  1. I was spinning on my back like a frisbee after chop, I couldnt slow it down, it seemed to be getting faster. When I say fast I couldnt make out anything except my rig and handles. At 2000' Ditter Flat line I deployed. Reserve opened great but Iwas disappointed and had to sit for a bit to get my thoughts together. I bought the tru Lock risers from Vector in the attempt to not have that happen again. Brake fires on small high loaded crossbraced canopies are a disaster. I wish I could duck tape them in place until opened. The canopy was loaded at about 2.6, not sure if that helped or hurt.
  2. I had a brake release on a XAOS 27 92 last summer, to say it was violently spinning is a understatement. The handles were high although I located them. After cutaway (no RSL), I was spinning so fast I had trouble regaining control. Okay I had alot of trouble gaining control, firing reserve in a not favorable position. Hard to learn from it though I had never been spinning that fast, and after cutaway it seemed to get faster, similar to a sling shot.
  3. "falling out is what happens when instructors do not use the system properly" 100% true. If the harness is adjusted properly it will work without incident. The mod was added to make you feel good. I have heard it reffered to as the Y not modification. Special Needs Tandems are a different story.
  4. 25 MPH? Re-think, re-analyze, and re-submit. because you are re-tarded. No offense to the mentally challenged, I know the OP.
  5. Ok here goes, 2. Free flying is part of the course - you lean sit flying through the 3 sit fly jumps What AFF/AFP course in the US teaches this? Just curious? And what Sit fly jumps? I am a AFFI and am not aware of the sit fly jumps. 4. I dont know how many other DZs do this but you will learn to fly a relatively high performance (compared to a Manta) canopy (Sabre 2) right from day 1 Define H.P. for students? I hope .75 - 1.0. 5. Your graduation jump is whatever you want it to be - 4 way, 5 way, free fly, hybrid, tracking.... Are you serious? Who are the other 5 guys? Coaches, Instructors? Freefly for a AFF graduation jump? Hybrid? Am Iin OZ?
  6. The Tandem Instructor/ DZ can apply for a waiver, and yes it can be done. Where are you located?
  7. Am I reading this post right, or at least tell me you are joking? I am tired and must have read it wrong?
  8. If I were King and not have to answer to anyone I would even go a step further and make it 500 for the 1.3-1.5 and 750 for the >1.5 and 1000 for >2. Wht do I know I guess I am too conserative in this area. And yes I fly a HP highly loaded. I would have fallen within these guidelines so I am not a hypocrite.
  9. After rading this whole trend and now having bloodshot eyes, I think I liked your post the best. You are going in the right direction in my mind anyway. The only thing that will keep our statistics low is education. Although this is very hard to sell to enthusiastic young jumpers. The only thing I would give an opposite opinnion to would be the jump numbers you have listed. A 1.8 at 400 is still a bit high IMHO. I would like it better to say 300 jumps for the 1.6 and 500 jumps for the 1.8 Minimum. Remember the canopy companies suggest 500 jumps on some of the HP's now.
  10. Funny story, We were doing a 12 way out of a caravan and the uppers were strong., 3000' under was fairly calm
  11. It depends on the DZ. At our DZ, I would honor the class, and the jumps provided, I spoke to the DZ to verify the course and the instructors to verify the jumps. Once we were all on the same page you would still need to go over the new DZ layout, rules, protocol....etc prior to jumping. So probably a lenghty refresher so to speak, to definately include E.P.s, Landing patterns, Canopy control. We would need to check what rig/canopy youdid your first two on, to see if they are the same size dynamics.....basically put do we both have that warm fuzzy I am ready feeling.... Good Luck
  12. Aggie gave the best advice, speak with your instructors at your DZ they know much more about your situation then anyone here. It is a hard question to answer vaguely or blind. Also, read, read, read....There are thousands of posts on this topic....There are also great books on canopy flight, and most important educate yourself, Canopy class for instance.
  13. Maybe you are dreaming it? Be careful of a water landing you might piss your bed!
  14. I used to work at a DZ that flat packed Tandems. As the operation grew so did the number of rigs and thus the number of tandem jumps. Simply put there was not enough room to flat pack anymore. I truly beleive the transition to Pro pack developed out of the need to save space. The time thing might be a myth, because I have witnessed flat packs done in the same amount of time. We actually had races and you would be surprised. You will probably hear an argument about which gives you more consistent on heading openings. That is also up for interpretation. I have jumped both and personally like the Pro pack theory to on heading openings, but as with any debate I am sure there are those that like the flat pack openings better.
  15. Let her just enjoy her first one taking it all in. When you get enough experience maybe she can go again with you.
  16. UPT: For any relative worker to accompany a tandem, the following criteria must be met: 1. Relative worker must have 500 RW skydives or 2. Relative worker must be current Tandem Instructor, or AFFI. 3. Relative worker must have made at least 100 Relative Working jumps in the last year. 4. Cameramen must meet all of the above guidelines and in addition must have at least 100 camera jumps.
  17. Marko, Now that you have shown interest in the Coach Course and signed up for it later in the month, I am curious about a few things: 1. How would you answer the same questions, posed to you by students just off AFF/AFP? 2. If a student came to you for coaching and asked to jump a camera with under 200 jumps? How would you respond? 3. If a student wanted to jump a rental 170 that put him at a 1.33? or say he had 100 or so jumps, What advice would you give him? Remember, Students are smart they will know the path you took. Mostly because when you introduce yourself, you will probably tell the student a little about yourself, to include jump numbers. Q) How can you safely advise a student to do something that you either do not beleive in or refuse to see as being the conservative safe route? If youare going to be giving advice that condones fast downsizing and disregarding USPA recommendations where exactly do we stand pre-course? I think you should ask yourself why you want to pursue this rating and if you EARN it then what kind of mentor will you be. Maturity is an important aspect of teaching in this sport, honesty is a close second specifically with yourself. This is not a do as I say not as I do sport. Most people who have been in the sport for years have either gotten lucky and learned from their mistakes or followed advice of people who had made mistakes. No need to recreate the wheel here.
  18. The Dytter framed the clock, conspiracy theory. Batteries?
  19. They closed. I tried to organize a demo for a wedding onto the beach. Complete nightmare, more red tape than you can imagine. If you really need the name of the operation that used to exist I can get it for you.
  20. It sounds like you are way up north. The Ranch is way closer then Cross Keys. In fact even Skys the Limit in PA would be closer to you. I would be happy to help although I am at Skydive Long Island Calverton. If we schedule one I will let you know. If you have any questions PM me. Dicky
  21. I only have jumped them about 10 times but thus far I lay them on top of each other. I have a Javelin NJ and it is not bad.
  22. I just bought and jumped 23" Vector Tru Lock risers with the Louie Loop extra. Besides being a pain in the ass to hook up to the front soft link due to excess webbing, I think I liked them. Definately gave a smoother carve, pulling down from the link. Seems to add 1 inch to the riser. Any other input on them?
