  1. Congrats to all jumpers, the pics look great!

    Does anyone have details on what criteria were used? I've missed all the personal bs that's been going around but am honestly just curious as I was a member if the last record jump that couldn't make it this time. It doesn't look like it fits the grid, yet the posts from the event mentioned waiting on the judges ruling, so I was interested in how/what they were judging?

  2. I got the opposite side of the luck spectrum. Today my vacation was officially cancelled. Pissed. Was really looking forward to a good start to the season. hope everybody has a great time.

  3. yes to both questions. I just picked up my flysight but havent had a chance to jump it yet. I've got a flatlock for my camera, but have rigged up my old gps on my ring sight, still havent decided what to do for the flysight.

  5. went out on a limb and booked my flights before they approved my vacation time, hoping it all works out. Cant wait, I get in I think around7:30pm on April 12th. Anyone else inbound to Tampa around that time? looking for options to the dz.

    remember too that wingsuits flap less and less these days. subtle cloth vibration is cool, but watching a lot of pf's new stuff as well as tonysuits, they lock in pretty solid, and only have some flap when your shutting down your wings a bit to get down.

    you have the gps data - but are too exhausted to post it (or maybe you were too exhausted after completing the suit to get the gps data in the first place?)

    you want to have a side by side comparison - but you cant lend out your suit and don't jump yourself anymore.

    the prototype is so dangerous because of its awesomeness that its not safe enough for anyone to fly no matter their experience. (I think this one is my favorite. )

    are you surprised that people want to see a gps track? do you think its unfair that you'd have to provide one to support the claims of your suit?

    I guess I can understand being hounded for that kind of stuff to be a pain, but its hard to think that a simple gps track would be so hard when it would solve so many of the questions being asked.

  9. we did it in peperell last year. I was rear float on the otter, and it was actually pretty cool to look up into the tail of the casa and see Justin hanging out on the ramp.

    We put the otter low and to the right of the casa, so I had a clear view. I was the key for ou aircraft and I just left when I saw justin jump. I seem to remember it went pretty smooth, probably just not enough tailgate aircraft for it to happen that often.

    we also had to do a staggered take off and a meet at altitude as they had different climb rates.

  10. its been close many times before. Hell at the last bigway we had a jumper get knocked out by a collision and have a cypress save. This actually sounds similar, maybe a head vs leg collision?

    watch those approaches guys, its not worth getting there 5 seconds faster

  11. I tried the tracking suits before I went over to wings, and while they made the flight a little twichy while maxing out, falling back to a boxman made it stable again super quick, so I cant see a super high number required to use them.

    On the performance front I was able to get my fallrate in the high 60's while covering a good distance, so I'd definitely say they effect performance.


    To the original post though, right on. Chasing friends though 15,000 puffies remains to this day one of the most rewarding experiences i could ask for.

  12. you know this is going to have to end with a multi discipline 4 way jump at some point in the future. two highly loaded canopies doing crew while "surfing" on some wingsuiters.

  13. I guess I just assumed you'd have a gps on the flyer. As far as future attemps, probably worth its own thread, but I'd say it has to be something that doesnt require this kind of support. Great to get it, but not everyone has two c-17 globemasters on standby. I'd imagine gps loggers are accurate enough now to get one off the flyer. would just have to figure out when to start the track.

    I'm also curious since you mentioned you doing the wind calculations for him if you remembered to put the winds at his back? ;)

  14. still, doesnt it set a precedent that its where you land? with todays gps options I'm suprised there wasnt an ability to do in flight distance tracking.

    For the actual record was there a reason you choose to not use an opboard gps option? was that how previous distance records were recorded?

    still an awesome accomplishment.

  15. yeah thats scary, especially the part after line stretch where its obviously trapped in the burble, it sucks back down to his back and almost wraps him up in the canopy. That thing manages to wrap itself around you in addition to the monster wings you've got on... fuckin bad news. cut away might not even be an option at that point.

    only danger in regards to performance is that its based on the pilot.

    I bet you I could find someone, put them in a vampire 3, and have them not hit a 1.5ld, even though others could hit that tracking.

    so if you attach numbers to it how do you perform performance checks? How do you state what a thing is capable of when it varies from person to person?

    I managed to get into the 60's with a pf tracking suit, but every persons build can change what a suit is capable of.

    the nice thing about the "intent" clause is that it shows its intent is to fly and how it is inherent in the design , (again, restricting things like camera suits)

    your examples of cars I would say point out the problem. Your old school definition of a car would still work, by making the changes you suggest, you're restricting yourself to the cars which pass legal safety tests in order to be driven on public roadways. But if you changed the definition to reflect that, you would knock out all the race cars, or dune buggies, or offroad trucks that still can be produced without such safety equipment. If you leave the definition alone, you can still include all those types. As the car isnt defined by those bits.

    This is about civil discourse and discussion, so I'm happy to discuss the point, and will make room for other people to say their piece, everyone has their own opinion. You asked "should we include safety or cutways in the definition" my answer would be "no"

    Tonysuits is one of the largest current wingsuit makers and they dont *really* have a cutaway. They have got some designed sleeves that allow you access to you risers.

    A lot of suits used to have leg cutaways and have now moved to wing only cutaways. Some intro begginer suits might not have cutaways because the design allows access to risers in the suit.

    No ones stating that safety isn't improtant. I just dont think it belongs in the definition of a wingsuit, as with or without a cutaway, its still a wingsuit.

  19. I think we're starting to move from what is a wingsuit, to what is wingsuiting. This is also why the performace of the wingsuit doesnt really mean anything at this point. Those types of definitions will likely be activity related anyway. is a proximity wingsuiters wingsuit less of a wingsuit if he has smaller wings in order to suck down to the terrain because he's not going for l/d?

    I dont think all suits have cutwaways, so I dont think it'd be appropriate to include it in the definition.

    same thing with pilot ability, doesnt really have any effect on if what your flying is a wingsuit.

    I guess we could include intent in the definition. Might rule out something like a camera suit that while it has wings, forward movement its not its intent?

    A piece of equipment that spans material between a skydiver's arms, torso, and legs, designed for the ability to sustain forward movement through the air using only gravity as propulsion. The skydiver's body forms the majority of the frame for the wings of the suit.


    I dont think it would rule out something like vertical wingsuit flight, as the design of the suit is still primarily to assist in forward flight or movement.
