1.333 Wingloading with 160 jumps....
woodpecker replied to markovwgti's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
not directed to mr2mk1g...i'm just too lazy to click the first thread blah blah blah This is the first time I've ever seen this on dz.com and WOW, truly amazing. We actually had a "total" scenerio from start to finish and all were able to watch everything unfold. It was nice to see the full circle of events and that no one said "I told you so" or any number of other "should have listed" comments when the circle completed. Instead support was given. Way to go all involved, thanks for looking out for us low jumpers making stupid decisions. Keep up the good work (regardless of how hard the punch to the gut may be) I hope other newbies/low jumpers read this thread in its entirety and take a lot from it. Marko, lessons learned and stay safe...pride heals faster than your body! Would you fly to Norway if someone paid half your airfare?
woodpecker replied to bigway's topic in The Bonfire
Last time I went for 20 pounds round trip. Total was 45 pounds after taxes and what not. Depending on what days you want to fly out/back you can get a price in that range. Thread has another paying 50 roundtrip in August. Give me some dates and I can shoot you some prices. Dont rub it in.... and the solution to said problem is just move to the UK. Your jump numbers will plumet. And to think I moved from TX to here! SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

Your looking at this the wrong way. As long as your jumping at least ONCE a year your doing more jumps than the majority of the people who do post on here. SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

Are beginning flockers welcome? (I have 8 WS jumps so far) If so, count me in....American flying in from the UK so put me down for representing whom ever SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

I might bring the BASE rig weather permitting. Might want to see if there are any launch sites for the paraglider????? We could knock the dust off that new one. Last time I 'smuggled' something back I didnt even get a fucking thank you...of course bigway seems more respectable than that. Let me know if your going and I'll start looking at tickets. The joys of being light. I had the same issue but I'm 140lbs and when I started I had to start my approaches lower than other people. The audible will not help you with this since (please correct if I'm wrong) they dont beep while under canopy, the air pressure isnt changing fast enough, so do what the rest of us did and just look at your alti to judge your altitude and start letting your eyes/brain take it all in so the memory starts to sink in, dont start relying on an audible....for anything at this stage in the game. Just my 0.2 take it for what its worth. SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

1.333 Wingloading with 160 jumps....
woodpecker replied to markovwgti's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Maybe so, but its still a funny phrase. So I have a question for the experienced crowd now: Would a 1.3 WL (jump numbers dont matter but for you tight asses who wont let that go we will say 1000 jumps) be considered more performance from obtaining it with a smaller wing, or more weight on a larger wing? ie. 1.3WL on a 210 or 1.3WL on a 135 or smaller? And for those anal retentive types who will just preach every wing is different, lets say a Sabre II. I'll go with you Tony. I loved norway and could spend a weekend there. Let me know your schedule...beutiful place...beutiful people. Of course this would depend on ticket price but its usually not that expensive. Billy SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on? -

Damn I miss albuquerque. Thats where I learned how to Mt. Bike and a few other activities. Let me make a few calls to see if Josh and Steve are still stationed there. I'll PM you with numbers if they are. If not, stop by the local crag or Mt Bike shop and they will hook you up. The shops are usually closed on Sundays to ride so getting in with them is simple and you get a few hook ups at the shop as well. I'll be in touch and enjoy the sandias. I so miss taking the ski lift to the top, and dont forget taos and santa fe either. SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

majick/myth again? Please explain? Yes the slider controls the openings 'as well' but I didnt buy a smaller slider to speed up my openings...I just stopped rolling the nose and viola! First time I've ever hear this described as a myth. Not flaming, just curious. SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

Long Read! This is put here in gear and rigging because it deals directly with the subject...just be patient while reading and it will all make sense. Every once in awhile there is a post from a 'low' jumper asking about a rediculous WL or high perfomance canopy to start out with. Though most of the time it is a troll and the replies are funny, lets all not forget that this might actually be a real low timer who doesnt know any better, so I say YES keep the interesting replies but lets also make sure somewhere in the flames there is the truth because this jumper might actually not know any different. Here is a similar situation I was in from my beginning days of jumping. I just got my A license (whoa 25 whole jumps) and didnt have a home DZ. I rushed through my 25 to get my A because I was TDY and leaving in a few weeks. Then I had no DZ back at my home station or even relatively close. Basically, I knew next to nothing about gear sizing, blah blah blah. I knew how to fall out of an aircraft and save myself. Welcome the new jumper. Some time went by (years) and I missed the sky so I started looking at buying my own gear so I could get to a DZ and start jumping again. This led me to gear sales since the majority of new jumpers start there...yes I know its wrong blah blah blah, but honestly the majority of new jumpers with the cash start looking at gear to buy. After shopping around awhile a gear shop was going to give me a great deal on the full set up with my choice of three canopies. After explaining my experince, my currencty, and what my goals of jumping were I was given a choice of three 150's (put me under a 1:1 WL). Now for the kicker, two of the three were HP Elipticle canopies. I knew nothing of the brands and even less on fully elipticle canopies. I simply had the word of a gear specialist (salesperson) looking to off load some used gear that was collecting dust. Luckily for me, I asked similar questions to what we see on these forums on the gear and was pointed in the right direction. My point to this is that very rarely, one of these people arent TROLLS, but simply a newbie who is either afraid or unable to ask these questions in person at such a young skydiving age so lets remember to yes, get our flames out there (for the trolls and laughs) but to make sure the correct information makes it whether PM or public. Sorry for the long read and in true DZ.com tradition....flame away! Greenies move if you think this is in the incorrect place. I promise to not start another thread on why my post was moved or why are the greenies picking on me. anyone ever coached by babylon or other great FFers?
woodpecker replied to woodpecker's topic in Freeflying
That seems to be the consensius so I'm in. I have my sit down, just need to work on jumping with others while in it. I'll let everyone know how it turns out. Thanks again to all who have responded. To Kat and those who have PM'd me...thanks for the helpfull inpute. It seems that pretty much the entire team seems to be not only world class FFlers but good coaches as well. Virgin-Burner: thanks for the reply and reitterating exacly what my question was. SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on? -
Wouldnt having a total mal (nothing out) and being in a full stand position speed him up past terminal and guarantee death. I know my little ass in a stand is in the 170 range from my average belly to earth 98mph. Please correct if I'm wrong. I use the above mentioned sites and they are great. I've been a downhill and urban assault rider for 6-7 years now. Where do you live? I might be able to hook you up with some riders. SONIC WOODY #146 There is a fine line between cockiness and confidence -- which side of the line are you on?

woodpecker replied to woodpecker's topic in Freeflying
This might seem like a stupid question, but I'm heading back out to Emp and my focus is to get my sit to a point where I can finally start doing group jumps and actually being part of the group. I have the stability, heading, etc...I've just not spent the time/money for proper coaching and now its time to hone the skills (or develop them ) My question specifically is: Is getting coaching from a worlds best good/bad? Yes they are coaches, and some of the best FFers around, but is there a such thing as "too good"? I just dont want to waste my money to have the privelage of just jumping with a world champion but not getting the best coaching I can out of it.
