  1. If I understand you, YES you can do that. GO get the book by Jim Reid. It will help you with the more advanced stuff. I have been using iMovie & iDVD for almost two years now, but only doing the simple stuff for fast tandem videos. But now I'm reading up on doing more of a "movie" and finding out there is some really cool shit you can do and it is more then I can type for you to learn. Good luck and enjoy you new found freedom, and YES APPLE RULES! Will definitely get the book when I get back to Sydney... am in Thailand right now & it's a bit harder to find here.. Thanks for that! :)
  2. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! iDVD is such a breeze to use!! I didn't have any of the themes which is why I couldn't figure it out but I re-installed it and voila.. so simple! I can't believe how much time I've spent trying to figure out menus when it is so easy! Yay for Apple! Is it possible to use the given themes but say add another picture or remove a picture's spot from the template given? Or make the picture's area bigger? I couldn't figure that out... Thank you so much guys!! :)
  3. Sydney, Australia.. 24 hour clubs, pubs and bars..
  4. thanks for the replies! i've got both dvd studio pro and iDVD but have never used either. didn't even know they could be used to make menus. guess i will teach myself using the help/ online tutorials.. but i don't seem to have any themes or templates for either.. is there somewhere i can download them for free? i've been trying and trying to drag a photo i want as background from the media section to the background in iDVD and it just doesn't do anything!!!
  5. I'm working on a DVD project and I need to create a menu. I've never done one before so I'm looking for a program that makes them really easy. Basically one of my options has to lead to a video, another to a slideshow with music and another to some text about the DVD. I'm working on a Macbook Pro, all my video editing is done on Final Cut Pro. A friend showed me a program called MyDVD which looks really simple to use but only runs on Windows. I can get access to a Windows machine but would prefer to learn to do it on my Mac. Any tips? Also.. any easy way to do the slideshow? I was actually going to edit it in Final Cut (putting together the photos and music) but there's gotta be a smarter, simpler way... Cheers guys!
  6. same - we had 4 hours to do the louvre and panicked cos we didn't think it would be enough.. so of course went to the mona lisa first (so overrated) and then just got lost in the egyptian room for ages trying to find our way out.. the louvre obviously has heaps of amazing art but i found that trying to do it quickly means that ur not really appreciating anything properly and it's just too big to be able to do that. we actually ended up getting fed up and leaving with an hour to spare.. the other thing about the louvre is that there's so much amazing art there but u just watch ppl go past without even looking at it trying to find the mona lisa (and u find urself doing it as well) which just made me a little disillusioned with the idea of art appreciation.. u could go to the picasso museum if u only have a bit of time.. it's at the st. paul metro and it takes about an hour or so to get through.. or.. u know what else u could do.. go to the wind tunnel in paris!! it's open really late in the evenings and is a bit of a trek from the city (maybe like an hour in trains + 25 minute walk) but the people there are so nice and it's a cool experience! make sure u make a reservation though.. it's called aerokart. have fun in paris, i'm so jealous!!!
  7. I just spent a bit of time there, Paris is amazing! As has been suggested, definitely take a walk or Bateu Mouche down the Seine.. crepes in Bastille, just next to the train station- banana and chocolate.. yumm.. go to eiffel tower but go right til the top, they let u in til 11 i think.. it's amazing, definitely go there at night, it's absolutely worth it!! best hot chocolate in paris is at a place called angelo's on rue de rivoli.. musee d'orsay if u have the time to visit only 1 museum - it has all the monet and renoit and other impressionists.. montmarte is really cool and arty... paris is amazing, u'll love it no matter what u do!
  8. I use it and love it but feel it's going a little commercial from when it started..
  9. sounds like an awesome trip! how long going for?
  10. Will be finished after 5 yrs in November... swapped degrees 2x and am doing 3 majors - journalism, comp science, french
  11. Hey, I'm in Australia & bought heaps of gear from ppl in the US. I used the wire transfer method to pay. Basically you need to give your bank account number, name, swift code and branch details and the person can go to the bank (or online) and transfer money to you. It charges the user maybe a $15-20 AUD fee. I found that a few people in the US were sketched out about giving their bank details but no one can really get into your money will only your account number. At least here in Australia it is the most common way to pay someone. Ebay, paying fees for random things, buying stuff online.. the seller's bank account details are always publicly available for a funds transfer. Good luck!

  16. Ok. So here in Australia, our worst ever massacre was in 1996 when 35 people were killed after some psycho opened fire on a tourist destination called Port Arthur in Tasmania. After that, did our government say "now we should give everyone guns so they can protect themselves next time"? No. Infact, our prime minister Johnny went to the media saying: ""we will find any means we can to further restrict them because I hate guns... ordinary citizens should not have weapons. We do not want the American disease imported into Australia... I did not want Australia to go down the American path. There are some things about America I admire and there are some things I don't. And one of the things I don't admire about America is their... slavish love of guns." So then Australia decided to categorize different types of guns and restrict who could buy them accordingly. Even the most basic one needed genuine reason (ie. farmers who needs to shoot feral animals etc). Self defence did not count. And they started a buy back initiative in which they gave people ridiculous amounts of money if they sold their gun back. And it worked. Since then, there has been one major shooting.. it was in 2002 at a university where TWO people were killed. And that rocked and shocked the nation and more gun control was put down. Since then, nothing. Sure, very very occasionally you hear about someone in the bikie gang being shot or something gang related where it was an internal conflict and one person died.. but no mass shootings on the innocent (*knock on wood*). The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimates that 78% of all firearm deaths is on suicide BUT only 5% of suicides done by firearms. So Australia is a case study of a country that got rid of their guns... and it works. I'm glad I don't live in America. And it's not even being scared about getting shot in a mass murder situation, it's that every tom, dick and harry can get a gun so maybe next time if I refuse to give my handbag to a mugger, I may get shot. Or maybe I'll accidentally piss someone off on the road and they'll get out of their car and shoot me. Fuck that.
  17. I bought a 98 Dolphin a year or so ago for about 250-300. I got in touch with Mike who re-sized it to fit me exactly, made it freefly friendly and pretty much modified the whole rig to match their latest design. Including shipping to Australia it cost me around $360. He did additional updates to velcro and stuff for free. Mike is a champion, get in touch with him! I feel like I have a brand new customized top of the line rig for really cheap!
  18. Barcelona! Barcelona! Barcelona!!! I was there a month ago, it is absolutely fantastic!!! I travelled all around Europe and was considering foregoing my Barcelona sector to go back to Amsterdam but all the locals I met in Italy and France told me it was one of their favorite cities ever and that I absolutely could not do that. So I went and am so happy that I did! But with La Sagrada Famillia.. I paid the 8euro cover to get in and the whole place is under construction! You can't see anything inside except scaffolding. So if you decide to go in, pay the extra 2euros and go to the top to make it worth it... edit to reply to the art lover comment above - I went to pretty much every gallery and museum in Paris and the Musee D'Orsay is the best one. It has all the impressionists - Monet through the ages, Manet, Renoir.. you have to go there.
  19. im leaving tomorrow but am having the maddest time here! ive met so many people, its been awesome! and to that suggestion, great minds think alike!
  20. thanks for the advice guys!! yup yup i have made friends and it is awesome! just had to give it time... i love this city i dont know how i will EVER be able to leave.
  21. yup yup i am actually staying at the flying pig.. in a 32 bed dorm.. it seems like everyone is here in groups... ive met a few people now so its not so bad but everyone is still concentrated in their own groups. its different cos when people are drunk, you want to make friends but when you are stoned, you just wanna chill.. so i joined the wavelength!
  22. so i just got into amsterdam this evening and it's the first time i'm by myself in a hostel. i even booked a 32 bed dorm so that i could make friends. but the two guys in the dorm are passed out and no one else is in the room... why would they be, its 7pm in amsterdam! it seems like everybody in the lobby bar are just hanging around in big groups and know each other or else they are single sleazy guys. i'm not the shyest person but i don't really know how to approach people out of the blue! how how how?????
