I had a friend do that at the software company we worked at. She hit reply instead of forward on a mass email from the CEO - she thought she was telling her husband what an idiot the CEO was. She panicked after she realized what she had done, but a mgr in our dept said that the CEO had an admin assist. who checked all emails first. Luckily nothing happened. Cross your fingers and hope for the best.

They lie and pretend that they had nothing to fear during the "ban" period, and now there's all this horrific dangerous hardware suddenly come available again. Don't people see through the obvious fallacies of all this crap?! ____________________________ I think that most non gun owning people think that the "assault weapon" ban is about automatic weapons, when it has nothing to do with them. Mostly thanks to the media helping the anti gunners out whenever possible. Therefore many people think the assault weapon ban was a good thing, because they don't have the facts that gun owners do.

Well i usually wear tanktops in the summer and i've caught people looking down my shirt many times. Hell, sometimes i check my own boobies out. _________________________ it's a genetic thing - men have weak muscles in the backs of their necks, which in turn causes them to look down a lot. not our fault at all.

6500 on her engagement ring, several hundred on the wedding ring which she had fused to her engagement ring (2 different types of gold so you can see the difference) and $500 on my ring (platinum and gold combo). It was worth it - we're happily married and I love her very much. I only planned on doing the ring purchase thing once in my life. Although I'm sure that other guys have said the same thing.

Utah -- Man killed in POWERED parachute accident -- press clips
bill2 replied to quade's topic in The Bonfire
It's a small open rig, with a seat and a large fan behind the seat with a parachute providing the life and the fans providing the forward power. supposed to be fairly simple to fly, and safe. just not in this case. I was reading an article about powered chutes and para gliding in UTah and the area that this accident occured in is a mecca for this stuff. -
Anyone thinking this movie is propaganda is not thinking rationally. It's a Memorial Day, beginning of summer, pop-corn flick. Nothing more. If Mark Gordon actually made the comment, it was -only- for the purpose of hyping the flick. Get real. _______________________________ Well, actually, several reviews have noted the distinct similarity between the Vice President in the movie and V.P. chaney. and Moveon.org has already mentioned it as "the movie the Bush administration doesn't want you to see!". so yes, in some ways it can be seen as propaganda, and I'm sure there will be lots of people who believe that this could happen. and others will think that while this extreme weather can't happen, we're going that way and it's the Bush administration's fault.

The guy who was promoting it was there at the Byron Boogie last Sept... I think they were looking for something down in the tourist area somewhere... _______________________ Thanks Jeanne. I knew I had seen info on it somewhere. Hopefully that will open soon. I've never been in a tunnel and would like to try it sometime.

I can't remember where I heard it, on the web or someone at Byron, but I though a wind tunnel was supposed to start up here in the bay area in CA. Maybe the east bay? Does anyone know? Thanks

I'm curious - I was reading some posts on the internet by a security training firm that trains a lot of people from SA. they said that the country is very dangerous (no specifics as to exactly where) and that the crime rate is very high, with people being attacked on a regular basis. Is this true? How is SA today compared to before the change in government (Mandela being elected)? Again, just curious.

Many years ago I was reading a story about a young who enlisted in the paratroops in WWII, and his training at Ft. Benning and subsequent combat experiences in Europe. He tells the story about during training of seeing a Roman Candle (the chute not opening fully) and watching the guy hit. When he ran up, the guy got off ground with only bruised ribs and some scrapes. Turned out it was a chaplain.

you've had lots of good information, probably it's a bit overwhelming at first. just a few more items for you: 1) buy two guns (if you can afford them) a .22 and whatever caliber pistol for self defense. you can practice with the .22 for a fraction of the cost of shooting the larger caliber gun, and the principles are the same. 2) don't buy anything until you've had a chance to read some of the links suggested in this thread, and take a class (usually 1 day) at a local gun range. like anything else, the more familiar you become with a subject the better decisions you will make when you purchase something (TV, gun, parachute, car, etc). 3) after the 1 day class, spend some money (usually $500 - 1000) and take a class at one of the major gun academies: Lethal Force in New Hampshire, Gunsite in Arizona, Front Site in Nevada, Seattle Firearms Academy). They usually last 4 - 5 days and are worth the cost. You will get far more out of a class, then just going to the local range and punching holes in paper targets (which help but will only take you so far) 4) Remember, the most important thing is not the gun (or the make/caliber) - it's you and your mindset. If you don't take this seriously, and getting a gun for self defense is a VERY serious decision, then you're wasting your time and maybe your life. Buy a gun(s), get the training, and keep practicing like your life depends on it - it just might one day. 5) And last of all, the first thing to consider in all this is your moral approach - are you willing to take someone's life. Forget all that hollywood crap about shooting a gun out of someone's hand - it's complete bullshit. When you do use a gun for self defense, you always shoot to stop someone - not to wound, not to kill, but to stop them. They may or may not die, but if you do get a gun you should assume this responsibility. Good luck. You may find you enjoy shooting as a hobby - you could do a lot worse.

if it feels good it's a sin. the better it feels, the bigger the sin.

I was dumped Feb 2003 from a software company, and my job and a lot of others went/have been going to India, and some to Vancouver. Also, it's hard to say that they're saving money when the top execs take huge amounts of money for themselves. They could save more money just by not taking such huge bonuses and stock options. And as for Bush voters being screwed by Bush as though he is sending jobs overseas, well, this practice has been going on for awhile, started by Democrats. It's now becoming an election year issue since it's white collar workers losing their jobs. Many of the CEO's here in Silicon Valley are very much a Democrat, and have no problem sending jobs overseas. The reality is that it's not a liberal or conservative thing, just greedy executives (and yes Bill Von - I agree that sometimes they save money, but many times they just piss off customers) who want more than their fair share, and shit on on workers.

1974 - 1978, combat engineer (minefields, demolition, infantry). also spent time as a gunner on a CEV - Combat Engineer Vehicle. Trained in Ft Leonard Wood MO, 3 yrs Germany as part of 3AD (now shut down) and then finished up at Fort Ord CA near Monterey (also now shut down). Bad morale back then, lots of drug and race problems. But I'm glad I did my time - overall it was a good thing.

Further, The Center for Disese Control hasn't found a correlation? Well, geeze, I guess NASA or the Department of Agriculture hasn't found a correlation between the Brady Bill and the decrease in gun related violence either. Big whoop. I think if you look at the Department of Justice, you'll see a pretty damn direct correlation. ____________________________ The reason that this is brought up is that the CDC has been backing gun control laws for several years, since some of the doctors there say that gun violence is a "disease" and they know how to cure it. Earlier in 2003, the CDC released a study of dozens of other studies about the effectiveness of gun control. The CDC said that after all these years of gun controls, they could not point out that these laws had done anything to reduce gun crime at all. Also, when you mention the Brady Bill preventing crime, you should keep in mind that the vast majority of those rejected for purchasing a gun, had to do with computer glitches and paperwork errors. The justice dept put out a report saying that of the 100,000 or so "crimes" prevented, over 80,000 had to do with the above mentioned errors. And of the rest, many had to do with people buying guns who had a minor crime committed back when they were very young and not because they were about to or just had committed a murder or other violent felony. Of the total, approximately 100,000, the federal government prosecuted less than a dozen. As for gun control preventing crime, Prof Gary Kleck of the Florida State Univ, reported that and he was backed up by FL state official statistics, that the homiced dropped rate dropped 20 % after FL passed its right to carry concealed law in the late 80's.

I haven't jumped with you, haven't jumped in awhile due to personal circumstances, but I met you at the Byron boogie last September. Marty introduced us.

I'm just curious, do you think that you will ever take up a hobby, or already have one, with the same intensity and commitment of time? I know what you mean about getting burned out when doing something fun as a job. I used to teach martial arts and spent a summer working as a diver during college. I got tired of both and eventually stopped doing them. Occasionally, I want to get back into them but just don't have enough enthusiasm.

Alaska if you're a good skier. Never been there myself but the pictures are incredible. I was skiing in the Dolomites in Italy a few years ago, great skiing over a huge area (450 lifts or so) over several mtn ranges into small towns and then out again after a beer or something to eat.
