  3. Hi All, we are organizing a Wingsuit event here in Empuriabrava, Spain, in may. Hope to see lots of birds around, Gustavo "EmpuriaFlock '08" The event: Load organising: Jarno Cordia, Alejandro Lopez Video and photography: Gustavo Cabana, David Haygarth From Monday May 5th until Sunday 11th, Skydive Empuriabrava will be the place where wingsuits paint the skies with beautiful formations all week long. Load organising will be present, with an intermediate and expert group, allowing everyone to learn and be challenged at his or her own skills level. Depending on availability, it will be possible to make one-on-one jumps (at slots-price). Alejandro Lopez and Jarno Cordia (Team Fly Like Brick) will be load organising. Resident EmpuriaBrava wingsuit pilot Gustavo Cabana and David Haygarth (Birdman Topgun) will be flying video and stills. For those interested, this event will also be one of the first European selection camps for the bigway record attempts held in November in the USA. Flocking apartments: Next to the DZ's bunkhouse rooms, Skydive Empuriabrava is offering shared apartments at walking distance from the dropzone. These apartments include TV, kitchen and living room, and will be home to wingsuit pilots attending the event. This means the nights are there for sharing video and talking about wingsuits and everything related, to flying 'till deep in the night, accompanied by Spanish beer and cheap pizza. If you want to sign up for the "flockapartments", send an email to the office at Empuriabrava, telling them you want to reserve an apartment bed (2 people per room) at "Maurici Park" for the wingsuit event. Cost: Event registration: 30 euros (includes the organizing with video debrief) Jump ticket: 23 euros 25 jumps block: 543 euros Contact: For information on the event and questions, contact: [email protected] [email protected] For bunkhouse or apartments reservations, contact the Skydive Empuriabrava office: Telephone: (+34) 972 450 111 Email: [email protected] www.skydiveempuriabrava.com

  5. Yes, yes, yes! Im on for january! very good you are all coming here, looking forward for great flights and learn a lot. We are group of 7 now and having lots of fun, here some pics... Gustavo
  6. Correction: was a Nikon 35mm AF D f:2, still on the Nikon line up. Wide open gives not the max quality of any lens, but I wanted to try the minimun dept of field available. First I choose the 24, but then put the 35 and under the neoprene cover I didnt see it again until now... Very nice lens by the way.
  7. Thanks itDIver!, yeah that one is one of my favorites now. I really have a blast running back from the front of the formations. Be able to hear the air traffic controller with the communications systems we use, really help to timing it. But like in all the records I shoot, I allways feel our work as a cameramans is easy, we just take the best images we can. If we fail, we only fail to ourselves, someone else will have the picture. But the people ON the formations, talk about pressure! like the guy who didnt close the second 100 way, or the girl with 399 people waiting for her, and then go up again and close the 400... I really admire all this people. And I love the energy of this events with hundreds of people coming from all over the World with a common goal and vision and make it happen, and all the emotions and good things and bad things happening... Im really happy to be part of that. Gustavo
  8. Hola, I test the Nikon D300 this afternoon and I like it a lot. Best Nikon to date (not ff). This photo is with a 24mm at f2, in auto-area autofocus continuous mode. With the 51 focus points all over the place, all 105 pictures came in focus. The 3" screen with vga resolution is simply amazing. I gonna have lots of fun during the next Empuria Christmas boogie with my new toy, I mean, tool :-) Gustavo www.guscabana.com
  9. Hola People, I updated my site with the CF World Record pictures: www.guscabana.com Thanks to the CRW Family and specially Chris for all the awesome flights during this 12 years. Looking forward for more... Gustavo
  10. Hi Again, I tried but the truth is I dont know how to use video editing software, my focus is in photography... I have IMovieHD and FCP5, can you tell me step by step the proccess? Apreciate your help, Gustavo
  11. thats are very good news! after years of bad analog convertions, the good times finally arrives... Thanks Douglas! Gustavo
  12. Hello Fellows, I need to shoot an event an deliver hdv in ntsc. Im planning to dump my pal hdv footage in a Powerbook or MacBook Pro, do the convertion with FCP, an firewire hdv pal to a camera. But no idea how and if is possible, any help? Thanks in advance, Gustavo www.guscabana.com
  13. Hola Jeff, I build the workstations for the camera team here in Ampuria. Couple of months of thinking & design, and 4 days of tramontana wind to finish it, at 2 AM just in time for a busy weekend! Good luck with yours! Gustavo
  14. As allways, Norman is THE Man! I know he wants to make a book to teach cameramans for years, thanks Douglas to make it happen, an in a better format... Gustavo
  15. Sometimes, I used the hc1 to shoot tandems and set it in dv recording, but then, why use a bigger an expensier camera, if I can use a smaller and cheaper one, with almost the same quality? Im getting to the point with my tired neck and body, to trying to reduce the weight and size as much as I can... we skydivers try to ignore how bad we treat our bodies, specially during openings and hard landings, but years and thousand of jumps just remind me it every day...
  16. Hi Phil, I been shooting HDV since 2005, and because of all what you pointed I only use it for good stuff, thinking in the future, but for everyday jumps, watching it in a normal TV at the DZ, downloading to dvd, I much prefer my PC1000, the slowenes of hdv is really a pain for me! but for sure its make me use all my cams in 16:9, from the very first jump with the HC1 I fell in love with the widescreen, is like I been blind of one eye, and now uncover the other... Here, when we are busy we also have a Super Otter load to download the tandem jump in a dvd (edited in camara of course), burn the pictures in a cd with a stand alone recorder, AND pack!!! Blue ones, Gustavo
  17. O.K, then is confirmed the problem is in the optical stabilization system. I will get the 5 after selling the hc7, I still need hdv for the good stuff. Thanks, Gustavo
  18. Hello All, I updated http://www.guscabana.com with the Thai pics, Enjoy
  19. I tried: - Taped the connections port. Less, but still shakes. - Record in DV, same. - Shutter speed up to 1/6000, same. - Wrap all the camera in plastic foil, and with the condom over, same. - Mount a PC1000, less quality image, but not shake at all, finally a solution !
  20. good! some hope... Ill tape the ports and see whats happen... Didnt try the HC5, only I read they have electronic steady shot, not optical like the hc7, or thats what Sony says in their site...
  21. thats set up in the profile I used only for the world records, its a pain, big and heavy: D2x + D70 + HC1. When Im talking about turbulences, is normally in a sit, when your head, the helmet and cameras moves, and the picture is moving around too, but shouldn't be blurred. Again, using the HC1 for more than a year I dont have any problems, change it to HC7 and they start... thats mean something is wrong.
  22. I sent you a 6 sec trv900 ehh.. Hc7 video, in a 41 mb mail, I dont know if it will make it to you... Im using, or I used to use it, in a flat top, with a condom, exact same set up with my previous hc1, same suit, same flying, different results... Maybe a box will help, but I dont want to use a box. Took me some jumps to see the shake, because its only happen in some turbulence positions...
  23. only when is turbulence around the helmet, mainly in some angles in a sit/back flying, and high speed exits. Turned the steady shot off, less, but still shakes. How I prep and send you the file?, I have IMovieHD here. Thanks
  24. Hola Mate Gary, I didnt notice until I sit fly, top shots has smoth air over the cam normally... Here we just got some winter time... See you
  25. From the Technical specifications pages at http://www.sony.co.uk/ about the SteadyShot, Image Stabilisation: HC5: Super (electronic) HC7: Super (Optical)
