010/09/07/2010-09-07_tea_party_president_in_montana_tim_ravndal_kicked_out_after_posting_antigay_comm.html?r=news I gotta say... you would think that the Tea Party would try to have leaders that understand the technology behind "print screen." 7. Let's not forget that atheists are much better looking, too. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  8. It's tough to be open about being an atheist, and I'm happy that people like Richard Dawkins and Julia Sweeney make atheism less scary. I still can't tell my 83 year old grandfather that I will not be attending church on Sundays because I do not believe in god. The bitch inside me wants to scream "There is no god!" when he nags for me to go to church. I'm a pansy, so I just say, "No, thanks," and keep the peace. Outside of my family, as long as people keep their religion to themselves, I will keep the lack of mine to myself. I don't come across many people from organized religions trying to push their beliefs on me...I get it more from the "new age" movement that try to bastardize science and use it as their beliefs. All that being said, as long as there are assholes like Ted Haggard, a few loud mouths from the other side doesn't seem like such a bad thing. 9. I actually just put my netflix account on hold right before we got the mifi. Netflix worked really well with the verizon aircard I had before, though. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  10. Funny you should ask because I'm using it right now
  11. I'm biased because I've loved Mike since the first season of the Ultimate Fighter, but great video! The only parts that I would consider cutting out are the shaky camera scenes (the plane before take off and walking back.) Also, I think Mike should consider me to adjust his harness in the future.

Looks like my mom and I are heading to Toronto for a weekend within the next few weeks. Does anyone have recommendations on things we must do while there? Thanks! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  15. I'll be there, and I'm going to try to make at least 6 jumps this year!
  16. Never jump when you don't feel comfortable in doing so. That being said, there is a huge difference between doing something just outside of your comfort level and just not wanting to make that particular jump. If something doesn't "feel right" because of winds/clouds/your mental state/whatever, stay on the ground. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  17. Wait a minute...where are they from? They must be the great-great-great grandkids from this group: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indiana_Pi_Bill I guess that there is some comfort in the fact that while people might change, science doesn't. 18. (In this thread late, and I know you already went, but I always love throwing in my two cents!) The staff at CO is so freaking great! I don't think you could go wrong with any of those guys! I had both Zach and Derek as coaches, and I'm truly impressed with how effectively they both taught me. Tunnel time is expensive, and the most important thing for me is that I learn as much as I can while I'm in there. Both of those guys had me flying so much better than when I had started, and they're both really nice and fun to fly with. I can't say enough good things about that place or about those guys!!!!! 22. Just that much more to spank! Thanks everyone else for your input! I'm sure everyone at work is loving the tunnel video, too! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  23. I struggled with the same thing as your friend did awhile ago. I had hung out with this guy a few times at a friend's apartment. We had some stuff in common, and he was pretty nice. We ended up making out one of those times (no sex at all), and he asked for my number. It took him about two months to text me. I couldn't for the life of me get it. I'm not saying that I'm the sh*t or anything, but he was, in every aspect, George Costanza (okay, he wasn't balding yet.) I never thought it would turn into a long-term relationship, but I was shocked that he hadn't called. In general, I don't give out my number/take number from people when the intent is not to use it, so I don't understand people that do. Like most people, I've been on both sides of the fence when it comes to chemistry. I've thought it was great, and they must not have. I thought it was meh, but they thought it was great. Often times it's not due to someone's "skill," it just doesn't click for some reason. There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  24. I'm too busy smokin' in the girls' room for that searching thread crap! Thanks!!! Yeah, but it's much easier in the sky when you don't have to worry about staying lifted off of a net!!! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
  25. I just got finished with some freeflying in the Colorado tunnel with the very kickass coach Zach. While I'm sitting at the airport watching my embarrassing video, I've noticed several themes and just wondering if anyone else had similar issues. First, when I'm sitflying, I have a tendency to have my butt lower than my knees. Is this due to size of said butt? It got better as time went along, but I still had a tendency to do that. Many times when trying to push my legs down, I'd get all wobbly, move forward, and just end up corking out. Also, unless I turn at the pace that my great-grandmother moved in her walker, my butt most definitely sinks out. I could feel that it was wrong, but I just couldn't freaking fix it. Second, how the f*** do you move backwards? Everything coach said made sense, but whenever I would try, I would just end up all over the place. Backwards = bad. The last session or two, I just gave up trying to go backwards for my own sanity's sake. Last, is there good video of freefly progression in the tunnel? Thanks, y'all. It's time to watch more video of my flailing! There's a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning
