  1. My Dad broke my leg doing something like that when I was 2. Now my knee is a good barometer. Attached is one I thought of a while back...... aso about starting them young. Never really had the balls to post it though... In retrospect I don't really think it was going to offend anyone. Just for fun. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Thanks. What you should know is that we've also walked down many times; In fact it's probably about 50/50 walking down to jumps. This year has been pretty bad but it's well worth it when it works. Do you mean from the road on the edge of the cliff where they shoot a lot of adverts? There is quite a spectacular jump there too. Incredible visuals but you can't miss the landing area otherwise you have to go for the water and down there it's not good... One of the jumpers here was in contact with city guys responsible for management/upkeep of this road (it's a major tourist attraction). The guy kept on phoning him at one stage asking when we were going to jump it again... The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

Watched the late movie last night not really thinking I'd be getting a jump in the morning. Summer is windy in CT and I was just going to wait for Sam and that British guy to get down here and hit the bridges early Jan. Scott, a friend from Pietermaritzburg is down at the moment and staying at Rob's place. It costs him over 200 USD to get here and has been here at least 3 times this year but we still havn't been able to throw him off our favorite rock. 4:30 a.m. Rob phones: "Let's go". Look out the window in a daze and the trees aren't moving. Even after a quick coffee, getting my gear together and driving off, I am still thinking it won't happen. Any way, get to the parking lot of the fish and chips shop near the harbor where Rob and Scott are waiting and the flags are completely down. Despite the fact that we're all very unfit, it doesn't take us too long to get to the exit. Kit up and gear check. I'll go first, Scott second and Rob last. Rob and I will have the radios. I go first because I have jumped here the most, Scott second because it's his first here and his second 'E', and Rob last because he would know how to properly use the climbing gear Karl has hidden in the rocks should anything happen. Karl is cool that way. He doesn't jump anymore but he went up there, planted some bolts at strategic spots and stashed 2 bags full of gear, all at his own expense (if you're wondering, even if you manage to find the exit by yourself, you'll never find the gear unless you know). Slight westerly but when I chuck some sticks they go straight down. Rob reminds me to cover the hooks on my shoes. It felt weird doing that at the exit. All the "have a good one" rituals and I'm off, in that space again. "Only a surfer knows the feeling". This was on an advert for the 'Instinct' brand a few years ago. Seems arrogant but it's true, for these 3 seconds, only a BASE jumper knows the feeling. One would appear stupid trying to explain it and given the choice I'd rather appear arrogant... It's over and my 'Mojo' is above my head flying away from the rock like I told her to. A short minute of flying the baby and I'm landing. Quick brief over the radio on what the winds are doing at the landing area and Scott's off. Gives it a good 3 sec and he is under his 'Black Jack' (bastard!). Comes in to land and he's speechless. He finally got to jump here after all the money spent on travelling and beer. Shortly after Scott's landing, Rob is off. Usual delay but serious OH left. He back risers out. OH left is not good at this place, 2 more seconds and he was on the rocks. He lands; we're all ok and we're all ecstatic. Walking back to the car past the dodgy housing. It's a reminder that rather than complaining over my life's little miseries I should be thankful to have the privilege of living moments of BASE with good friends. Merry Christmas all you sketchy sickos! poc The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

  8. Sure, but it just doesn't come across that way. Regardless of what the moderator thought, the tone of some replies imply that no skydiver could learn anything from it, it's trash, let the BASE jumpers deal with it. Moving the thread without explaining the motive shows agreement with those posters. Bah, I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill. 10. Well, actually, from PM's exchanged after a serious 'faux pas' of his I'd be inclined to say yes. Ye, me too. Brian did and I suppose I should mention that I havn't forgotten that. I just woke up to another windy day. No wonder jumping is legal here; you can never jump... The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  11. Wasn't there but I'd order a copy if I wasn't so broke at the moment... Sort of on and off work. My 4 yr old daughter just wants to keep watching the girls section of the teaser over and over. Every jumper: "is that a girl?" The questions only stop with the rasta on the bike: "that's a boy." There's some progress from when I borrowed 'Radix' from a friend. She just wanted to watch the opening scene with Pete Swan. I never really knew what hypnotized her about that scene but she would freak out if I didn't play it again.........happy new year.......happy new year......happy new year......happy new year......happy new year......happy new year...... All this to say what?: _ Jimmy makes awesome videos, always cool music also _ I was impressed by David Coco. I perceived him as being quite arrogant before and whenever I'd read one of his posts I'd kind of raise my eyes. Jumping with your dad must be incredible. Just shows you can't really judge a person from what you perceive of them here (I am sure most of you know that but I am just a little slow...) _ This brings me to the next point: A lot of you who post here were there. I'd really like to meet some of you some day and would really like to make it to a bridge day. Even a chinese team; just can't help thinking I missed out on a lot of fun. _ The scene with the girl in pink wearing a skydiving rig and having funny things happen with the bridle freaks me out every time I watch it and I feel pain every time I watch that guy stall his white canopy. _ Is that wingsuiters canopy still in the tree? 16. Ye, I'm more conservative than you think dude, never win gambling and I'm not really into all that Black Death stuff either. BASE alone is enough to keep me more or less mentally stable. Get too cocky and you quickly get put back into place, get too chicken and sooner or later conditions are good and you have to face your fears. I'd end up in an institution if I had to bet on anybody's death (including you) and they actually died. That aside, Ian's point makes sense. The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen
  17. Bah, take it easy dude. If you look at the last 20 fatalities, the number of experienced people who have died still outweighs the number of inexperienced people. Ok, there are 4 I am not so sure about and even if you include those in the inexperienced it makes it about 50/50, the heavier side being the experienced people. Granted there's a lot more to it than just taking it like that but I just don't think you will be seeing 15 inexperienced people going in next year. Call it the optimists point of view. I agree with that but I definitely also think he is biased in the way he deals with different posters. There's obviously some things I don't know about and I could never give that much of myself to a job with no pay so I should probably just shut up on that... 18. Here's what I have so far. Some work to do still. I have been in contact with somebody who swims around these waters and he has given awesome feedback. Yes I know I have stolen Guy's 'EFS' idea but I mailed him and he is cool with it so no plagiarism there. Suggestions and criticism welcome. Will do the final one for submission soon. Got more going round my head also and will submit more than just this idea. poc The bums will never win Lebowski, the bums will never win! Enfin j'ai trouvé: Bieeeen

Reading back on what I wrote, it did sound quite nasty. I didn't really mean it that way. Mother, mom, mum, ma, it's all the same I suppose, as long as you don't dress like her and go stowed from 170'; that would look odd. Besides, I am not British (well, at this stage with all the family i've got over there...). 1/2 South African, 1/2 French and I won't go in to detail about grand parents and great grand parents because...
