Look around for a good deal on used student gear from time to time. It's what I did. I only make anywhere from 1-10 jumps a year these days. I got an old Javelin with a 250/260 canopy combination for about $2k.

I still like the story I heard at Ft. Benning back in the '80s. Two MP's approach a guy wearing a class A uniform at the Columbus airport. Tipping an instructor is quite easy if proper stealth is used. Just give a packer, S&TA, or DZO a fiver and have them get down on their hands and knees behind the instructor of choice. (The hands and knees bit should come quite naturally for the packers and S&TA. You may have to work with the DZO a bit.) Then lightly push the instuctor in the chest area. They tip over quite easily as they have no balance on the ground.

I'll wait till 1000', then bail out for that added bit of ground rush.

Oh I know all to well how devastating it can be. I'm still paying off 25K in medical bills. And actually had to trade/sell off gear and other possesions to support myself during the healing process.

Yes. That is one of the reasons I hardly ever donate to organized charities. I dated a woman who was the manager of a NPO solicitation group for a diverse range of charities. She appeared to be doing quite well for being such a martyr. Turns out that most of the money you donate to organized charities goes to pay for the operating and promotional expenses of the NPO. And the salaries of it's employees. Most often 10% or even less of your money goes to the actual charity.

What are the communities feelings on this ? I personally have no problem with a family or persons setting up a fund with a bank to be managed by someone responsible to defray medical expenses. Especially for those with extensive injuries that will probably result in a permanent disability.

On the other hand, I do have a problem with people asking for donations to help with financial obligations, day to day expenses, and incidentals like room decor ?!?. WTF ? Really ?

People say, "Oh, they're going to lose their house, car, boat, RV, or whatever. And their credit is going to be ruined. Everybody should pitch in and help them". My personal answer is tough shit, they shouldn't have been skydiving

Perhaps the organs that the group was most interested in needed to be taken as quickly as possible at the time of death so as to actually have usable organ. Then again you would think the family would be clearly informed on why certain actions needed to be done in that type of fashion. It is really sad that a person comes across another person that says that nobody has ever been very thoughtful or nice towards them. The 1st person sees this as an injustice and tries to correct the situation with some gifts and gestures. All the while trying very hard not send or give anything that might be considered romantic. In fact telling the other person several times that friendship is nice but it shouldn't go any further than that.

Next thing you know person number one is considered a stalker, a villian, a sexual predator. Really ? WTF ??

If everybody read the entire prediction, then I think the world coming to a complete end exactly 5 months later, is an even more startling prediction. I what I've heard most of my life was anywhere near correct. That gives 5 months for the anti-christ to come to power, and have the whole number of the beast thingy. JC to return, I guess with the whole Seth Brundle rapid growth syndrome going, so he can reach maturity on time. And for Armagedon to happen.
