buying first rig. any suggestions?
OSOK replied to ua45free's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ask your instructors... they would know best. -
Dude... if you're gonna talk about skydiving, don't use a management topic... go with aviation. Don't ask me what, just go with that. It's at more, um, interesting, than the other :-)
-
If you jump congested, it'll hurt sicne you won't be able to equalize.... so, don't jump congested.

I failed IAF lvl 5, 3 times. I know it doesn't help with your question directly, but you sound a bit frustrated, so don't be. It'll come, and when it does, it's like "duh! that's it!"
-
Congrats!!!
-
I second that. One day, before boarding the plane, I told myself I was going to MAKE myself think about crap from life while in freefall. Well, on the ride up, with the stuff that happens (we all know what that is)... I completely forgot and I remembered when I had landed.
-
Me... because that minute of freefall is the most liberating minute a human being can have.

You're welcome to complete the sentence :) Let's make it... related to... dz.com.

When you pack like me, you have to trust your rigger!

That made me chuckle :-) Good job not getting D-E-D. -
... you scroll down to the Incidents forum and see no new posts. :) That's all. Bryan

I had to repeat my IAF lvl 5... 3 times. Yes, it sucks, mostly because of the money. Nothing wrong with repeating levels though. On a side note, I wish the price for repeating levels would be less though...

Skydiving competition held in China
OSOK replied to PhreeZone's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ironic would be for China to hand South Korea a package, tell them not to open it, and to simply it give it to NK when they get back. :) -
Good laughs... glad I came back :-) And definitely one of the best threads in dz.com!

What upsets me is that they do the whole "mach 1" crap. Mach 1 at 40,000 feet is NOT the same as mach 1 at 1,000 feet. When Kittinger made the balloon jump back in 1960, it was said he broke the sound barrier, but he never really did.
-
If you don't like it, go give AFFI shit. He's the creator. Sorry... this made me laugh for a good couple of minutes. OK, I'm done now. HAHA.

General newbie skydiving questions
OSOK replied to critrgitr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just in case you still follow this thread, I suggest this: get started on the AFF program, go through the ground school that you'll have to do before your first jump, and make the jump. After the ground school you'll understand things SOOO much better, and THEN if you make the decision of NOT jumping, it'll be an informed decision. There! We'll see ya in the skies :D EDIT: I posted this without reading what others have said, so it's probably repetitious. Go jump man! -
General newbie skydiving questions
OSOK replied to critrgitr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ok. Even though I'm not going to answer all your questions, I'll say this: if you're looking this much into the dangers of skydiving, I think it's better off if you don't get into it at all. No matter the number of deaths by human error, equipment malfunctions, etc, skydiving IS dangerous. Again, IMO, if you're worrying so much now, don't even bother. EDIT: I'll leave someone with more experience to answer your questions. All I'll say is that I never had a problem going on my back and not being able to recover fairly quickly. -
well crap, ive signed about my last 20 jumps myself, including someone who isnt even a skydiver :/
-
To the neptune speeds... I'm pretty sure that's not right. I mean, you throw anything out there, and it will add drag and slow you down, no matter how collapsed/distortioned/twisted the thing is. The riser twisting thing seems like it worked in that case, but what about others? And I'd also be iffy about adding twists with the toggles there.

Yes, plus how it was done. I don't have a suit yet, but I've looked at the Prodigy as a maybe, and if it can be modded and get good results out of it... even better!
-
The dude just posted a cool gadget he found... why the flaming? If you wanna get technical, he said "almost 0 snag hazard" and didn't speficify which way to mount it. You're all assuming he meant the way it's on the pic, but maybe he's not. Get the sticks out please.

While we're at it.... don't be this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HiaN5x2dn7k or this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qFgNcZ7nan0 -
Ok, I just wanna ask something that I'm surprised no one has caught yet. You said it was spinning to the left, yet the right brake was released? ????
