  1. Various people to me: Why don't you accept PMs? This is why. 2 or 3 times getting that shit, and I just shut it down. p.s. - I believe the "rule" that you don't publicly re-post PMs has exceptions. In my book, if someone uses a forum's PMs to threaten or personally harass, all bets are off, and they can be outed. PMs ain't momma's apron to hide behind.
  2. Why didn't she take responsibility for her own situation? I would start with not fucking psychopaths with murderous tendencies. I thought you were all about personal responsibility? She made the wrong decision in her personal life. Dude, you can't always tell which guy is a psychopath right off the bat. Some hide it well. Some don't show their tendencies until much later. It's a crapshoot sometimes. But those aren't the goalposts here. In this case, it was her ex-boyfriend, against whom she'd taken out a restraining order, presumably because she was very well aware he was a psychopath.
  3. Voluntary altruism is laudable, but frequently inadequate to effect the collective good. Government cannot compel voluntary altruism. But it can coerce collective cooperation. Viva la revolucion.
  4. I also find it curious that they fuzzed out the picture so we can't read what the student wrote. 1. But the "article" invokes "Al Sharpton" (of course!), the Negro-baiters' Godwin-du-jour. So, you know, it has automatic value. 2 Didja notice? - It's a January 2014 "article", about a November 2013 "incident", and yet here it is in a thread created in June 2015. Why? Well, presumably it just came to his notice; but more to the point - opportunistic Negro-bashing is always timely. And then when called on it, they accuse others of playing the race card.
  5. Dude, the corpses are still leaking blood. That couldn't wait for another 5 minutes?
  6. You're just miffed that "style" isn't an option.
  7. Pfft. Colonial legatees whose anuses are still leaking from a century of British imperialist ass-raping. Big deal.
  8. 65% of the world-wide native English speakers live in the US. Except for the silly ex-pats, they all use an S.
  9. Ha! Two can play at that game! Presidential Vice-presidential Family values Woman Climate scientist who knows more than the guy who has a Master's in Chemistry Indian (No, seriously!)
  10. What a great description of the defence defense industry, and the car industry and the financial industry. Can't spell defense without that (s) there buddy. In the US, "defense" is best spelled "wasteful military boondoggle used mainly for offense to benefit the military-industrial complex". So you can see why the abbreviated version is easier.
  11. The man out weighed her by 100lbs, was a little bit crazy, and had a knife. What would you consider a "practical alternative?" Semantics aside on whether I chose the best phrase (maybe I didn't?), I've not had military or tactical training, so I'll defer to professional experts in the field such as TriGirl and Winsor. Their posts seem instructive.
  12. Which is a Class 3 misdemeanor in Colorado. Now we're no longer in traffic court.
  13. Oh, well, there's always the Water and the Southwest thread.
  14. Even more love! 10 most un-Christian church signs
  15. I notice that at least 2 of those in here pointedly refusing to jump on the waiting time bandwagon, and who emphasize practical alternatives, have advanced tactical military training and experience (one of whom is currently active duty). I realize there are some vets on the other side, but it's certainly still worth considering.
  16. Houston has plenty. Maybe they'll send some. pity there isn't an infrastructure already in place to do just that. I guess aircraft carrier battle groups are more important than that.
  17. Why should we waste calls down a rabbit hole when we can appeal to the community via public discourse? Power to the people.
  18. It's things like this that breeds violence against the haves by the have-nots. And there are plenty of guns in that state, too. Maybe the ranchers might have some perspective about their piggishness if a few of them have.... accidents.
  19. Why don't you call Sherry and tell her that your self, instead of parroting what everyone else has said in this silly thread. Rich screwed up. Have none of us ever screwed up? I've seen some shanagans, some real FUS. (At this point and time in this thread, and don't get me wrong I could care less one way or the other) You guys are just "Beating a dead horse" simple as that. Let it go.
  20. I can't believe that the protagonist is still chair of the S&T committee.
  21. You know, I was thinking the same thing: if only he'd told Mr. Yoder: "You know, sir, you're right, it was a stupid mistake, I have no excuse and I sincerely apologize" (and his loudmouth wife had stfu), we might not be having this conversation. To your similar point above: I can think of at least twice when I've avoided a ticket outright simply by being very respectful and apologetic to the cop who stopped me, and at least once when the cop only gave me a non-moving violation (so less fine and no points) because I behaved properly with him.
  22. I would say "Yes" to a degree. Certainly to the person(s) who were singled out. "Maybe" to the children depending on the affect it had. "No" to the grandchildren. Just my opinion - yours may vary. I'd say that would be reasonable with Caucasian ethnic groups. Witness the early 20th Century discrimination in the US against Irish, Italians and Jews, most of which was either overcome or became effectively irrelevant after 2 or 3 generations. Why so quickly? - because those groups are all Caucasian. The Asians have largely overcome it, too; for although they're "not quite white", they're "whitish" (ya know?); and what the hell, these days that's good enough. But it's clearly taking longer than 3 generations with black people. First, because societal discrimination against black people seems to have lasted longer against them because of non-Caucasian appearance. (An Italian-American walking down the street will simply be seen as white, while a black person.. well, you see my point.) Second, because the social, economic and educational underclass comprised of impoverished African Americans is so entrenched in American society that it's going to take some more generations to overcome it.
