New UK Skydiver - need some help and advice

I finished my AFF in Spain after waiting thru 2 dismal months to get 2 levels done in the UK (my bad, i chose the wrong time of year to do a tandem and catch the skydiving bug!). When i got back to England i had no problems getting converted to an English A licence. People i know who have learnt in Spain, US etc since April this year have also had no probs converting their licences.I am also aware that some people have had problems upon their return to the UK but i think if everything was plain sailing for everybody, all the time, something was wrong ---------------------------------------- I AM THE ATMOSPHERE HOOLIGAN -

I dont know about your mum but i dragged mine up to watch my level one. She lives on her own since my dad died so i included her in my day. At first she was so scared but after seeing all the tandems/cameramen land safely she told me she felt re-assured and they even worked the magic and almost got her to do a tandem. Foolishly i said she shouldnt do it then i realised the error of my way..... she hadn't said that to me. We talked about it. I apologised for being an idiot and saying no to her. i said she should do it but after careful deliberation agreed that after having re-constructive surgery for breast cancer it may not be a wise thing. So, for me and my experience it boils down to love, fear and control. My mum used to be a major control freak but she saw what i was like in my youth, she knows i will not respond well to control now. She sometimes doesnt like it when she see's videos of me and the gang racing thru skies at what looks like a million miles per hour BUT she sees what i get from it and without getting into other deeper stuff here she knows that the pay-off from skydiving is more than worth the risk. All parents deal with things differently, some care too much.....are so scared they try to control their kids, some dont care at all and some care but embrace their kids decisions. I know that the times my mum seems to get a little scared and voice her fear to me usually means that she has other stuff going on in her life which is causing her to react. Keep jumping. Keep your chin up through the emotional pressure. You're not on your own with that sort of situation. -
hey B. check this sh#t....yesterday....i was harping on about taking my rig onto an easyjet plane...i am not joking when the lass asked me if easyjet allowed you to jump from their planes.... thats whuffo-tastic that is! "this is your captain speaking...there will be a short delay before landing whilst oval-zipper and his mates exit via the rear door...please remain seated with your seat belts fastened....have a safe jump boys" ---------------------------------------- I AM THE ATMOSPHERE HOOLIGAN

Hey, i had a quick sneak about the forums before posting this and couldnt find the exact answer i was looking for, sorry if i have missed it. When getting a consistently low vertical speed from my PTrack can this then be equated to an increase in lift and therefore speed on a horizontal plane?. This question is being asked in relation to tracking dives where the readings are averaging about 90mph. I was shown a very different position recently and decided to do a couple of solos where i achieved the lowest speeds ever (and also highest tracking speeds due to steepness as i played with the position) So....does a low reading from a Ptrack equate to a greater forward speed IN a track dive position due to the lift and forward speed generated by this type of flight?? I understand that a Ptrack reading can be a little ambiguous and the best answer is jumps with others to get a relative idea (the lowest speed jumps were solos in this different position)and i haven't been able to get out to jump in the last 2 weeks )but all i'd like to know is the reading a fairly solid indication of how well i am generating lift and forward speed. Cheers ---------------------------------------- I AM THE ATMOSPHERE HOOLIGAN

Try Narcotics Anonymous, they at least can give you some on hand advice and support. If you are not comfortable with their style then i am sure they can offer other avenues of support. In the UK they can be found in the Yellow pages, i don't know what you have over there. Turkey is turkey dude.......there is no escaping it...we all gotta pay the price sooner or later for taking that stuff, be it due to an accident or through your own choice. There are some things that 'help' but you are gonna have to be prepared to deal with some shit. Trust me...its worth it.

"Even more delightful to me will be the deafening silence from The English Tabloid Press if they defeat England." Word to that, i am looking forward to a quiet football free life soon.....i hate all these drunken vermin satisfying their tribal instincts for violence played out on the field. "The alternative is too horrible to contemplate - right up there with the inflatable Spitfires some of the England fans have been waving about." Someone has been seen selling old army hats with 'I hate Germany' emblazoned on the side in my town.....now just you try and tell me these are rational people? ---------------------------------------- I AM THE ATMOSPHERE HOOLIGAN

Ah yes....i haven't read all the other posts but i am slightly conversant with the idea that the 25th of Dec is actually the celebration of the birth of the sun god etc etc.... heres my $50 dollars on religion. Religion, no matter which one is purely humankind's interpretation of nothing more than it's desire to express that which it doesn't understand. The interpretations are so widely varied that there is something for almost everyone. I for one have no set faith but i do believe in some greater power. This is how i view things. I am not a Christian.....and i am not really proud OR not proud of it....i just kinda got my own ideas and not really bothered by it all........remember what happens when people squabble about religion?? One half of my family is English protestant and the other half is Irish Catholic....i am sure i dont have to remind you lot. ---------------------------------------- I AM THE ATMOSPHERE HOOLIGAN
