    Thailand BASE

I will be back in Bangkok around the 12th ish of Feb... if you are around there then and want to jump, let me know. I have access to the rooftops of a number of Bs in the city. Just so you know, I don't BASE so you will have to be confident and skilled enough to pull off your own jumps... I am a local though with a car and can speak the language if the need arises!
  2. I had to use my reserve really early (jump 10) so was still at the stage where I was getting to become comfortable with my gear. It didn't turn me away from the sport but everytime I've jumped since, I don't believe my main is going to work. It is subsiding somewhat but everytime I am on the plane, I expect a malfunction on the main...
  3. The thread linked was me. It's been a year since and I can tell you what did happen. I went out and got a job and funded it myself. I am one of those people who are never serious about anything, I pick up new things and quit them all the time and skydiving is the first thing I have ever taken my own initiative with and persisted at. My mom was just amused, my dad pretended it didn't happen. I brought home skydiving videos and my mom and sister would watch them but my dad would refuse and refused to acknowledge I did it. But he never actively opposed it. I would throw in skydiving stories sometimes when we chat but he would just not respond. 2 weeks ago, I was being inducted into a sports club and my dad was with me and we had to mingle with the committee members. Someone asked me if I played golf and after I said no, my dad said "you'll be amazed if you hear what sport she does play". I am still shocked at that. So I guess the parents came around and it is so much better this way than if I had lied about it and hidden it. Lesson learned - where there's a will, there's a way and your parents will always love you once they realize it truly makes you happy.
  4. awesome! it's the week after uni holidays! i'm going to definitely try to make it up there for at least a few days! is there bunkhouse accomodation at the dz?
  5. I bought a 98 Dolphin for about $350 and had it sent to Mike to be modified. Mike made it freefly friendly, reconstructed the whole front so it was up to date with their current design and re-sized it to fit me and did a whole bunch of other stuff and sent it back to me. The whole thing (including shipping to Australia) costed me about $200- 250 so for around $600 I had a custom, completely modern as good as new rig delivered. Unfortunately I can't post a pic because the rig is in Australia right now & I'm not there... I haven't jumped it yet, I only just got my A license so I can't comment on that part. But as everyone has said, Mike is awesome. He was in touch with me constantly and was really really helpful and went out of his way to help me. Everytime I see a post about a Dolphin rig I feel compelled to commend the customer service!
  6. i'm a student too, took me about 9 months (23 jumps) to get my a license cos i couldn't afford to jump more. i literally sold all my stuff on ebay, got a decent paying part-time job and stopped buying anything uneccessary. i also did my tandem & got into the sport alone because everybody u speak to "would love to try skydiving" but how many actually go through with it? not worth waiting around for... so...where there's a will, there's a way. maybe look into getting licensed in spain.

    E

it's really really really fun. if you've never tried it.. don't drink. do it in halves.. wait about 40 mins to an hour before taking the second half. there is alot of talk about the comedown. i guess everyone is different. i think hangovers are a million times worse. u don't hallucinate unless u have some crazy shit mixed in. u usually just feel the beat really loudly and just want to dance. it's not like alcohol or weed where ur mind feels in a different state. u won't even know it's hit u, all u wanna do is dance and love life and everyone around u. prepare to be really lovey dovey cos when ur on e, the world is amazing and u love everything. time will fly. it's a really happy drug.
  8. I was the biggest trouble maker. Because I look Indian, everyone always expected me to be hardworking & good so I used to exploit that to the max. I went to 2 different high schools in different countries and in both the principal and everybody in the principal's office knew exactly who I was. Some of the stuff I did: - smuggle duty free alcohol into the boarding house and get everyone drunk (they had never really drank much before) - spent nights (when everyone was asleep) walking around the boarding house with a screw driver trying to figure a way to get out - it was all alarmed- finally figured out a way to unscrew the year 9 window - took a 2 litre bottle of water, filled it with alcohol and took it into a final exam and told them it was electrolyte. came out of the exam pissed drunk but managed to top the class! - had a fake email address as my mother (who doesnt know how to use the computer and was overseas) and would use it to chat with the boarding house mistress and give me permission to do whatever i wanted.. i got given saturday detention. the only other people to be given that was the whole rowing team for throwing an illegal underage drinking fest after the regatta, selling tickets and using the school's name on them then theres the whole skipping class, getting caught lying etc etc.. man. i have so many stories. fun times.

    New Video

wow! what an awesome video! i was wondering what the music tracks you used are.. i really liked them all especially the first one!
  10. Wow, you guys have it so cheap. In Australia, the rent is calculated per week and rental places are 100% bare so you have to buy everything from washing machines to bed to fridges when you move somewhere... and the rent is ridiculously expensive. A dorm room costs US$270 a week (including meals)... that's crazy for a small room and trash food. I'm paying a little over US$230/ week for a 1br studio student apartment.
  11. Haha, I have two accounts and will drive the bid up on whatever I'm selling using the second one if the time is running out and it's not selling (rare)... or if it's going to sell for less than I want... it's funny though.. ppl won't bid but as soon as they see there is a bid on something, they suddenly want it..
  12. Saxophone Was forced to learn the piano but quit when I was younger to be rebellious.. can still read notes and play a bit.. I tried to teach myself the guitar once upon a time..
  13. My boyfriend's ipod did the exact same thing just after the one year mark as well. He took it to the shop and they were totally unhelpful and gave him a number to call for help. He rang the number and the guy sent him this URL. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771 It took many many tries to get the ipod into disk mode but it finally worked. Then we left it to charge for ages and tried to put it back into ipod mode and got the sad icon again. I then tried to restore it quite a few times until it started charging (this is all using a power point charger). We left it for hours and then plugged it into the computer. It has been working perfectly since... it was previously lying useless for 4 months. Maybe it will help you? Good luck!
  14. I was part of a college which (according to American exchange students) is the Aussie equivalent to a sorority/ fraternity except it was co-ed and you lived there. It's way more than a dorm and you are definitely made to do a lot of crazy things as freshers and acquire power as you move up the ranks.. The college system here is modelled on the Oxford/ Cambridge/ Princeton version... I was at St John's College at the University of Sydney which supposedly has the reputation of being the worst-behaved, wildest party college in Australia. I had no idea when I got in but I totally don't doubt that. Other colleges were at least good at sport or academics, we sucked at everything except creating ruckus, getting people drunk and coming up with new ways to cause trouble.

    PHP/ Oracle Help!

thanks Dave, but that's wayyy too complex for me. i have a piece of PHP code as a starting point which i need to modify into a login/ authenticate page (has to speak to the database).. the stuff i've been given to use is really basic and not very secure so it isn't what the 'real world' implements and that's why i can't really find any relevant online tutorials! thanks though!

  18. get a Mac dude! i had the clamshell ibook a few years ago and it was a beautiful machine but i made the swap to windows because a lot of the software i use wasn't compatible. just made the swap back to an intel mac a few months ago and i am never never never ever going back. my machine (although the ram has been up'd) can do so many heavy duty graphic/ video tasks at once without slowing. i'm still amazed. i don't even have an anti-virus installed, never had an issue. seriously, invest. get an intel mac. so much more user-friendly and u can switch onto windows anytime u want if u need it. u won't though.
  19. Second that. I don't really drink, alcohol scares me. I really like the taste of beer though so I just sip it and stop as soon as I feel lightheaded. I lived in the dorms for 3 years and really saw every ugly side of alcohol consumption in excess. When you're drunk, you lose your reasoning abilities and can't really control your behaviour so people can easily put you in situations you don't want to be in. With weed, that's not true at all.

    Hotels in NYC

We stayed here http://www.thebenjamin.com/ which is in the middle of Manhattan.. We paid ~$250 for a 4 person suite during Christmas so a single room should be cheaper and it is an awesome awesome boutique hotel in an awesome awesome location... You could try.. Edit: Sorry.. just went to the website and realized it's an all suites hotel..
  22. hahaha, yeah. i am a poor uni student too... after my tandem, i sold my ipod, tv and fridge on ebay to pay for AFF 1 then i got a job
  23. Hey there, I bought mine a few months ago (all checks, new battery, valid until end '08) for $300 from Ray Ferell at Action Air Parachutes. He told me that he regularly buys them when they need to be sent back, does all that and then re-sells them. He also told me to pass his info around to anyone who might be interested as he usually has a few in stock. Just google it. Hope that helps!
