    Baffin 2007 Hitlist

Rick Sylvester jumped Mount Asgaard in 1976 for "The spy who loved me". The film crew was waiting many many days in Pang for a weather clearance. Two french expeditions went to Thor first in 2002 and then this year. http://12secondes.free.fr/P-Baffin.htm

Hello Lee, What were the precise dates you were in Sam Ford? It seems there was not that much snow on the slopes of PSSpire. Regards Marc

AMAZING landscapes!! thanks for sharing that !!
  7. Tom, I apologize for not respecting the forum rules. The fact is this guy simply doesn't care about anybody else but his own person. I would be surprise he really scores 935 jumps with this level of maturity. For littlestranger, i don't try to remain anonymous. And you? Marc Audap
  8. Whether you find it offending or not, this guy is nothing else that what I wrote. We don't really care here in Paris about his "own state". He came to OUR country, in OUR city, ruining OUR efforts, just to flatter HIS ego; He could at least excuse him self. But instead, he just declares not giving a f.ck about what will happen after his show... There's a big group of jumpers here who won't leave this behaviour unpunished.
  9. Yeah ! That's exactly what I wrote earlier : you're a jerk Johan. Someone gives you money so you'll go and jump, burning sites without paying attention to the locals. You're the dumbest assh.le I have ever read on this forum. Marc
  10. ...please...come to Paris and jump it again... make my day. You are just a bunch of badass with no respect for your BASE brothers. Marc
  11. Nick, Sorry to read your post and your complete misunderstanding. Are you grounded and frustrated or what? Did I ever wrote that I was denying my roots? Come on!! You're smarter than that. I BASE jump. Paralpinisme is just an association. The founders had to find a name that would not refer to extrem sports category. And my intention was not to debate about cliff jumping vs urban jumps; I have many building jumps including jumps in Hong Kong from 2IFC a little while before Tomb Raider. I enjoyed a lot the "John Vincent" kind of jump showed on MTV. I'll keep on jumping of buildings but stealthy. I'm blaming the belgian guy for ruining the efforts of others who are trying hard to maintain BASE jumping tolerated in the mountains. Would you appreciate that I come to your local object that you carefully jump, and send the video to the media showing stickers and flag all over it? Jeb Corliss did jump the Eiffel Tower (in a special way) but didn't send the video to the media if I remember well. But I would call him a jerk if he would have behaved the way the belgian did. Marc
  12. Hello Nick, I just read your comments about the negativ reaction some of us had about this Eiffel Tower jump. I might share some of your points. But despite your "matrix -neo- like " declaration about BASE jumping nowadays, BASE is not at all sheltered from being banned even in countries like France. Situation becomes even harder over here for cliff jumping. Some ecologist association are fighting hard to prevent us from jumping of cliffs. An association has just been founded to defend ourself www.paralpinisme.com . It's not an easy task and we even have to get in touch with "prefet" ( equivalent to your state governor) to defend our cause. These prefet don't really give a sh.t about us. We try hard to bring a positiv light to BASE jump. This fragile balance is threatened by this kind of media jump. I did my self this jump twice (I even got caught once). BUT I didn't brag about it to the media. Another point is that, some locals jump this object from time to time, discretly. It becomes harder and harder to sneak into the object. With such publicity, things will be almost impossible. And guess what? Each time Eiffel Tower jumps are on TV, it's the belgian crew. It's an obvious lack of respect for the locals and the entire BASE community. Marc (who is really pissed off)
  13. Johan, YOU'RE A JERK You should keep your videos for you instead of spraying it all over the media. And you should remove the stickers and flag from the tower. WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? go back in your tree Marc

    Himalayas

Some of the most noticeable spots are Baghirati III and Trango massif in the Himalayas. Trango tower had been jump in early 90's by Nic Feteris and Glen Singelman and more recently (sept 2005) by a french guide Sam Beaugey who did spend 19 days on the sheer vertical wall before wing-suit jumping the Pulpit. Baghirati III has seen a french expedition (Jerome and Christophe Blanc-Gras and Lionel Deborde) last year. They went on top and rappealed down to the presumed exit point but unfortunatly the first 200m are not overhang enough.
  15. Alain Prieur (french stuntman) did a motorcycle jump in some canyon in south east of France with a parachute in 1984. Jacques Malnuit (aka Zoo) did a similar stunt for a Bond production in 1996 (Goldeneye).

    John Agnos Discussion

I think you're all tough down here. This John guy might behave like a jerk. Obviously I wouldn't brag after such a rescue mission. But this could occur to anybody. I don't know him but the 911 phone call don't make me laugh at all. he's scared and did he do something to deserve what happends to him? You're all tough.

    Vintage BASE stories

Hello Nick ! It’s a very nice idea these vintage BASE stories. I have one or two stories my self. They’re not that as old as yours but back in 1997 I just did my first jump of a bridge in central France. It was one year and a half I was hanging with two french young BASE jumpers. July 1997 they brought me for my first BASE jump. It was two lonnnng years I was looking for this jump. The landing under this bridge is pretty tricky as we had to land on some kind of small island covered by wet stones. This place was known for broken ankles. The first jump went perfectly ok. I did the best landing ever. What a feeling. I was very proud of my landing as I didn’t have much skydives (nearly 70). Then the wind started to pick up so we drove for some other bridges. The same day I did my second BASE jump of another bridge (110m). It was crossed by an expressway so we decided to be equipped in the car and that one of us would drive the two others. I would jump again. We drove onto the bridge stopped the car , went down the car and over the fence. My heart was beating like never. It was my second jump and it was illegal. My friend went first. It was my turn. Once again everything went fine. The next days, we reached some canyon in south of France. I could do my first two cliff jumps: hand held slider down. It was beautiful. Then I was back to Paris. It was time for me to jump from one of the few buildings where the tourists can access the roof. My friend mentor François would go with me for this new thrill. This building is not extremely high (115 m). It looks like a bridge as it is an arch. So I felt confident with this jump. But it needed a good preparation as we would jump daylight right in front of the security. The building offers a long open air observatory deck for the tourists. Ther’s some kind of anti-suicidal fence 2.30 m high. It wouldn’t be any problem to go over it. The main problem would be more the security guy who’s walking along the fence. François, his girlfriend (she was there to carry down our big backpacks) and I went to the rest rooms to geared up. The leg strap under the pans. We were dressed up like tourists (sneakers jean’s and T-shirts). But even like this, we had been asked to open our backpacks at the entrance of the building. Fortunatly we had put some dirty towels over our rig. The guy asked us what was inside. We said we had some camping gear. I felt some sweat falling down my fronthead. So here we are, geared up, ready to jump. We’re still inside the building looking through some wide glass windows at the observatory deck and the security guy. We were waiting he would walk to the very right of the terrace. Then we would run to the opposite side, climb over the fence and jump one by one. A last check and we start to walk fast not to bring attention on us. Once outside we run over the few stairs focusing on the fence; Then I hear some loud voice screaming: “There! we have to parachutist! I stop them” We started to run like hell now. François gets first to the fence. He’s smaller than me but more agile. He goes over the fence without problem. I wait he’s over to start the climb. As I climb I feel the security guy getting closer. I’m now on the “good” side of the fence but the guy grabs my shirt. I can’t step back as the edge is 1 meter behind me. He insults my friend and I. We keep cool and François take his pc and jump. I get rid of the hand of the vigil and get ready for the jump. I look down and see François making his final approach. It’s time for me. I jump smoothly, wait for 2 seconds and release my hand held pc. A 90° opening. I grab my toggles and ride my canopy in the proper bearing. I should then have remembered one of my skydiving instructor’s advice: don’t look at the zone you don’t want to land on. Right under and ahead of me stood a public phone. If I wanted it I couldn’t have done it: I did land on the roof of the phone booth. Some pedestrian applauded as they thought I did it on purpose. I jumped down and started to run. But I immediately felt some pain in my ankle. Some motobiker passing by proposed me a ride as he noticed I did some naughty thing with my canopy. I declined. I feared that my canopy would entangled in his wheels. Then I could hear the security guys exiting the building. They saw me and started to run. I was caught. I did spend the afternoon at the police station with my broken ankle. They were rather nice with me, even asking me how to start skydiving. Back at home, fearing some drama with my parents I lied to them saying I broke my foot on a construction I was visiting for my architecture school. They bought it. So I spent all summer long on cruches. Nobody was really aware of what happened to me except my brothers and sisters. 1 month later I was at my cousin wedding in a remote place in south of France. I still had my cruches so I couldn’t really move. I sat all day long talking with the photographer of the wedding someone I never met before. Looking at my plaster he asked how this occurred. I replied I had some skydiving accident. I couldn’t believe his next words. He told me he never did skydive but he saw one month earlier some guy jumping of building in Paris and landing right on top of the phone booth were he was giving some phone call. Saying the world is small is useless. Marc http://12secondes.free.fr
  18. Same for me.The 16mm footage was amazing. A scary jump but I learned a few things watching this jump.
  19. First I think Norway probably has the nicest and best terminal walls on the planet.I fyou're looking for loooong delays you should go there. Baffin island has probably the highest and sheerest wall. I did 27 sec there with no track no suit and a high pull. The Queen Maud region in Antartica has some very high cliffs but weather conditions are very rough. Just to be more accurate about Trango Tower in Pakistan. The Nameless tower is huge! But Nic Feteris and Glenn Singelman didn't jump Nameless tower. They did a 9-10 sec delay maximum(may be even less). I think what they did is pretty cool but the cliff they jumped (wich is in the Trango massiv)what not that big and the delay was not that long. edit for site names ~TA
  20. I don't understand why you need to make some advertising for your beautiful country. I've been there 2 years ago and didn't meet anybody. Not one single jumper!! It was one of my best BASE trip. Me and my 3 friends were on our own. No one to tell us what to do or not to do. Why do you want your place to be crowded? More people= more risks of accidents. I'm really astonished by your post. I even thought your post was a joke in the beginning. edit for site name ~TA
