  2. I wish that I knew more about the gear configuration but I think that I was grabbing at what attached me to the Instructor's harness. Again, I don't know enough about the gear to know what this means but I will copy this post and bring it "with" next time I jump. The first time, I was in full "whuffo" mode, now I got a whole list of questions prepared. Hells yeah. I thought that I was going to lose my dinner from the night before when that "shock", as you call it, happened. I thought it was all over. The Canopy ride was slightly poo-inducing the (controlled) spiraling and what not... but the free fall is like pudding. 3. i was just taking a really close look at my video and realized that I grabbed onto the caribbeaner rings above my shoulders when the parachute deployed. I never really understood what I did wrong but the more I read the more I realize that this was sorta stupid. The TI ended up having to tell me to let go of the rings twice under canopy. My question is this: Is this a common problem and has anyone encountered a similar scenario? Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving! ~ Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame

  5. Seems to me that the majority of us Western consumers are very much accustomed to taking it in the rear when it comes to the capitalists controlling our lives. However, most are very similar to the chronic welfare recipient in that we don't make any effort to change our situation. Long commutes, large vehicles, cranking the heat in the Winter time...all just creature comforts that many are not willing to relinquish. So then if we are really all that concerned...why not buy a scooter or a bike and happily buzz through this phase of our existence by darting through the perilous lines of traffic or go out there and start a revolution and hold these companies accountable. 6. In ATL you can get the "fake-me-out" version (no wormswood) at your local package store. It's a bit on the pricey side, but is well worth it. I've had some wonderful all nighters jam packed with hardcore philosophical rants and raves - all positive energy. On one occasion, no one seemed to calm down. It made everyone feel like a freight train - non-stop insight, wit, and one-liners...crazy, man, crazy...it was like truth serum for a couple of us...but good times were had by all Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving! ~ Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame
  7. This is a very valid point. However, I believe that the article presents the fact that the community is responding to the needs of its constituents. This school would be built in the community so that people living there would not have to bussed (another heated debate) across town in order to have another option. And that's what it seems to address: the need for more options. Similar to the Bush administration's push for Private school vouchers being made available to lower income students. Also, I have seen many students of color who can 'assimilate' quite well in disproportionately 'white' student populations. As stated before, this tends to be easier when the students have similar socio-economic backgrounds. At the same time, some students do not progress when taken out of their comfort zone which may include cultural, social, racial, and economic factors, as well as proximity to their communities and/or homes. One more thing: Lower income students tend to do worse on standardized testing because those school systems tend to have less resources thus less learning opportunities and exposure to other cultures, etc. Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving! ~ Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame
  8. Wow, crazy I guess we've had completely flipflopped experiences - the average salary of my High School Teacher colleagues (w/master or doctorate degrees) was 50k. When I taught at the college level most of the PT professors (w/master or doctorate degrees) for the day classes made maybe 18-22k. It's much easier to have full time job if you teach only evening or weekend classes. Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving! ~ Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame

  11. My family is Anglican and my boyfriend's is LDS. We end up getting pressure from both sides - mainly because they love us and want to be reunited with us after our earthly deaths (their fear not mine). His folks have been trying to convert me for almost 7 years. They're wonderful people and I respect and love them, but I won't budge because I've chosen an alternate route. I am more agnostic than anything else so we can go to church with his family or mine during the family visits with no worries and sometimes we don't go with little or no hassle. We always have healthy debates and I have no problem pointing out the holes in the scriptures or where and when I have an ideological beef with their opinions or customs. If you have a strong mind, you can keep your opinions and he can keep his while learning more about one another as humans. Plus, learning about the "scriptures" is quite helpful when you want to have a a truly informed position about why you think they're wrong. You say you "need proof". Well, if you study the bible, you'll have plenty of opportunities to back up your perspective up with specific chapters and verses. Then you can play on a level field. Just another opinion.
  12. I was referring to this post which implies that the French are wasting precious time debating Political Correctness. And Suds - "hyperbole" or not - let's try to evolve past the slurs and keep focus on the issues. Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving! ~ Patrick Dennis' Auntie Mame
  13. Nor will living in the land of the free buy you a pass from Niggers Stealing Your Shit when a hurricane hits... Um, I haven't been on here for long so I can only hope that you were joking when you chose these words. You don't really think in that way do you? In any case, people always refer to the French being politically correct America-hating a-holes but keep in mind that they were the ones who passed a law banning religious dress in schools. __________________________________ "France’s lower house of parliament voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to ban students from wearing Islamic head scarves and other religious apparel in public schools. 14. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/worldview/story/0,11581,845725,00.html Ok, if you are trying to use Bin Laden's Letter to America as a Clinton Blow Job Attack Point then look at this section of the letter: "You have destroyed nature with your industrial waste and gases more than any other nation in history. Despite this, you refuse to sign the Kyoto agreement so that you can secure the profit of your greedy companies and*industries. " Which President (Bush or Clinton) refused to sign the Kyoto Protocol? This debate is so stale. Clinton got a BJ and Bush started an unethical war that is killing and maiming thousands of men, women, and children (Iraqi, American, Allies) with no justification nor end in sight. Moreover, we now have more enemies in the world and have destroyed any sort of credibility that the US once held in the international community. Bravo! Eight more years of BUSH! Come on! It's time for someone new - none of the old players that have destroyed credibility and divided our nation. Enough of the bullshit. 15. FYI: Not -necessarily- true. The majority of professors don't make bank- quite the opposite. The exception being if they are full-time and/or tenured which can take years and years, if ever. High School teachers on average make more than college professors who are more than likely associate, assistant or adjunct Profs.- making crap for money with no benefits.
