  1. Does anyone know what is going on with http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk/? It seems to have been down for at least an hour (since about 12:00 GMT today) Hope they don't have any major problems Update: still down as of 15.22 GMT
  2. Hi Which ones are missing from my list - just so I know which to add :-)
  3. Hi Here is a ZIP file containing 3 .gpx files: - UK dropzones (updates to include the newly re-opened Swansea DZ) - UK wintunnels (OK, the 2 of them) - Slovene dropzones (they don't all count as official DZs as some of them are used for skydiving on occasion) bye Martin
  4. Hi folks This thread is very long so I don't know about everything that has been discussed here but I have compiled a POI file a while ago that includes all UK dropzones and both windtunnels as well as all Slovene DZs. It should be available for free on http://www.poihandler.com/. The guys on the site are a bit slow and I still cannot find the Slovene DZs and the UK windtunnels. However the UK DZs are all there, including the newly opened Swansea one. Just in case I attach the GPX file. Get yourself a POI converter or POIEdit to get a file format for your SatNav. Bye, Martin
  5. Hi I have recently got to use sat-nav for the first time using also user loaded POIs (points of interest). I got them from a site called Poi Handler (http://www.poihandler.com/). There was also a section there Sports/Skydiving which gave ma an idea to gather all the UK dropzones so someone wanting to go to one and not knowing , how to get there, could use this poi file and load it in their Garmin/TomTom... There are actually 4 files: one file is for dropzones and one is for wind tunnels. The other two are a nice graphic to show you the end point. If you find any problems with the coordinates not being OK please send me a message. I hope most of them are OK. I got the coordinates from BPA, but had to adjust them a bit.
  6. Here it is on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWfkZ5bfTj0 One of the most interesting thing about this if you read Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lars_von_Trier#Phobias is that the director Lars von Trier is afraid of flying and that all of his films have to be shot in either Denmark or Sweden, even those set in the United States or other foreign countries.
  7. Hi I turn to this forum as I have so far been not very lucky with my recent landing and my knees are hurting quite a lot. I have 71 jumps. At 61 jumps I switched from using student canopies like Skymaster and Manta to using a Cayenne (by Performance Variable) 170. It is a bit little for my weight (85 kg) but it was very good in the air until I had to land. Apparently it is very different to land this semi-elliptical than a Manta (duh). But I didn't think I would have this much problems. So far I have made 10 jumps with it and only one (7th) was on foot, all the others ended-up with me either rolling like a football or skidding and hitting my right knee. The one when I landed OK, I do remember having a little wind to help me, all the others were mostly w/o any wind. My colleagues warned me that I didn't brake completely although I always thought I pulled the toggles to the max. Instead of steadying my hight on landing (I think this is called flare) I still keep on getting towards the ground. Instead of stopping I hit the ground pretty fast. Not nice! Is this the problem, should I make another loop of the command line round my hand to brake more extensively (I know this is not good practice). I hope you can give my some pointers, I was told that these (fast) canopies can be landed cross-wind and do not need head-on wind to land nicely. Please help :-) Martin
  8. Hi I chose an article I wanted to add to My Bookmarks 'First Rig FAQ' - http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/safety/detail_page.cgi?ID=43 When I go to the My bookmarks page the link is not the same, its: http://www.dropzone.com/knowledge/Detailed/43.html Needless to say, it doesn't work! If clicked the server returns: 'Not Found - The requested URL /knowledge/Detailed/43.html was not found on this server.'
