  1. Where is the "Like" button? Is it parked by the swoop pond? top sorta...its parked by the pool. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  2. I have been on an AFF jump where the main side was wearing a camera and student pitched the pilot chute and snagged his eye piece. He couldn't figure out what was going on, he looked up and it cleared. He took it off after that. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  3. And David "COWBOY" Williams... Sighh. And my old DZO, who got arrested for taking a shot at his wife. He used to bust students' balls for daring to request the rigs with the AADs, or for riding the plane down instead of jumping when the oil pressure conked at 1,700 ft. He was a prick; but no, I'm not going to name him. Skydivers on the fringe of legality. What a novel concept. Don't we have better things to do with our time? Are we just talking about DZO's or skydivers in general? If we are talking about skydivers in general, we cannot forget Fred the pot cave guy. That was one impressive operation. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  4. LOL, yes, he was a very big guy. I was suppose to line up behind him on inside of the otter, but as soon as he bent over, we couldn't get by. I just turned to everyone and said "we are all swooping". He was very friendly and funny. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  5. Very sad to hear this. I met him at the South of the Border boogie in San Carlos many years ago. What a super nice guy. Blue Skies Forrest. Judy Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  6. The wuffo comments are the best part of the story. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  7. awesome! Another Shana Richardson. LOL. Is/was she a porn star? j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  8. Thought about it, but there was a couple trucks driving around, and one just sitting at the corner of the field I landed in.. probably could have avoided, but ya never know if some skydiver stole some local's girlfriend and is out for revenge. and I have never found asphalt to be very forgiving. I also jump with a full face, and so I was never concerned about getting beat up by the corn. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  9. I try to avoid being on loads with those I don't trust in the sky. Otherwise I just land way back. Some may even say that I land "off". I say I land safely. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  10. AND...not to be too critical, but the landing by the JM wasn't really all that pretty either. Lots of grass on the right side of the road, some grass on both sides of the road, the road...and he took the planted field. Just sayin', the JM may not have been all that comfortable with an off field landing either. Quote When landing off once at WFFC, I chose the corn field next to the road, because I had no idea what was hiding in the grassy strip next to the road. Often times, there is stuff hiding in that grass that would really sux to land on or fall on. I chose the corn since I only expected corn to be in the field, and no hidden transformers, metal poles, etc. J Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  11. Well, I would make your front float...that would be a positive, at least for me, to have someone your size blocking the wind. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  12. +1 (though i do try to make a couple of jumps monthly - when I know traffic will be light). j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  13. What then, do you make of this: So when you go skydiving, do you use your Cypres to automatically open your parachute on every jump? Are you under the impression that having a Cypres will keep you from breaking your leg upon landing? Do you regularly pull at a low enough altitude so that both of your canopies will come out at the same time? What part of that don't you get? PLEASE stop saying that the cypres OPENS the parachute. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  14. about 49 seconds. There is a freefall time table in the SIM at the USPA website. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  15. No, the main person who was negligent was the student that didn't pull. Not routing the loop properly didn't kill anyone. It may have prevented the Cypres from being able to have the chance to deploy the reserve, but it didn't kill anyone. Had the rigger misrigged it in a way that pulling the reserve handle caused a reserve total, then I could see you having a case. I do not have a manual in front of me, but have been corrected when I was newbie that a Cypres does not DEPLOY the reserve, it activates a cutter to cut the loop. I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong/ J Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  16. LOL. He said good looking...I figured he was talking about Giada. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  17. Did check my handles before I left the airplane. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  18. Thanks Bolas....all the other articles just refer to it a the "Flying Fortress". Still very sad. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  19. What about the Yankee Lady? I saw this one at a airshow last summer. Bolas just posted in another thread about this that it was the Liberty Bell. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  20. Do you know which one it was? Was it the Yankee Lady? I hope not. Very sad this happened. Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  21. My back yard is larger than the "grass strip" at Perris. And again..it was really not a demo. IT WAS good for the sport and WILL generate more business than anything else the USPA marketing dept. How many of your demo's got posted on mulitiple media websites. The comment sections prove that it is good for the sport. With any jump, things can go wrong. People can die and should Brian have died skydiving, the report would have said Brian Vickers dies in skydiving accident and no video of the jump would probably have been released.....like any other skydiving accident. Bill - green is your color.
  22. Very sorry to hear this. He was an awesome guy! Thoughts and prayers to his wife and family. J Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  23. [reply The more important question was - was it a good idea? I don't think it was; the odds of something going wrong were way too high. . Were the odds higher on this jump as opposed to any other? there were only 2 people in the air, they managed to not collide with one another. I think that is pretty successful considering how things are going this year in the sport. Yeah, Brian doesn't have a billion jumps, but the landing area is HUGE. and yes, he fell on landing, but who here hasn't. The grass was wet. The stands were empty - the seats are colored and might look like there are people there, but there are not. Bill - it really feels that you have no point to make but just want to disagree with me, which I really dont' care if you agree with me or not. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
  24. reply] Ok you all have me curious: Regardless of whether this was a demo or an exhibition or a bandit jump or whatever, there seems to be a common view here that the Raceway was all but abandoned this day. As I look at the video, am I the only one who sees a ton of people in the stands? The place looks damn well crowded. I have not been inside Daytona Raceway so I can't absolutely swear that those are people. Just looks that way to me. Anyone else? The stands were empty. Brian is sponsored by Red Bull. Video guy was a one of the Redbull guys. This was a promotional/commercial for the race in July. Nothing more, nothing less. The landing area is larger than most if not every dropzone in America. Funny how none of you commented on the "lake" and why you haven't questioned whether or not he had water gear. Several websites that are posting this video have a comment section. Most people who commented thinks is really cool and would like to try it someday. Proof this is good for the sport. This was not a bandit jump. If it was, they are some pretty stealthy guys to make a jump that close to an international airport and then air it without the FAA finding out. 25. Oddly, any skydiving is good for the sport, even when there are injuries or death. If he would have killed himself we probably would have never seen this promotional commerical made into an empty race track. For those that do no know how big Daytona is, it is 2.5 mile track. It is HUGE. I'm looking forward to attending the race. j Be kinder than necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
