  1. I've been did about 200-300 a year for awhile then I had a down year or so after the plane crash in 09. I did about 500 a year the past two years so I expect 2-3 years depending on my wife cancer. steveOrino
  2. Keith, I remember you and Brew Dawg jumping with me all the time teaching mecto really skydive and it was all on your own dime. No coach/indtructor fees. Thanks buddy! steveOrino
  3. I made my 3000th jump yesterday on an AFF Cat A with my Buddy Waz. It was fitting. I prefer AFFs and Tandems over fun jumps (except a WS) and it was out of a Cessna where probably 2800 of my jumps have been. If I come to your turbine DZ, don't be surprised if this old fart asks a lot of questions about jumping out of your bird. steveOrino
  4. Thank you. Your flawless reasoning and eloquent delivery have forced me to reconsider my position. Looks like someone has never watched Paul & Rob! Had me laughing Sparky! steveOrino
  5. Makes sense. It 'felt' right. Maybe I should WS with eyes closed steveOrino
  6. Cold is relative I guess. It was 90s. Not sure what temp was at altitude steveOrino
  7. Just did my first WS jump at night this weekend. I jumped out of a Cessna 182 at 10.5K feet. I have 100 or so WS jumps, and 100 or more night jumps. This was the BEST WS jump so far. I only wished I had another WSer with experience that could have flocked with me. I felt so at peace. And I set a PR for slowest speed -- just 62 mph but I'm a tank and I don't jump a giant bed sheet!! Could the night jump help reduce the speed?? steveOrino
  8. A man who has from the beginning states he founded his business found on judeo-christian principles (he even closes his stores on Sunday) and people act surprised he is against gay marriage??? sheesh!!! I didn't eat there on Wednesday -- too crowded. But I did stop by this Friday. steveOrino
  9. Is very obvious you guys have not had close quarter training. Most haven't; I have. I would not run or cover. I would fire and advance to the shooter. I promos you he would not be expecting that! smoke ... big deal! body armor ... a few well placed rounds and he would be down regardless if anything penetrated. On the SF BROTHERS forum ever swing one of them said they would engage. I guess there a lot of us old "fools" steveOrino
  10. I never said everyone with concealed carry permit should fire. I would and so would all ex SF guys posting my question about what would they do said they'd do as we were trained. Return fire and advance on hi position. steveOrino
  11. Do seriously think Green Berets are not trained to fire effectively in dark chaos? Lol! No need to be a hater ;P steveOrino
  12. http://www.whptv.com/news/local/story/Gun-carrying-man-ends-stabbing-spree-at-grocery/KfFgHz9Y5U2ISAIt_52E3g.cspx Hand Gun v. Knife an easy call. Hand Gun v. AR-15 in a darkened theater filled with smoke and panicking people while the shooter is wearing body armor... Come on, these are not equivalent events. Not even remotely close. But that is not what was asked. Can you stop mass murders .... Tear gas, dark, chaos ... Doesn't matter. If you are trained. I'd promise you I could have taken him out steveOrino

  14. I never found my "limit" to # of tandems. I have done 12-15 a day many times out of a Cessna DZ. The limit is imposed by daylight, not my stamina. But heck, I'm only 57 years old. Maybe when I get old, I'll cut back. steveOrino
  15. When I was a camera flyer I bought ONE conceptus switch, every time I bit the through the mouth piece (or any other reason) they'd replace for FREE at least 5-6 times. I had 25000 jumps on my ProTrack I bought 11 years ago. I cracked it (when I had it in my pants) and L&B replaced it for FREE! I cannot think of any service I received anywhere else that even comes close to the service I have received from skydiving companies (Tonysuit, Bev suit, Graviator, L&B, Conceptus, Altimaster, Paragear, Chuting Star, GoPro, etc) Now the service I have received from SONY ... that is another story. :/ steveOrino
  16. The only one's who like handcam are the ones getting paid to do it. DZO's who operate 182's and can keep expenses and retail prices lower because of them like them. Students who can't afford a full video package like them. Everyone who reaps a benefit from more DZ exposure because of the product like them. TI's who haven't seen a raise in this industry for 20 years like them. TI's who are tired of having to put up with shit head 300 jump wonders hammering into them just because they are the only ones who will do video for crap pay and no product standards, like them. Stop crucifying those that have developed the skill, and have approached the activity with safety first and foremost in mind. clap, clap! steveOrino
  17. I just clicked on it -- appears to be working steveOrino
  18. First time jumper. Yes Sorz were mine, but we stop using the sorz and went back to old clear flex goggles as they kept screwing them up. I liked the blue lens, but it was expensive. steveOrino

  20. being a TM I think YOU are far too concerned about being strapped to a guy. that says a lot about YOU. IMHO. Sure, landing by yourself has got to be safer than landing with a dude who has 1000s of landings with multiple wing loading. It is always entertaining reading stuff here! steveOrino
  21. Yeah, but you are automatically pigeonholing him as someone who only has one approach, which is "different to yours",. He clearly has a variety of approaches, and uses the Sgt Major approach only as a last resort....as do most of us..., Well, I wasn't trying to do that; sorry for the misunderstanding. My point was simply I prefer to treat ALL students with respect. Just because they (students/newbs) will not change their nature doesn't necessitate me to change mine. steveOrino
  22. Dave, I have no problem with you doing that. I simply said, it wasn't "my way," and I have learned from both types of instruction/correction. I prefer a different approach than yours ... "different" not "better." steveOrino
  23. Not my nature. I learned more from SF Instructors who 'taught' and 'instructed' than the Drill Sgts who yelled and intimidated. Personally, I don't like the dickhead method, but if that is what you are ... just not me. Lots of ways to teach students and newbs. I prefer to use what come natural to me. steveOrino
