  1. CONGRATS LISA!!!! YOU CAN DO IT! KEEP GOING!!! Remember we're all here cheering you on!!!
  2. Ok maybe i'm misunderstanding the previous two posts a bit, so forgive me if i am... I'm not sure what 40 year supply of malt liquor and pimpin' rides, wearing fubu and "bling" has to do with the decision of Vick in relation to NAACP supporting his going back to the NFL. I for one don't think Vick should be allowed back. That's just my opinion though because I love dogs and think that what he did is just plain retarded. Maybe I need some clarification, but contrary to popular belief, the majority of black people DON'T act like what Royd just described. And by you saying "MOST" doesn't negate the fact that its a stereotype of the entire image. Both posts WERE offensive, even if you didn't deem them as such. Secondly, to tbrown, I understand where you are coming from? But how you can you honestly sit there and say that you have tried to understand the "black experience" by partying?? with Black panthers and Black Muslims??? That's like me "partying" with my Jewish fraternity brothers trying to understand the holocaust. That doesn't seem like a reputable statement to me. Maybe I'm understanding the phrasing of the sentence incorrectly, but how can you even come close to understanding the aforementioned "experience" by partying with your friends? and then trying to justify the statement by saying they were black muslims and black panthers. Bullshit. What does that even mean? I agree that humans are responsible for their own behavior and outcomes and that we as black people (some of us - a good bit too) have what I call the slave mentality. That's why I get upset at my own family members and friends who believe that reparations should be paid to all black people. I firmly disagree and will not bring that up on this particular thread, so if you would like to discuss those views and why I feel that way, PM me. Anyways, I'm trying to say that both previous comments are racist comments. I'm not saying you are, but the comments come across as such and incredibly ignorant, whether you like it or not. That's like me saying that all white people are hillbilly rednecks who live in trailer parks. You may not be racist but you're still stereotyping a subset of people by the image of a few that you happen to see. I don't wear my pants around my ass, I have a good education and great job, I dont wear unnecessary amounts of jewelry and I haven't "pimped my ride." I'm proud of my culture and heritage but don't put me into a label based on what you perceive around you. So I feel that both comments were not valid to the purpose of the thread and if I'm mistaken, I apologize, but someone please explain it. The question was, in my own words, do you agree or disagree with the NAACP's decision about Vick? Not about the stereotypical image of black america and how that affects the decision of people around you... Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  3. I know that and I have my own pair of calipers as well too. I've had one of my friends who is in Med School, show me how theya re used and I got the same reading the scale did. I know it also differs based on your hydration levels and all that other stuff too...i've done all my homework on the variables that could affect the results. I just wanted to use it as a stepping stone indicator as to where I am and where I want to be. Thanks alot and no it hasn't been easy at all. I'm usually a nocturnal kind of person anyways, but having to readjust to my eating schedule and sleeping schedule doesn't yield much time. I usually get back to the hotel around 8:30 am, have breakfast and pass out afterwards until around 4 or 5, maybe 6 pm. I then wake up and go work out and come back usually 2 hours later and get ready and go to work...so yeah, its definitely taken some discipline.. Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  4. HA I did it in class last semester....it was hilarious... I was dead asleep too and woke up and it was pretty loud... Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  5. Finally being settled in Colorado I joined a gym and started going at 6 am every morning and go 5 days a week. Sometimes I do two-a-days and come back after work and do more cardio... That's been going solidly for about 4 weeks now, along with a better diet and eating about 4-5x a day in smaller meals and also drink about a gallon and a 1/4 of water a day. Unfortunately right now I'm on a business trip and I work the 12 - 8 am shift for the satellite launch, so its interferring with my schedule a bit, but I found a Golds Gym nearby and they gave me a 2 week membershp for $30, so I've kept it up and just had to flip flop when I ate everything. I recently got a Body Fat %, Lean Body Mass, Overall Weight, and fat to lean mass ratio for each extremity done. (They were doing it for free at my gym one morning). Right now I'm at 246 lbs. So I've lost about 6-7 lbs since I started going consistently. Not sure how much my body fat is down, if at all yet though...
  6. Great minds Peej...great minds... That's what I did for my ex-girlfriend this past school year. She was having a bad week and so I had them delivered along with a 5 ft. tall sad teddy bear. Yeah she had a great week after that....and so did I Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----

  11. Nice man!! Welcome to the sport, although it sounds like you were welcomed a long time ago!! Have fun going through AFF and keep us updated with your progress! Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  12. Yeah I knew that, but i'd rather just watch it than download it and have it take up space I need with other stuff and never watch it again... Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----

  14. It depends on what part of the country you're in. In Colorado, California and Florida, and other "warmer/not as severe winters" - Yes. For places like Michigan, as long as the temp. on the ground is above 40 degrees and its not a blizzard, yes... Otherwise no. I can only speak for those places cause i've only jumped in those places. It may be different for other DZ Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  15. Hey! That's awesome that you're getting him involved in AFF....I wish there were more women like yourself...at least ones that I could find who are cool with the sport Anyways, I used to jump in Michigan during september and october. My best advice is to just watch the weather and try to plan it for a weekend when it will be decent. It will be a little brisk/chilly at that time too. Otherwise, the First Jump Course (FJC) will usually happen regardless of rain or shine and if it is raining, they'll just reschedule his first jump to another day. I think it might not be a bad idea to plan it earlier though. I know in Michigan, the season ends on Nov. 1st or around that point because it starts to get cold and the only way you can continue to jump during the winter is if you have a license. You should also check with Skydive Wayne County on their policies. Also unless he's gonna be an AFF all-star and will ge through his AFF before the season's out, he'll have to wait until the season re-opens to continue his AFF if he doesn't finish. So yeah, plan it earlier if you can. Hope that wasn't too confusing...Good luck! Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  16. Hahaa you said nutty... Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  17. 0:0:1 I'm on my first official business trip in Santa Barbara at Vandenburg Air Force Base. I'm out helping my company launch a satellite and working the 12 am - 8 am shift.... So yeah, no skyjumping for me...maybe I'll get a chance to do some while I'm here though... Hopefully Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  18. Starting a few classes towards my Master's in Engineering, just not sure if I want to do Aero or something else yet at Univ. of Colorado But I got: ASEN 5050: Spaceflight Dynamics or ASEN 5158: Space Habitat Design I haven't decided yet As much as I hate school and am glad to have graduated from undergrad this past April....I can't stay away Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  19. Had to repeat Level 4 three times and then re-do a level 3 as a heading dive and then moved to 5 with controlled turns and a 360 and then went to 6 and 7. The heading dive was done after tunnel time as well... Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  20. Second that....esp when they get to do a fun jump with you. Also I just waited until after AFF. Every instructor who had gone through AFF with me (6 total), I bought them their favorite case of beer. But that's just me... Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  21. 1. Graduate from The Univ. Of Michigan 2. Graduate with my sanity still intact 3. Get a Rig Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  22. Gear rental at my dz is $25/jump. So it can get expensive and then you either pack yourself or have to wait to get it packed. Make friends with the packers...you won't regret it. Also, as they said, when it comes to beer rules, age doesn't matter. You wanna learn to pack, walk up to a skydiver with a case of beer and ask them to teach you to pack and see what happens...(make sure they can pack themselves before you ask for their advice) Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  23. Wait wait wait....hold on there young grasshopper... $140??? Your AFF is going to cost just a tad more than that.....unless you're getting an AMAZING deal on AFF. AFF costs me about $1400. Is that way you meant?? Maybe I misunderstood?? Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  24. If that was his suggestion, yeah why not...it'll give him a chance to see everything first hand. IMO, I would find an instructor (if you know of any that you're cool with) at the dz and have them talk to your parents about their concerns. My parents did that and it definitely helped and your instructors kind of "go to bat for you" in a way. They won't persuade them to let you do it, but they will break it down and not bullshit them just because they're non-skydivers Puttin' some stank on it. ----Hellfish #707----
  25. From what it sounds like, no amount of news stories about skydiving is going to change his mind. It might be best to just wait until you can fully fund it yourself a little more...that way it'll be your decision... Even my parents who support me (they've come a LONG way) aren't really excited. They ask about jumps and everything but are still scared, and you can't blame them, esp. since i'm the youngest. People who don't skydive will never truly understand the behind the scenes, the friendship and camaraderie that you develop and a TON of other things that you get from the sport. Each person is different in regards as to why they do this or what they get, but its an intangible quality of the sport that is only felt if you experience it first hand from more than just a tandem.
