  1. Mick, Alcohol and a little elbow grease took the sticky residue off completely. Thanks again.
  2. I imagine it was to ID the rig for some reason. There is nothing wrong with the static line or D-bag. I can't imagine anyone jumping a static line held together with duct tape! Then again............
  3. Hard to tell from your picture but it appears to be one of the MT canopies from the MC-4 freefall system. Is the data panel legible enough to read?
  4. All y'all are rookies! 1st jump....Fort Benning - November 1960 1st Skydive....June 15th, 1962
  5. Thanks, Mick! I'll give that a try.
  6. I have a conventional military static line that had a piece of duct tape wrapped around it. After removing the tape, there is a residue of "stickum" left on the static line. What can I use to safely remove the gooey stuff? Goo-Gone? Alcohol? Any solvents?
  7. Why not scrounge up an older B12 or other sport-type rig from back in the day and use that? If you want to jump a vintage canopy - do it the correct way - in vintage gear. It's simpler than futzing around trying to modify everything to work together!
  8. Re Jim Arender.....does anyone still do Style?
  9. I know nothing about that. Present plans call for the Pioneers of Sport Parachuting reunion to be in Orange in 2011....but even that's not certain. HW Everyone gonna jump rounds????? That's not such a bad idea...a few round loads at least for ol' times sake! The first time I landed in that big old sand bowl I thought I was in heaven! Is it still there?
  10. from a quick google search......... USS Finback (SS-230), a Gato-class submarine was the first SHIP of the United States Navy to be named for the finback, the common whale of the Atlantic coast of the United States. USN submarines are generally considered to be boats.
  11. Thanks for the link but there is nothing there for the Mk IV.
  12. Does anyone have any information on the "Pampoen" Saviac MkIV Main Parachute as used by the South African Defense Force? Size, rate of descent, performance, etc.
  13. I pack 50 or so round mains and reserves per year for my jump team...mostly MC-1's, SET-10's and T10 reserves.
  14. I'm old school and cautious...I flat pack everything!
  15. The Sunshine Factory store at Z-Hills had Pro-Tecs and others last time I was there....2 months ago.
  16. Howard, It looks just like my PI logbook from 1962 - there is nothing new under the sun - what goes around, comes around.
  17. I agree with Bill 100% - you will note my wingloading is much less than 1:1 - especially under my MC-4 - now there's a BIG canopy for me! None of those handkerchief-sized canopies for me.
  18. [ WHAT SIZE SHOULD I BUY!? I weigh 185# out the door - I jump a Spectre 210 main and a PD 235 reserve. I have 2,696 jumps.........does that give you a clue?
  19. ... "So even if I can land a 150 canopy, do I have to worry about the swift plus because of its crappyness even if flown without any swoops or radical turns?" SIGH.......
  20. A photo of my Pig Rig showing the mid-60's RSL.
  21. ETA: Also currently I'm using a fishing tackle box to store tools and spare parts, but it is just a little too small (i.e. knee plate). Any suggestions on something else to use. (I can't justify spending $200 on the bag that paragear sells) I use a Husky-brand tool bag. It has plenty of interior volume as well as handy zippered compartments and open pockets as well as a small parts snap-lid container included. It is strong, durable and has enough room for all my rigging gear and gadgets with room left for more. Highly recommended.
  22. A question for our military riggers: Will an MC-1 container mate up with the old T-10 "Dial O' Death" harness?
