  1. I can relate to the questions you are asking, in fact I asked similar ones not to long ago. I can’t speak for every one but I can share my rational for what I have done thus far and I don’t regret it. Coaching, If you like teaching or find yourself doing it anyways, take the coach course!!! You will learn a ton about your own skills and how you should approach a brand new student. I have found coaching to be very rewarding by watching students excel. Be good a good coach and continue to evolve, don’t rely on the class by itself talk to other instructors and start filling your toolbox with styles that you can convert to your own. The deal I made myself is if coaching students failed to be fun or feel like a chore I would give it up. If you end up liking coaching go for the next rating. For me it was. Tandems, As a brand new TI I can tell you this, tandems kick ass! Being a TI is very dynamic, no one student is the same and you will learn a ton about yourself and your limits as well as having a front row seat for someone experiencing skydiving for the first time. Similar to coaching I made a deal with myself, if I stop having fun or the job starts feeling like a job then I will quit. A tandem passenger is totally dependent on you and you must be prepared to take the huge responsibility that entails. Additionally you want your passenger to have a great experience with their new adventure. If you are a burnt out stick in mud and are just trying to make some cash then I would question your ability to give the passenger the experience they deserve. I have zero regret of becoming a TI and I absolutely love it!! Good luck on your endeavors!!! Work hard and it will pay off. Rosie Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
  2. Seeing how I was/am one of those cocky students I can relate. However I have been pretty fortunate to have students that want to learn and fly safe. Currently my biggest frustration is students that don't listen and go from instructor to instructor trying to get an answer to do unwise/unsafe flying for their skill level. For the cocky students I think building the relationship of trust with them from the start is key. Take them aside and tell them showing off or taking the extra risk might have worked for them for that jump but will eventualy eat their ass. Importantly point out some things they kick ass at and tell them you want to work on the shit that is going to get them hurt or even worst someone else hurt or killed. The line I like to use is "you arn't the only one making a jump, every time you do something unsafe you put every one jumping at risk. So don't be a selfish prick and get someone else hurt!" If that fails I go to my instructor and ask for advice or ask him to help out. Cocky students kick ass, just ask them. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!

  12. I only have 24 so the list is pretty small.. (Best Jump 5) With a complete hotty on the front side that decided to do a pike out the door on my last check out dive. That will stay in my mind every time I exit an aicraft. (Coolest Jump 6) Taking my instructor that taught me how to fly 3 years ago. I am not sure who was flying who on that jump, although I did learn if student is larger than boss make boss take them. (Funny Jump 10) Our Camera guy went front side and screamed like a little girl the entire canopy ride. (Scary jump 11) First real student. Jump went great!! 19. As a brand new TI (still on probation) it seems like I am learning a million little things on every jump. I absolutely love it!! I have some great people watching over me and sharing encouragement/coaching which has been very helpful in filling my tandem toolbox. However, I find it difficult containing my excitement after each tandem, I don’t want to scare the shit of my next passenger while geeking out on my new tandem experiences. I talk to myself in my head a lot!! Not only is it a new experience for them but it is for me too. Can you relate?? TI (in my head)- Plane ride- Down to business, safety first, remember your training run EP’s through your head a million times, check gear, check gear, check gear, check gear, ok you are going to rub holes through things if you keep checking it. Calm student, make ride fun. In the door- Students nervous, I’m nervous, make sure this passenger doesn’t screw the exit. Grrrrrrr….. Ready, Set, Arch… Free fall- Yep student didn’t arch oh well were stable throw the drogue. Drogue check, Handle check, student check, alti check, DZ check, camera geek, repeat. Wow this seems like a long freefall. What if we had a mal right now, hmmmmm lets pull a little high just to be on the safe side. Opening- Open baby, Open baby, Open baby, YES!! Don’t scream so loud to blow students eardrums out. Under Canopy- Traffic Check, Canopy check, Student check, DZ check. Try to contain excitement to prevent scaring the shit out of student. Teach student how to land, practice flairs, (if light), man I am glad you aren’t a fat fuck. Approach to landing- All right Jason you are responsible for two don’t fuck up. Dam this canopy is huge. Locate camera guy, thank god he is waving his arms. Land on camera guy, stop moving camera guy, my bad, keep moving camera guy. Tell student to raise knees. FLAIR. Allow shaggers to take toggles, really it’s ok you can let them take your toggles you are on the ground. After landing- HOLY SHIT THAT WAS FUCKING FANTASTIC!!! Chill Jason what are you a newbie or something. Tell student what a great job they did. Do camera thing. Grabbing gear- This canopy is freaking huge, thank god for packers. Try to remain calm to not scare next student. Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
  20. Doc Please don’t take this the wrong way. Cindy isn’t out for the season she just isn’t flying until her wing is healed. If Cindy doesn’t come out to the DZ and kick it with us I am going to hold you responsible and kick you in the nuts. That being said good vibes sent out to the both of you and hopes for a speedy recovery for Cindy. If there is absolutely anything you need please do not hesitate to ask. Rosie Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!
