  1. So, did you swoop your reserve? f' yeah:1:0. It was windy in Byron, something like 22 gusting to 30. At least it wasn't 0 gusting to 30. One freefly jump with Q and Marcel that I flew like a tardbot on.
  2. Kris is great. I've flown with all but one of the instructors there, and you can't go wrong with any of them. The type of flying you're doing will dictate who you could benefit the most from, but they're all patient and willing to teach, in my experience.
  3. I was just thinking about this the other day. Probably below average in skill, but above average in the amount of fun I have. I'll be doing this stuff for a long time to come.
  4. I'm not aware of any way to search by certificate number, or seal symbol. I can't make out the signature at all. Anyone know who was rigging at (what looks to be) Taft in late 1997?
  5. Attached are pics of the reserve packing data card. I'll try looking up the certificate number of the rigger who assembled it. The card is oddly empty, particularly for a rig from 1997.
  6. Actually, looks like I have an eBay account. I sent a message to the seller asking for pictures of the packing data card. We'll see if he bites.
  7. Does anyone have an eBay account? If so, perhaps they could ask the seller to e-mail them a picture of the reserve packing data card. That should have a name on it.
  8. 0:0:0 Carrying the pager for work. Watched Animal Planet and learned a lot about Wolverines. Yawn.
  9. My girlfriend is a skydiver, but I didn't meet her at the DZ. I met her in school, and we started dating before she did her first skydive. She did a tandem, enjoyed it, did another tandem, still enjoyed it, so she decided to do AFF.
  10. 1. Get less sucky at freeflying - sort of done, I've been trying to hit the tunnel a day each week on average, to work on my sit. Making progress, slowly but surely. 2. Start camera flying (helmet arrives in a week!) with the immediate goal of getting a foot or hand briefly in frame by the end of the year - done, but I don't fly it often. When I get better at freeflying, I'll break it out more. 3. Make some BASE jumps with the other NorCal locals when my rig arrives (in two weeks!) - done, but I didn't get out much last year. I'm hoping to hit 100 BASE jumps this year, mainly local jumps. 4. Don't break myself - done, nothing worse than a few scratches in 420 skydives and 30 BASE jumps.
  11. I used to date a nurse. Sometimes, a patient would poop on her shoes. Seriously. That aside, the pay is good, although the hospital she works in is rather understaffed so she was constantly pressured to work overtime.
  12. I'm currently doing the opposite, that is, I'm learning to fly, but was a skydiver first. Go arounds are something that are not natural to me. A few times, my landing has been ugly enough that the only option is a go around, but I'm still thinking like a skydiver and assuming this is the only chance at landing I have. My instructor has had to step in and force the go around, as I continue to try and save the landing. On the plus side, I suspect being a skydiver first gave me a head start on patterns, using clues to determine the wind direction, and perhaps a few other things I'm not cognizant of.
  13. I'll second GP's sentiments.
  14. My camera helmet is from Cookie Composites. As a data point, mine was shipped a few days after ordering, and if I recall correctly, took less than a week to arrive. I wouldn't let the fact that they are in Australia dissuade you from choosing them.
  15. You are giving Chaovalai an excuse to bake again. Brian says you will prefer something fruity over chocolately, but not made from jello. Let us know when you're back in San Jose, and we'll send some tasty treats your way.
  16. I'm on-call for work, and the pager is absolutely blowing up. One of our India datacenters had a power outage a few hours ago, so I'm attempting to remotely bring up as much as I can.
  17. 0:9:1 Nine jumps off the Perrine during the Perrine Bridge Festival. First unpacked jump.
  18. Ass hurts:2:2 Two BASE jumps in Norway as well, one from Smell, and the other from Kjerag. I'm more of a pussy than Brian, and only hiked up when the planets were aligned just right.
  19. Awesome! Thanks for taking Chaovalai up. She had a great time! I can't wait to drag her to new and exciting places, like Hollister, when I get my private finished.
  20. Get thee to a wind tunnel! I say that not having read any of your previous posts, but it seems most people stuck on AFF level 3 or 4 are spinning or otherwise having body position issues.
  21. Great news. For the $500/hour pricing, on http://store.iflysfbay.com/onehotuti.html, it indicates it can only be used by "experienced flyers." How does iFly SF Bay define "experienced flyer?" In other words, what category do AFF students fall into?
  22. If your rig doesn't match your purse, then you're, like, a nobody.
