  1. If by "a complete pruning" you mean "digging it out and buying another from a nursery who've treated their saplings with suitable anti-fungal agent", then yes, you're on the right track :) I hope it doesn't have any sentimental value, because I think it's a gonner :( Best of luck!
  2. Trust my first post on dz for about 4 years to be about trees... someday I might actually do some skydiving. Sounds like Anthracnose fungal infection; any probs with the leaves also? I'm presuming you're in North America? This from TreeHelp.com http://www.treehelp.com/trees/dogwood/dogwood-disease-dogwood-anthracnose.asp "Dogwood anthracnose is generally first identified by light brown spots on leaves. These spots then grow into large splotches occasionally bordered by purple. From the leaves, the disease then moves to the twigs and then, finally, to the main limbs and the trunk which can develop large cankers. It is these cankers which kill the tree. The time between initial infection and death is relatively short, often between two and three years for large trees. "
  3. I'm not usually a Speaker's Corner type of person but, when in Rome... Malaysian state passes islamic law. http://news.bbc.co.uk/...-pacific/2116032.stm Crucifixion, stoning, dismemberment and carte blanche for rapists, apparently. Few things cause me more dismay than watching my species trying to retrograde itself again and again and again... NB This post is not intended to be a slight on anybody's religion. Believe what you believe, practice what you want, as long as it does not impinge on the rights of others. To reiterate, as long as it does not impinge on the rights of others. I just think this is a classic case of the Church becoming woefully involved with the running of the State, a situation I abhor. As soon as I read the article, a little thought bubble appeared above my head. It read "Speaker's Corner... hmmm". So I had to post it.
  4. sniffing coke never helped anyone get to sleep.
  5. What he said. Learn your history, people. Maybe those bits have been taken out of your text-books?
  6. When I lived in Glasgow, "Texas" were still living and working there. I saw Sharleen Spiteri and Johnny McElhone in King Tut's Wah Wah Hut one time; they were watching an AC/DC tribute band. Ah, student days...
  7. Hi incode, It took me a total of 22 jumps (including the 10 solo "consolidation jumps"). I repeated level 3 twice, although i still believe this could have been avoided if i had been allowed to wear some lead around my waist instead of falling WAY slower than my JMs. I did a few minutes in a wind tunnel in paris, that really sorted me out for the rest of the AFF; it was much easier doing the real thing than in the tunnel :) As you can tell from my jump numbers, i've only done 1 jump since getting my A-license. The moral? Don't get complacent, and keep saving that cash!
  8. lol, "shizzle". i haven't heard any snoop dogg for ages. might dig some out now. cheers for the memories, zennie.
  9. hi, a few pics from my time at Aerokart (France) this summer. i spent a total of 18 minutes in there and learnt a LOT (don't hang onto the netting, for starters). here's some shots of my learning curve. i wasn't the only one aching all over for days afterwards... credit goes to my instructor Stu Albon of Winter Sun Skydiving for both the footage and some patient, diligent instruction. he's a "stand up guy" (see pic#3) and the whole trip was a blast. cheers stu! can't wait for the next one... i'm the skinny one in the white helmet and, fyi, that's 22lbs (10kg) of lead on me; 12 in a vest and 10 on the belt. enjoy, tim p.s. sorry about the "yeti sighting" quality of the pics; i ripped them from a dvd taken from some quite dark, rough footage. probably for the best ;)
  10. Injured body? Injured bank account? The price? You know the price. Put your hand up if you're REALLY missing skydiving right now. Yeah, I see you all out there. You're looking good from here... Get to your DZ, stat. I'll see you there! (if not soon, then sometime...) tim -----------------
  11. what a f*cking pussy, shooting a cat. that's low. it must have taken huge self-restraint not to deal that prick a beating, Dom, kudos for taking the higher ground. i'd like a couple of minutes alone with the asshole though, i've got some good credit to blow at the Bank of Karma :) here's a quote from Death Wish for ya, seems appropriate as you DID catch a scumbag... Paul Kersey: Any chance of catching these men? Lt. Briggs: There's a chance, sure. Paul Kersey: Just a chance? Lt. Briggs: I'd be less than honest if I gave you more hope, Mr. Kersey. In the city, that's the way it is. peace to you and your felis cattus, tim
  12. dude, i'm not trying to boast or anything, but when i was at uni i did a 100+hour awakey stint. I didn't intend to, it started with a big night out on the town and ended after i'd been hallucinating aliens in my local supermarket and was so confused i passed out when i got back to the flat. in between, i'd taken sleeping pills, got drunk, got laid, all sorts of sh*t but nothing got me to sleep. my doctor found no explanation for it either. "sh*t happens" is the paraphrase of his best effort. so don't worry, you've got a long way to go before yoiu see the tall guy with the scythe. but please, get the f*ck outta the truck, man, you're the consciousness equivalent of a serious DUI right now and you might kill yourself or someone else; "i was real tired but i pushed on through" isn't going to give you much comfort when you're sat in a prison cell with some 250lb hairy mary giving you the come-hither look... hope you get that sleep soon bro, tim
  13. RkyMtnHigh and friends, you into NLP? You're the most positive people in history :) I make up nice rules for ways to live my life/my career all the time; the biggest frustration is that it's SO difficult to stick to them. I tend to procrastinate a lot but i'm trying to stop. I'll stop tomorrow. After reading his autobiography, i tried sticking to Benjamin Franklin's 13 rules for a while (apart from the religious ones) but failed after like 13 hours or something. Apparently he was a stickler for his own moral code, and he made it work for him. Your beliefs are sound and good, Rky; If you can stick to them, you're on the road to righteousness. I gotta respect ANYONE who follows roads they believe improve their humanity, be it Rky, lawrocket, cocheese, vanillaskygirl, anyone... do your thing and do it right. peace, tim p.s. lawrocket, you gotta take at least some credit for your successes, surely that's allowed?
