Realizing this started a long time ago, but the poll is missing my option. More than once, but I'm too old for that any more... :)

Same boat as Wendy but not that I am too old, others plead with me to not subject them to such an unforgettable sight, I believe the term eye bleach has been used...

  2. Let's get this straight ok. My boy called himself Gomei (Go-may), we called him Gomie (Go-me). Forever he would tell everyone that he was Rishard Gomez but he really was Richard Gomez. B| Such was our friends joyful take on life, in Name and everything, one more person tries to correct me and I'm taking my nice guy hat off. :P
    Maura is exempt on that...

  3. So it's been just over a week now so I guess it's time to say goodbye in this community too. Friend of over 30 years and an all round good and fun guy. To say that they don't make guys of his character anymore would not be an understatement. Till we meet again my skydiving, partying, fun loving Freak Brother. BSBD

If you think wearing an AAD guarantees your survival, you need to think again. Its a good back up device, but making them mandatory does not mean people can survive every time they have a problem.

Wearing an AAD may help save your life, but that is as far as it goes.

No device can replace proper decision making and correct EP procedures. If you have one, you should embark on every jump prepared to carry out EP's as if it isn't there.

    Never forget that.

  5. So as some friends know, a buddy and I have been leasing space that we have been using to work on our motorcycles as well as refurbishing some sweet classic Triumphs. Well today we took a big step and closed on the purchase of that building as the first step in starting our own business called "The Kings Cycle Experience" in Kings, Illinois. There is a road ahead to finish getting things together and making it work, but I think we can make it happen. Somewhere in the future I will not be working for the man anymore but will be my own boss, it's been a long time getting to this point but I am super excited right now that we are getting so close.

Wish us luck and if your in the area stop by to see us and what we are putting together. Also if your into bikes remember, repair, refurbish, or restore, let us help make your dream bike become a reality...

Oh yeah, only 10 minutes from the DZ, can you say lunch jumps!

***Hmm... my last good beer drunk was on premium beers, but that was because I was at The Trappist where everything is high-octane and it all goes down way too easily!:D

Most people who seek out the premium beers have the sense to go find a pillow when they've had too many, not a chainsaw and a tiki torch. :D

Chainsaws and Tiki torches aren't worth getting out until ya got a good buzz going... B|

***My mom and my sister did a tandem about 3 weeks ago. They were kinda scared on the ground and got better once in the air. I got out at 5k so I could video their landings. The first thing my mom said when she landed was "now I understand why you do it."

    Pic of sister?

    Pic of mom...

******Not sure where it started or when, but I would personally prefer we spend those extra few seconds checking gear, or the spot, or something a bit more productive.

Given how many people go out the door with gear gigs, plow through clouds, and an assortment of other silly crap I think we would be better served by paying attention to the task at hand instead of celebrating before a successful landing.

How 'bout we play slap-ass *after* the jump.

I thought I was the only person that thought this...

I get that it's a distraction, but as cautious as I am this is one thing that I actually enjoy.

I would never do this on jumprun or bother an instructor or their student when they're working, but before jumprun and done lightly (i.e. not doing it to someone who's checking their gear or being insistent about it) it's cool just to relax and wish people a good jump.

Then again I don't get on the plane not ready to jump, and I alternate between getting the altitude picture and checking my straps, routing, 3 rings, handles, RSL etc. continuously. I also don't take off my helmet (personal choice because I wear glasses with a full face and don't want to have to bail without being able to put my helmet and glasses on in time if I ever had to) so I guess I never really thought of this as worth considering as a dangerous distraction.

If you start out safe before you get on the plane and don't do silly things like stop spotting or gear checking to do it I still think it's a cool gesture before a jump. I guess that first part isn't always true unfortunately.

You think this is a distraction...Wait until I grab ya and give ya a big wet kiss before you climb out ;)

Next, you were not trespassing. You did not willfully venture onto his land, you ended up there as the result of a airborne 'emergency', and you have the protection of the FAA on your side. You are not at risk for any sort of criminal prosecution.

I've got to call BS here, sir. I only reply to this because it's a topic that I cover with students frequently. I reject this train of thought and demand proper flight planning. Landing out is not an emergency - it is a result of either poor planning or poor execution. Every off landing that I have personally made, witnessed, or heard about has been preventable. This of course, excludes true emergencies such as a bail out or cut away.

If we dissect the chain of events, as you have, the mistakes become evident. IMO - No emergency, just a failure to perform as required.

Well to bad we can't all be perfect like some people. :P
I believe that dave was pointing out the legal aspect of the possible encounter. I missed the airport once getting out around 100 of 120 people on the aircraft. I guess it was my bad planning on actually getting out that made me miss...

  11. Let's see, chest strap destroyed when Sluggo dumps, then for other reason's sluggo then needs to cut away the main, and lastly I've never heard of a bad outcome from deploying without a chest strap securely in place (sarcasm). Have fun...

  15. Quote

I just glanced at it. He made just less than $21M. He gave a little over $4M to charity and paid just over $3M in federal taxes.

He easily put more into the federal treasury in one year than I ever will. He gave even more to charity. Meanwhile, he was working for free as Governor. And people complain he isn't doing his 'fair share'? Since I've seen no assertion that he cheats on his taxes, I'm guessing people think he should ignore the tax law and instead donate larger portions of his income to try to appease his detractors?

I think some people define the word 'fair' as roughly, 'I want more of someone else's stuff'.

and to put parity and fairness in perspective, from an overall point of view http://www.ntu.org/tax-basics/who-pays-income-taxes.html

  16. So when republicans propose reduced increases in the same expenditures then it is a cut in benefits. when you listen to democrats, but when democrats propose the same thing then it is not a cut? A spin by any other name...

  17. There are many fiscal conservatives who are not "far right". In fact there are many more in the middle that each party are looking for in November. More people will more than likely vote on economic issues this year than on social issues. If we continue to spend the way that our government does then "moral" social issues will be the least of our worries.
Let's take abortion for example, I doubt the right of a woman to have one will be overturned. On the other hand I do not want my tax dollars to subsidize it, would I be wrong for feeling that way. I do not think so because if I hold true to my libertarian believes she has a right to make that decision for herself, but be responsible for that decision on a moral and financial basis.
I have almost always voted libertarian in elections since 1976, this year I will not. We can not afford 4 more years.
