  1. Yeah, sorry. My girlfriend got tired of shooting video during the meets and we don't have much footage from 2008.
  2. I am disappointed that PD is being secretive about the source, construction, and methodology of rating their HMA lines. I would think safety trumps competitive advantage in this case. Another thought that I haven't seen discussed here is the total mass of the jumper. I let a friend who outweighs me by at least 30 pounds jump my JVX and he broke 3 HMA lines on the first jump. Marat isn't exactly a featherweight either. Maybe heavier jumpers should consider using thicker HMA lines.
  3. Why would you want to make your body big?

Wind conditions were cross/upwind for the entire meet and moderately gusty at 8mph to 15mph (estimated). We tried something a little different in zone accuracy. Amateur pilots were required to fly through 10' entry gates to get a scoring run. However, they were not awarded gate points unless they flew below the 5' markers. This produced tangible differences in the scores and rewarded more precise flying that better simulated the toe drag. For example, in round 2 of zone accuracy, Derrick flew below the 5' markers for all gates and landed in zone 1. He received a score of 69 (60 gate points and 9 zone points). Jeremy flew below the 10' marker at gate 1 but he did not fly below the 5' markers for any of the gates except gate 4 and he landed in zone 4. He received a score of 35 (4 gate points and 31 zone points).
  5. Morris, I agree with you completely and I am disappointed that more people haven't chimed in. At a time when canopy piloting accidents are receiving more and more attention it is counterproductive for dropzone owners to disallow hop-n-pops or to discourage them with unreasonable prices. A hop-n-pop has always been recognized as the ideal environment to work on canopy skills and if we want to reduce canopy piloting incidents we should be encouraging them.
  6. I haven't jumped at Skydive Chicago yet this season but they were $10 last season. Sky Knights definitely charges $10 (out of the Cessna 182).
  7. Sky Knights in East Troy, WI Skydive Chicago in Ottawa, IL Both of these dropzones charge $10 for a hop-n-pop.
  8. Ian was mistaken about the carve. It is not 30 degrees for both courses. CPC: 60 degree carve over 180 feet (10 foot gates) PST: 75 degree carve over 220 feet (5 foot gates) The extra length of the pro course is a very big handicap. Expect it to add roughly one second to your times.
  9. John, if you are willing to take the role as organizer that is great. I am hesitant to do so because I am not sure I can make the commitment this year and I don't want to let anyone down. But why do we have to have the same argument every year about meet location? John, do everyone a favor and schedule the meets at different dropzones. Christy and I will certainly help out with the organizing if we can.
  10. Honestly what is the purpose of a response like this? The topic bores you yet you took the time to read the whole thread and then post a reply?
  11. I was told that the USPA will select the top eight pilots from the most recent US Nationals. Therefore, the event in Colorado in August will determine who goes.
  12. My maneuver starts at 800 - 850 feet at sea level. I probably should have raised my initiation altitude a little more while I was in Colorado. In some of my runs you can see I needed too much rear riser input to plane out.
  13. Most people fly to their setup point in brakes and the maneuver starts when they release the brakes. I say "maneuver" rather than "turn" because some people go right into the turn while others go full flight or dive with double front risers first. Using that definition then 850 feet sounds about right for my 270. If you look at my runs in the following video I let up on my brakes at 850 to 900 feet. I'm flying a zero-p JVX 90 at about 2.35 wing loading. http://www.sundered.org/cpc/pst2007_championships.mp4
  14. Most video playback problems in Windows are caused by incorrectly installed, misconfigured, or conflicting DirectShow filters. Try using VLC (www.videolan.org/vlc) which is a standalone player that doesn't rely on DirectShow filters.
  15. I have finished editing the rest of the video from the 2007 CPC/PST Championships. Last week I posted the CPC events and this week I am posting the PST events. Again, the footage was shot by Christy Brown on a Sony HDR-HC3. Subtitles were added that include the competitors' names and scores. This video is 69 minutes long and 438MB. It was encoded at 900kbps with H.264 video and AAC audio. It is being hosted by bob.dino. Please do not try to stream this file. Download it to your hard drive and play it from there. http://www.sundered.org/cpc/pst2007_championships.mp4
  16. I encoded it with the same toolchain I have used for the last three videos. I also watched the whole thing before I uploaded it to make sure there was nothing wrong with it. By the way, you're not trying to stream a 900kbps media file over the Internet are you? Save the file to your PC and then play it from there.
  17. I agree. Everyone should sit down in the accuracy zones and take their 10 point penalty.
  18. I have compiled a video of the competition runs at the 2007 CPC Championships. The footage was shot by Christy Brown on a Sony HDR-HC3. Competitors' names and scores are included via subtitles. The video is 50 minutes long and 315MB. It was encoded with H.264 video and AAC audio. Thanks to bob.dino for hosting the file. http://www.sundered.org/cpc/cpc2007.mp4
  19. Ian, is there a reason you like this design better than the one Mel/Joe makes? I see it has 8 attachment points rather than 4. Does it take longer to pack because of this?
  20. It appeared to be bad judgement. The pond is 300' x 150' so it's kind of hard to miss it by accident. She was apparently trying to avoid getting wet which put her low and over the dirt. A better option would have been to swoop over the pond and carve out to the side if it didn't look like she was going to make it out.

  22. I have compiled a video of the competition runs at the 2007 PST Air Festival. All events are included (distance, carving accuracy, ultimate speed, freestyle, and team speed). Subtitles were added that show the competitors' names and scores for each run. The video was shot with a Sony HDR-HC3 camera. It is 97 minutes long and 610MB. http://www.sundered.org/pst/pst2007_air_festival.mp4 The easiest way to play the video is using VLC although you can play it using any DirectShow player if you install the necessary filters. Christy Brown deserves a special thank you for standing out in the hot sun during the whole competition to capture the footage. She didn't miss a single run. And thank you to bob.dino for hosting the file.
  23. The pond at Skydive Chicago is chest high in the center.
